TSG Super Bowl Habits Survey: the Monday After, Betting, and More

With Super Bowl 59 just over a week away, we decided to take the temperature of viewers, fans, and bettors alike to get their thoughts on the big game. We asked 304 people a set of 28 questions associated with the Super Bowl to see how they experience it.

Do they bet on the game? What do they do on the Monday after the Super Bowl? Find the answers and more curious data below!

How Do You Watch the Super Bowl?

In this era of cord-cutting, it should come as no surprise that more people are watching the Super Bowl via streaming. 54.6% of our responses claimed they would be streaming Super Bowl 59, to 40.8% who said they would be watching on cable.

But it is surprising that 60% of boomers (age 61 and over) will stream it, coming in second to Gen Z (18-28) at 63%. Gen X (45-60) are carrying the flag for cable as 64% of that demographic will watch it the old-school way!

Have You Ever Placed a Bet on the Super Bowl?

A staggering 95.1% of our responses said they’ve placed a bet on the Super Bowl before, including 100% of the boomers surveyed! The younger our survey skewed, the percentage of people who have made a Super Bowl bet declines, at 98% of Gen Xers, 96% of Millennials (29-44), and 93% of Gen Z.

100% of those who were unemployed and job seeking have placed bets on the Super Bowl, so hopefully they have a big day on February 9!

Where Do You Typically Place Your Bets for the Super Bowl?

Online sportsbooks are the option of choice for this multiple-choice question. 93.6% of responses go to the internet to make their wagers, while 28.6% also said they make informal bets with family and friends. 16.6% participate in office pools, 12.5% head to physical sportsbooks/casinos, and 6.4% use offshore sportsbooks.

Interestingly, 38% of female responses make bets with friends and family, compared to 24% of male responses.

If you’re into the top offshore sportsbooks, we have the best options you’ll find online!

What Types of Super Bowl Bets Have You Placed in the Past?

Moneyline bets are the easiest wagers to make, so it’s not a shock that it’s the most popular type of Super Bowl bet people have made in the past at 69.9%. 59.5% also responded with over/under bets (totals), 58.4% have bet on the point spread in the past, and 53.7% have made prop bets. Finally, 48% of made parlay bets, which is when you bet two or more options and combine them into a single bet.

Boomers answered at an 80% rate for point-spread and parlay bets, while 78% of Gen Zers lead the way for moneyline bets. 57% of Millennials have made prop bets, which extends to options like commercials and the halftime show. But whichever wager you plan to make, you should have a sound sports betting strategy, so you can make informed decisions!

Do You Live Bet the Super Bowl?

Action at live betting sites is split almost right down the middle as 49% of our responses said they had made a live bet on the Super Bowl, while 51% said they had not. 55% of females have placed a live bet on the Super Bowl, to 45% of males. The youngest of the surveyors, Gen Z, lead the way with 57% of live betting action, while the oldest, the Boomers, bring up the rear at 40%.

In terms of ethnicity, 72% of responses from black people say they have or will live bet the Super Bowl, and the next-largest group is Asian people at 46%, to white people at 44%.

On the Monday After the Super Bowl, What Do You Do?

The Monday after the Super Bowl should be a national holiday. But 57.9% of responses claim that they do go to work the next day. 24.3% of responses say they work from home, which seems low. 9.2% of people take a vacation day in advance, while 3.3% just call in sick, which is risky. 5.3% claim to not be working right now, so the Monday after the Super Bowl is a silver lining for them.

Surprisingly, it’s not Boomers (60%) leading the way for going to work, but Millennials at 63%! 31% of Gen Zers work from home, edging out Gen X at 30%. 20% of Boomers actually take a vacation day, to 15% for Gen X.
