- Independent presidential hopeful Robert Kennedy Jr. announced that Aaron Rodgers is on his shortlist of vice president candidates.
- According to the latest betting odds, Rodgers is the odds-on favorite to become Kennedy Jr.’s running mate.
- Kennedy has the fifth-best odds to win the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election.
Could Aaron Rodgers, 40, put away his cleats and enter the public office? According to Robert Kennedy Jr., the four-time NFL MVP quarterback may be heading to the White House. Currently, at BetOnline, Rodgers (-110) is the favorite to run as Kennedy’s vice president candidate.
In short, Rodgers has an implied probability of 52.4% to be picked as Kennedy’s running mate. Rodgers and Kennedy have reportedly talked regularly over the past month. The quarterback, who signed a three-year contract worth $150.8 million with the New York Jets last year, has not immediately commented.
In addition to Rodgers, Kennedy announced that former professional wrestler and Minnesota governor, Jesse Ventura, as one of his top picks for vice president. Currently, Ventura (+110) has the second-best odds behind Rodgers. Per BetOnline, it appears that those are the only two realistic candidates.
Following Rodgers and Ventura’s odds, there is a considerable discrepancy to Kennedy’s next potential running mate. At +1400, former Democratic nominee hopeful Marianne Williamson has the third-shortest odds to be announced as Kennedy’s running mate.
Rodgers Has Supported RFK Jr. in the Past
Although Kennedy’s comments took the NFL and political world by storm, Rodgers has publicly supported the candidate in the past. Last March, the NFL star met with Kennedy in Santa Monica, California.
Rodgers and Kennedy’s relationship has blossomed due to their shared views on vaccines. After the duo repeatedly promoting COVID-19 vaccine skepticism, the two have generated a close bond.
In 2022, Kennedy compared Jewish people attempting to escape Nazi Germany to unvaccinated individuals. The politician added that vaccine mandates are a “coup d’etat to democracy” and “even in Nazi Germany, you could hide.”
In August 2022, Kennedy’s anti-vaccine group Children’s Health Defense was suspended by Facebook and Instagram for sharing their views on social media.
“Facebook here is acting as a surrogate for the federal government’s crusade to silence all criticism of draconian government politics,” Kennedy said.
Rodgers has been a well-known vaccine skeptic, as well. The 40-year-old quarterback most recently challenged Pfizer spokesperson and Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, to a debate surrounding the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines.
“Mr. Pfizer said he didn’t think he would be in a vax war with me. This ain’t a war, homie. This is just conversation.” Rodgers claimed. “But if you want to have some sort of duel, debate, have me on the podcast, come on the show, let us have a conversation.”
Rather than the vaccine, Rodgers has said that he’s taken the drug ivermectin to help combat COVID-19.
With Kennedy and Rodgers on the same page regarding vaccines, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that the politician and the 19-year NFL veteran are interested in joining forces.
Rodgers is entering the second year of his contract with the Jets. He is coming off Achilles surgery after suffering the injury in Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season.
RFK Jr. Longshot Odds to Win Presidency
Despite the recent hype over Rodgers possibly becoming his vice president candidate, the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election odds do not favor Kennedy winning. Running as an independent, he currently has +2500 odds to be elected as the next President of the United States.
According to the odds, at BetOnline, Michelle Obama (+1600) has a better chance of becoming president than Kennedy. It’s worth noting that Obama has declined to run for president and publicly supported Joe Biden’s campaign recently.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (+2500), who hasn’t announced a presidential bid either, is tied with Kennedy with the fourth-shortest odds to capture the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election.
At +2500, Kennedy has an implied probability of just 3.8% to upset Biden and Donald Trump. Currently, former President Trump has the most likely odds to win at -120.
While Kennedy faces an incredibly tough uphill battle, his running mate announcement is sure to gain attention. The nephew of John F. Kennedy plans to reveal his choice within the next two weeks.
