Bronny James The Odds Basketball Background

  • UCLA is the odds-on- favorites to land Bronny James in recruitment at even money odds.
  • Oregon has the second-best odds to recruit LeBron James’ son at +125 odds.
  • Bronny is an upcoming senior at Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles, California, and is the 43rd overall recruit in the class of 2023.

The UCLA Bruins have emerged as the odds-on favorite to land Bronny James in recruitment at +100 odds.

LeBron James’ eldest son is a consensus 4-star prospect according to ESPN, 247Sports, Rivals, and On3. 247Sports’ Composite currently has Bronny as the 12th ranked player in California, the no. 7 guard in the nation, and the 43rd overall recruit in the class of 2023.

So far, Bronny hasn’t received too many offers from schools but given his stature, or that of his father, he has been linked to many schools.

Bronny Currently Being Recruited by UCLA?

According to ESPN’s Paul Biancardi, UCLA is one of the programs pursuing the son of the Lakers superstar. The Bruins have a history of recruiting celebrity high school players. It can be recalled UCLA got Shaquille O’Neal’s son Shareef to commit in 2018, Before him, the program also got Lonzo’s brother LiAngelo to commit although he ended up turning pro instead.

Bronny’s dad LBJ recently agreed to a two-year extension to remain with the Los Angeles Lakers and UCLA is obviously the nearest they could be to each other. LeBron’s son is also entering his senior season at Sierra Canyon and with UCLA just some 20 miles away from the Chatsworth, California school, it’s also the most ‘local’ option for Bronny.

UCLA and head coach Mike Cronin are deep in recruitment battles for the likes of Isaiah Collier, Ron Holland, Andrej Stojakovic, Cody Williams, Brandon Williams, Devin Williams, Michael Nwoko, and others. Collier and Elmarko Jackson are the only uncommitted guards who have offers from UCLA. James could provide the Bruins with depth to a backcourt that could lose Bronny’s former Sierra Canyon teammate Amari Bailey to the NBA Draft plus Tyger Campbell and David Singleton to graduation.

Oregon Ducks Emerge as Favorites to Land Bronny?

NBA recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw of On3 recently said that the Oregon Ducks have emerged as the favorite to land LBJ’s son. Shaw put the chances of Bronny committing to the Ducks at 50% which is close to the implied probability of 44.4% for his +125 odds to join Oregon at the BetOnline App.

It’s no surprise why the Ducks are high on the list. There are too many ties linking James’ family to Oregon. First off, LeBron has a lifetime deal with Nike and Oregon is the flagship school for the Nike brand. King James and Nike have also done business together with SpringHill Company.

Bronny is also friends with 5-star recruit Mookie Cook who recently re-committed to Oregon. Cook and Bronny were teammates for the North Coast Blue Chips team in middle school. Cook also played the young LeBron James in a SpringHill-produced movie entitled Shooting Stars.

Other Schools Linked to Bronny James

Aside from UCLA and Oregon, there are a handful of schools that are linked to Bronny James, including many blue-blooded programs. The University of North Carolina Tar Heels are third in the BetOnline odds board at +400 while the USC Trojans are fourth at +600 odds. Michigan State is next at +750 odds.

Duke at +800 is the last school with odds shorter than +1000 and it was long considered to be a likely landing spot for Bronny with LeBron having a long relationship with Coach K. who recently retired. Next are Kentucky, Kansas, and Ohio State at +1000, +1200, and +1400 odds, respectively.

Michigan is an intriguing option at +1800 with former Wolverine and NBA star Jalen Rose recently making a pitch for Bronny. Current head coach Juwan Howard once played for the Miami Heat in the NBA and was with LeBron James when the team won back-to-back NBA titles in 2012 and 2013.
