- Conan O’Brien will have the honors of hosting the 2025 Oscars for Sunday’s ceremony.
The Academy Awards are the biggest show in Hollywood, and the 97th edition will go off on Sunday, March 2, 2025. The best in film will be honored throughout the 3-to-4-hour ceremony on ABC.
Conan O’Brien, the great comedian, writer, and former late-night talk show host will be the next in line of great Oscar hosts.
O’Brien to Host Oscars for First Time, But He’s No Stranger to Hosting Duties
It was announced in November 2024 that O’Brien would take over the mantle as Oscars host.
O’Brien has hosted other awards shows, such as the 54th Emmy Awards in 2002, and the 58th Emmys in 2006. He also hosted the 2014 MTV Movie Awards, and the 5th NFL Honors in 2016. This will be his first time in the spotlight as the host of the Academy Awards.
O’Brien was on Jimmy Kimmel Live on February 25 to promote his appearance. But more importantly, O’Brien sought advice from Kimmel, who hosted the ceremony in 2017 and 2018, and again in 2023 and 2024.
But O’Brien won’t be nervous. He hosted Late Night with Conan O’Brien from 1993 to 2009, The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien from 2009 to 2010, and then Conan from 2010 to 2021.
There is an excellent chance that O’Brien has met, or interviewed, everyone he’ll come in contact with on Sunday nights. There aren’t many Oscars betting odds with props involving O’Brien out there, but it would be a fun market to bet on if you can find it.
How Will Conan O’Brien Fare at the Oscars?
O’Brien is one of the funniest people in America and is going to do just fine. Politics is obviously a polarizing subject in the United States, but O’Brien said he’ll address it with “humor”. O’Brien also hosted the White House Correspondents Dinner in 2013, so he’s familiar with meshing politics with humor.
He is also going to the right people for advice, such as Kimmel and Billy Crystal, who is second on the Oscars hosting list with nine appearances. In first place is the great Bob Hope, who hosted a staggering 19 ceremonies!
You shouldn’t expect anything out of the ordinary from O’Brien, who also has to be cognizant of the time. One of the major complaints about the Oscars is that it’s a lengthy show, sometimes hitting the four-hour mark. As the host, O’Brien is one of the people tasked with keeping the show on track.
