- Josh Allen became the first quarterback in NFL history to have a passing, receiving, and rushing touchdown in the same game as Buffalo routed San Francisco 35-10.
- The Bills also clinched the AFC East division crown with five weeks left in the regular season.
- Christian McCaffrey of the 49ers injured his knee in the game, yet another blow to a plagued season for the star running back.
We got a real winter football game on Sunday Night Football in Week 14 in the NFL. Buffalo hosted San Francisco, and as you would expect, the West Coast team had a tough night in upstate New York.
The Bills walloped the 49ers 35-10, and it was a historic night for Josh Allen as his team clinched the AFC East title. For the 49ers, not only did they lose their game, but they probably lost Christian McCaffrey for the season.
Allen Hits TD Trifecta, Scores Passing, Receiving, and Rushing Touchdowns in Same Game
The Bills jumped out to a 21-3 halftime lead on the 49ers, and they cruised to a 25-point romp over the 49ers on a snowy night in Buffalo. But the signature play came with 5:58 left in the third quarter, as Allen passed to Amari Cooper, who then lateraled back to Allen for a seven-yard touchdown run.
Allen became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw a touchdown, run for a score, and catch a TD in the same game. The Bills’ pivot is the seventh player all-time to do it, but the first at his position.
It came at an excellent time for Allen, who is the favorite, according to the NFL MVP odds. Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson was fine in the Ravens’ 24-19 loss to Philadelphia, and he’ll likely tumble down the board. The Eagles’ Saquon Barkley could leapfrog Jackson after a fantastic fourth-quarter performance against the Ravens. But after this game, Allen has a firm control of the MVP race.
The Bills should also see their Super Bowl 59 odds move as they go to 10-2, and they’ve clinched the AFC East division title. But they still have a lot to play for. The Bills are one game behind 11-1 Kansas City in the AFC, and AFC conference odds at some sportsbooks have the two teams tied as the favorites. The Bills beat the Chiefs 30-21 in Week 11, so they have the tiebreaker.
McCaffrey Has PCL injury In His Knee, Probably Gone for Season
It was a tough night for the 49ers, who never came to grips with the snowy weather in Buffalo. Their worst moment came with 11:23 remaining in the second quarter, as Christian McCaffrey injured his right knee.
It is being reported that McCaffrey injured the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in his right knee. The star running back could be out for the rest of the season, which is probably for the best. McCaffrey missed the first eight games of the campaign with Achilles tendinitis and an ailing left calf.
It has just been that kind of season for the 49ers, who are now 5-7 and in last place in the NFC West, a division they were supposed to dominate. McCaffrey has been out for most of the season, Brandon Aiyuk was lost in Week 7, while Deebo Samuel, Brock Purdy, and George Kittle have all missed time. The 49ers aren’t out of it yet, but this might be a good time to punt on the season, and get healthy to bounce back in 2025.
