Liverpool Re-Sign Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk to New Contracts

  • Liverpool is on the cusp of winning the English Premier League for the 20th time.
  • They made a big move towards their future by re-signing Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk to two-year deals.
  • There is still no word on the status of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is rumored to be leaving Liverpool for Real Madrid in the summer.

Liverpool has one hand on their 20th Premier League trophy as they’re running away with the league. The Reds have an 11-point lead over Arsenal with seven games to go, boasting a record of 22 wins, seven draws, and two losses.

Three important members of their core are out of contract in the summer. Liverpool sorted two of those players out with new deals by re-signing Mohamed Salah and captain Virgil van Dijk. However, the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold, while rumored to be decided, is still up in the air.

Salah, van Dijk Stay at Anfield for Two More Years

Liverpool fans got massive news on Friday as the club announced they had re-signed Salah to a deal keeping him at Anfield until June 2027.

Salah, who turns 33 in June, is having his best year at Liverpool since joining from Roma in June 2017. The Egyptian winger leads the Premier League in goals with 27 and in assists with 17.

This contract saga has gone on for a few months, with both sides making public comments on the status of the negotiations. It even appeared that Salah was on his way out, and there were even Mo Salah next team odds.

However, Salah will stay at Liverpool for the next two years, at least. The attacker is still in excellent physical shape and looks like he should keep up this high level throughout his new contract.

Then, insider Fabrizio Romano reported that a new two-year deal for captain Virgil van Dijk is all but done.

The Dutch international is still one of the best defenders in the world, even though he turns 34 in July. The Reds’ captain is a force at the back, and along with Salah and midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, has played all 31 Premier League games for Liverpool this season.

Salah and van Dijk might feel like they have unfinished business at Anfield. Liverpool should win the league, and have been at the 2025 EPL title odds all season. But they lost to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16 after leading all teams in points in the new league phase.

The Reds were also upset 1-0 by Plymouth Argyle in the fourth round of the FA Cup, and they lost the League Cup final 2-1 to Newcastle. While it is a successful first season for manager Arne Slot, he now has his most dependable leaders back for another run.

What About Alexander-Arnold?

However, nothing has been said about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future. The right back is also out of contract this summer, and it is heavily rumored that he is on his way to Real Madrid.

This move has been rumored for months now, so it won’t be a surprise when it happens, likely after the season is done. But it’s a big loss for Liverpool as Alexander-Arnold, who turns 27 in October, is arguably the best offensive fullback in the world. He does have issues with his defending, but Alexander-Arnold’s offensive ability more than makes up for it.

But there is still a chance that “TAA” stays at Liverpool. He is from Liverpool, and has formed the core of this team with Salah and van Dijk for almost the last decade. Surely, Liverpool will do everything possible to try to keep Alexander-Arnold, even though his mind might already be made up.
