Raiders to Trade Adams to Jets for Conditional Draft Pick

  • The New York Jets had a ground-shaking week, firing head coach Robert Saleh, replacing him with interim head coach and defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich.
  • The Jets also stripped offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett of calling plays, but the Jets still lost 23-20 at home to Buffalo on Monday night.
  • Another big move awaits as it is reported the Jets will finalize a trade for disgruntled Las Vegas receiver Davante Adams, for a conditional third-round draft pick.

It has been a wild week for the New York Jets, who are 2-4 and have now lost three in a row after falling to Buffalo on Monday night. After firing their head coach and demoting their offensive coordinator, the Jets are now making a big swing as various outlets are reporting a massive trade for Davante Adams.

The Las Vegas Raiders are sending the star receiver Adams to the Jets for a conditional third-round pick, which could turn into a second-rounder.

Adams Reunites with Rodgers as Jets’ Stagnant Offense Looks for Spark

After losing 23-17 to Minnesota in London, the Jets fired Robert Saleh and promoted defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich to head coach. They also took away play-calling duties from offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, a confidante of quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

The Jets looked better at times against the Bills, but eventually fell 23-20 in Monday Night Football action. The team took 11 penalties for 110 yards, was 1-of-4 in the red zone, and struggled for 4-of-12 on third downs.

Rodgers was 23-of-35 for 294 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Breece Hall (18 carries for 113 yards), Garrett Wilson (eight catches for 107 yards, one touchdown), and Allen Lazard (six catches for 114 yards, one touchdown) also had big games.

But the Jets’ front office brought in more help as they traded for Davante Adams, who requested a trade out of Las Vegas a few weeks ago. The Jets are sending a conditional third-round pick for Adams, which could go up to a second-round pick, depending on certain factors.

Adams has been frustrated with the quarterback play in Las Vegas, and now reunites with Rodgers. The two played together for eight seasons in Green Bay, during which Adams was Rodgers’ #1 target for most of the time.

Rodgers won three of his four NFL MVP awards while Adams was on the team. Meanwhile, the receiver made five of his six Pro Bowls with Rodgers as his quarterback, and two of his three All-Pro teams. Adams also led the league in receiving touchdowns with 18 in 2020 (in just 14 games) with Rodgers, who threw a career-high 48 touchdowns that year.

It is also being reported that the Raiders don’t have to pay any of Adams’ salary going forward, which was a sticking point with other teams. Adams’ contract states that he’ll make $11.2 million this season, and the Raiders have already paid some of that. In 2025 and 2026, Adams will make $35.6 million per year.

How Much Does This Help the Jets?

NFL betting sites are sorting out if this changes the Jets’ Super Bowl odds, but it can’t hurt to pick up Adams. He had 103 catches for 1,144 yards and eight touchdowns last season, and that was with Aidan O’Connell and Jimmy Garoppolo as his starting quarterbacks.

Adams has 18 catches for 209 yards and a score this season, before suffering a hamstring injury in Week 4. That issue could clear up quickly with this trade to the Jets.

Rodgers and Adams aren’t the young players they once were, but they clearly have a great rapport together. Lazard was also a teammate of Rodgers and Adams in Green Bay between 2018 and 2021. This should, in theory, open up the field for Wilson, who has had back-to-back 100-yard games.

The Jets have been the story of the NFL this season, and it’s clear to everyone involved that they’re in win-now mode. Let’s see if Davante Adams can help them turn the season around.
