According to Tom Brady, he is not opposed to coming out of retirement for another return to the football field. However, betting sites are not convinced that Brady is going to make a comeback.
Per BetUS, Brady has +1000 odds of playing in the NFL again. Put differently, the seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback has an implied probability of returning to the NFL of just 9.1%.
These are stronger odds than when Brady claimed when he retired for a second time in February 2023. Back then, the odds were 0% when Brady claimed to officially retire from the NFL for good.
“Good morning, guys. I’ll get to the point right away. I’m retiring. For good.”
Brady’s recent comments indicate that he may not be done “for good”. The 46-year-old made the announcement following his 23rd season in the NFL. He made nine Super Bowl appearances and won six titles in 18 seasons with the New England Patriots.
Before calling it a career, for a second time, Brady won his seventh Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021. Brady’s seven Super Bowls are more than any franchise in the league. The Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots have each won six Super Bowl titles.
Brady Names Two Teams He Would Play For
Brady indicated that he wouldn’t un-retire for just any team. Speaking on the DeepCut with VicBlends podcast, Brady said he would consider playing for three teams.
“I’m not opposed to it…To come in for a little bit, like (Michael Jordan) coming back? I don’t know if they’d let me, but I wouldn’t be opposed to it,” Brady said. “Patriots. Could be Raiders, could be you never know.”
Podcast host Vic Blends mentioned his hometown team, the San Francisco 49ers as an option, as well.
According to BetUS, the Las Vegas Raiders (+125) have the best odds of landing Brady. At +125, Brady has an implied chance of 44.4% to play for the Raiders in a comeback.
The New England Patriots (+300) have the next shortest odds, with an implied probability of 25%. The Patriots are an interesting choice, as Brady had a messy breakup after leaving Foxborough for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
However, Brady’s qualms were with head coach Bill Belichick and not owner Bob Kraft in New England. Now that Belichick has left Foxborough, Brady might be having second thoughts about playing for the franchise where he won six Super Bowls.
Potential NFL Ownership Complicates Comeback
Brady is in the process of becoming a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. NFL rules prohibit individuals with an equity stake or employees from being part of the team roster.
Brady acknowledges that being an NFL owner would make playing in the league again difficult.
“I don’t know if they’re going to let me if I become an owner of an NFL team. I don’t know, I’m always going to be in good shape, always going to be able to throw the ball.”
Although Brady made these comments casually while getting his haircut, it’s hard to rule him out completely. If Brady joined an NFL team for the upcoming season, it would likely only be in an emergency capacity due to injuries toward the end of the season. Do not expect to see him at an NFL training camp this summer.
