It has been a disappointing season for the Miami Dolphins, who finished 8-9 and out of the playoffs for the first time since 2021. The Dolphins had high hopes coming into the campaign, but injuries and inconsistent play derailed them.
They could go into the 2025-26 NFL season with their #1 wide receiver, as Tyreek Hill implied in a postgame interview that he could be gone in the offseason.
Hill Sits Out Fourth Quarter in Season Finale, Leading to Exit Claim
It has been a tough week for Miami sports, as Heat star Jimmy Butler requested a trade on January 3. Hill opened up in a postgame interview after the Dolphins lost 32-20 to the New York Jets. The Dolphins had been eliminated anyway as Denver was on their way to a 38-0 blowout of Kansas City, who had locked up the top seed in the AFC and rested their starters. Hill said:
"I don't even know, bruh. This is my first time I haven't been in the playoffs. For me, I just have to do what's best for me and my family — if that's here or wherever the case may be. I'm about to open up that door for myself . . . I'm out, bruh. It was great playing here but at the end of the day, I have to do what's best for my career. I'm too much of a competitor to just be out there."
That’s a pretty direct statement from Hill, who had 81 catches for 959 yards and six touchdowns in 17 games this season. Those were, by far, his worst numbers since coming to Miami in 2022. Hill played through some injuries, and the Dolphins also lost quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to a concussion and other injuries for six games.
But it was strange that Hill made himself “unavailable” for the fourth quarter, according to Miami head coach Mike McDaniel, who said:
“I was informed that he was unavailable right before a drive. I was not informed that it wasn't a new injury."
McDaniel didn’t say anything bad about Hill, saying he wouldn’t respond to “secondhand” comments, and that he wouldn’t make an emotional statement, which it seems Hill did. Hill did post a message to his X account.
Where Could Tyreek Hill End Up?
You can find odds for Jimmy Butler’s next team, and there will surely be odds at NFL betting sites regarding Hill’s next team very soon. There will be a market for Hill, who has two years left on his contract after restructuring it last season. But he’ll only be 31 as of March 1, 2025, and last year, Hill had a career year. He racked up 1,799 yards on 119 catches with 13 touchdowns for the Dolphins, and he’s a major part of their offense.
There will be many teams in the mix for Hill if the Dolphins do decide to trade him. Any team with cap space is a contender, such as Green Bay or Washington. Atlanta could also get in on the action if they release quarterback Kirk Cousins, who was benched for Michael Penix Jr. Of course, there is always the chance that Hill returns to the Dolphins. But rest assured, if he leaves Miami, Hill will find a spot somewhere in the NFL.
