There is evening racing under the lights. If you want to bet twilight racing, there is an opportunity at Mountaineer Park in West Virginia. TheSportsGeek also has picks earlier in the day at Louisiana Downs.
For more horse racing picks, check out our Louisiana Downs. Mountaineer Park has eight races worth $118,900 on this card. Head below for our best Mountaineer Park picks on August 30, 2022.
Race 3
Race 3 is a $21,200 event covering 7 furlongs on the turf. Vintage Kitten and Escape Velocity should get involved in this assignment.
Vintage Kitten is 4 for 34 and has been involved in most finishes since November. In his latest performance, Vintage Kitten beat Seeking Refuge by 1 ½ lengths for an $18,800 prize.
That was well done after finishing 4th for a $24,000 purse on June 27. A trip at $21,200 shouldn’t bother Vintage Kitten that much.
Escape Velocity is 18 for 51 and finished 1st, 4th, 1st, 2nd in his previous three outings. He is fresh off a sharp look for a $23,800 purse by 9 ½ lengths.
This was two races after Escape Velocity beat Giles by 10 ½ lengths in a blowout for $21,200. Escape Velocity finished 4th on July 17 for a $28,600 purse.
Right back down in class, he found success again. In another assignment in this same range, expect Escape Velocity to be the best.
Race 4
Race 4 is an $8,300 event covering a mile on the dirt. It’s likely that Big Falcon Rocket and Smooth Papa have a strong presence in the fourth.
Big Falcon Rocket is 4 for 31 and finished 6th, 4th, 3rd in his previous three starts. In his most recent performance, Big Falcon Rocket was 6th in a $9,200 race on August 4. He had finished 4th on June 26 for $14,200 before that start.
A slight drop to $8,300 could be what Big Falcon Rocket needs to regain his form. Smooth Papa is 3 for 22 and 9th, 2nd, 4th in his previous three outings.
Two starts back, Smooth Papa placed 2nd behind Notacatbutacard by 5 ¾ lengths for $12,000. Well done against a tough field. In his latest start, he finished 9th for a $12,000 prize.
Up to a mile, Smooth Papa should appreciate this race better. A notable drop in grade to $8,300 certainly helps his cause as well.
Race 5
Race 5 is likely going to be a race between Wink and a Nod and Awesome Ox. Awesome Ox has been involved recently and is likely to give another good account on Tuesday.
The gelding has finished 6th, 1st, 2nd, 2nd in his previous four outings. In his latest performance, he finished 6th in this class as a 7/1 horse on August 1.
Despite the poor work, Awesome Ox won a couple of months earlier at 4/1 in June. If Awesome Ox puts that performance on the track tonight, he’s a serious contender to win.
Wink and a Nod has been running well recently. He’s 2nd, 1st, 2nd in his previous three outings. He won in this class easily two starts back, and then was competitive again most recently on August 16.
Wink and a Nod just missed at the wire against Cates Swoosh. I’m leaning with Wink and a Nod to get back into the winner’s circle.
