Super Bowl 2024-25 Betting Odds: Can the Chiefs Three-peat?

The updated Super Bowl 59 odds suggest that there is a new team to beat in the NFL! After being favored throughout the season, the Kansas City Chiefs are no longer the top favorite. The Detroit Lions have replaced the Chiefs with the shortest odds after a 12-1 start to the season.

Buffalo Bills+600
Baltimore Ravens+1000
Minnesota Vikings+1600
Pittsburgh Steelers+1800
Green Bay Packers+2000

Denver Broncos+4800
Seattle Seahawks+5000
Tampa Bay Buccaneers+5000
Los Angeles Rams+6000
Washington Commanders+6000
San Francisco 49ers+8000

Only two teams have been favored to win Super Bowl 59 at any point this season. The Kansas City Chiefs (+500) held this position through mid-November but were recently supplanted by the Detroit Lions (+260).

Currently, the Lions have an implied chance to win Super Bowl 59 of 27.8% at the best NFL betting sites. The Lions Super Bowl odds shortened from +325 to +260 after a Week 14 win over the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football.

Despite beating the Chargers this past week, bettors were not impressed by the Chiefs. Their odds depreciated from +450 to +500 after a winning effort at home! Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles (+500) witnessed a modest jump from +650 to +500 after surviving versus the Carolina Panthers.

Super Bowl LIX Key Info

Super Bowl LIX (59) will be held at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 9, 2025. That game will be broadcasted by FOX, meaning that Kevin Burkhardt and Tom Brady will be on the call for the NFL’s biggest game.

This is the second Super Bowl broadcast that FOX will have, with the last one coming in 2022 (Chiefs-Eagles). It’s also worth noting that Westwood One holds the radio rights for the Super Bowl broadcast.

Taylor Swift had the shortest odds of being named the Super Bowl halftime performer! However, Jay-Z and the NFL ultimately decided to bestow the halftime show on Kendrick Lamar.

2024-25 Super Bowl Favorites

If you’re going to bet on the Super Bowl 2024-2025 winner, you should start your analysis with the favorites. The following teams are the most likely champs next season.

Detroit Lions (+260)

For the first time since 1991, the Detroit Lions are a 12-win football team! This follows the first 11-game winning streak the Lions have ever achieved. Despite dealing with injuries, the Lions edged out NFC North foes, the Chicago Bears, 23-20, and the Green Bay Packers, 34-31.

They are doing this without several key defensive players, including leading edge rusher DE Aidan Hutchinson. Defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn has been a magician with this defense. Glenn has this unit prepared and ready to play at a high level every week.

The Lions will likely have to say goodbye to Glenn in the future as he accepts a head coaching role. However, they have to enjoy what he is doing with this banged-up defense.

Detroit is tied for second in the NFL, with 18 points against per game! If the Lions can get healthy in time for the playoffs, this team could be even better than they are right now.

Along with the defense, QB Jared Goff has the offense humming. He has passed for 3,265 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions on 72.4% completions.

There are multiple weapons for Goff to share the ball around to, and the results are adding up. They are second in the league in yards and first in points per game with 32.1!

The Lions are the most well-balanced team in the NFL heading into the late stages of the season. There are concerns with the health of their defense, but they are still the most complete team.

Kansas City Chiefs (+500)

The Kansas City Chiefs are winning games, but they aren’t making it easy on themselves. In their Week 12 showing, the Chiefs needed a late field to oust the lowly Carolina Panthers.

They came back with identical 19-17 wins over the Raiders and Chargers in the last two weeks! Nevertheless, the Chiefs are 12-1 and finding ways to win football games. Call it voodoo magic or what have you, but the champs keep doing the bare minimum to emerge victorious.

Additionally, the Chiefs narrowly defeated the Broncos, 16-14, and survived in a 30-24 OT win over the Buccaneers. Their lone loss this season was against the Buffalo Bills four weeks ago. All of this has happened since November, so we’re still waiting on a complete performance from Kansas City!

Currently, the Chiefs have a win margin of just +4.3 for 11th in the league. This is wild considering we’re talking about a one-loss squad and the AFC West champs. Through Week 14, the Chiefs’ offense is around the middle of the league, with 338.2 yards per game.

The defense is still a top 10 unit statistically, but they’ve shown some holes for opponents to exploit. Mahomes and the offense aren’t exactly clicking, so Andy Reid will need his defense to continue to carry the weight of this squad.

In the absence of Patrick Mahomes’ host of dangerous weapons, the Chiefs need the defense to be the best in the league. We haven’t seen that, though. The Chiefs have the second-best odds to win Super Bowl 59, but they look awfully vulnerable right now!

There isn’t any betting value in backing the Chiefs to win at +500. Perhaps the playoffs will get them interested, but it is going to be an uphill battle to win three straight Super Bowl titles.

Philadelphia Eagles (+500)

The Eagles are quietly up to 11-2 on the season following a close 22-6 win over the Carolina Panthers. It wasn’t the most impressive victory, but they avoided the letdown spot against a pesky Panthers team.

The win marked their ninth consecutive victory as Christmas approaches. Earlier this year, there were strong calls to have head coach Nick Sirianni fired. Now, Sirianni has the Eagles playing terrific football and tied for the second-best Super Bowl 59 odds!

On November 1, the Eagles had a +1400 price to win the Big Game, so they’ve seen a huge upswing. RB Saquon Barkley running behind an elite offensive line has helped spur the Eagles to the next level. Currently, in a three-way race with Allen and Lamar Jackson for MVP, Barkley has been unstoppable!

Barkley has 1,623 yards rushing on 6.1 yards per carry. He has scored 11 times on the ground, including five touchdowns over the last four weeks. Additionally, the former Penn State star has added 267 receiving yards and two touchdowns as a pass catcher.

It’s taken a lot of pressure off QB Jalen Hurts, who has thrown 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions on 68.3% completions.

The Eagles have racked up the seventh-most yards per game in the NFL. They were third previously but took a hit after a lackluster performance versus the Panthers. As long as Barkley remains healthy, it’s difficult to see this offense stalling. On the other side of the ball, the Eagles rank No. 1 in the NFL, allowing an impressive 284.2 yards against per game.

With the Lions and Eagles playing the best football in all the NFL, they appear to be on a collision course in the NFC Championship Game.

Buffalo Bills (+600)

The Bills moved down a spot from our previous NFL Super Bowl 59 odds update two weeks ago. A loss on the road to the Los Angeles Rams, 44-42, has resulted in a small dip from +500 to +600 for the Bills.

Prior to the loss, the Bills were off and running and on a path of destruction! The Bills were on a six-game winning streak coming off their bye week. They ousted the Chiefs before heading on the break and also had wins over the Colts, Miami Dolphins, and Seattle Seahawks before the big victory.

Despite the loss to the Rams, QB Josh Allen remains in the running for the NFL MVP award. He has passed for 3,033 yards, 23 touchdowns, and five interceptions on 64% completions.

Allen’s scrambling ability has been excellent, as expected, too. The 28-year-old California native has rushed for 416 yards and nine touchdowns on 5.2 yards per attempt.

The offense went sideways in losses to the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans, but is back on track. They have a fairly manageable schedule for the rest of the season. Aside from the Lions, the Bills should be favorites in every game.

This includes two games against the rebuilding New England Patriots, so look for the Bills to finish strong following the loss to the Rams. The bad loss to the Rams can partially be credited to looking ahead to a marquee showdown with the Lions.

The one question mark is whether the Bills’ defense has the talent to win the Super Bowl. They look great at times, but shaky in other games. Which version of the Bills’ defense will we see in the playoffs? In any event, I prefer the Bills over the Chiefs right now to represent the AFC at Super Bowl betting sites.

Best Sleepers for Super Bowl 59

There are always a handful of teams that rise up each season and become legitimate Super Bowl contenders. The Lions, Packers, and Texans certainly qualify from the 2023 season with all three teams reaching the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

Which teams could be potential Super Bowl sleepers in 2024-25? Here are three teams to watch going into the year. Let’s dive into our top longshot Super Bowl 59 predictions:

  1. Pittsburgh Steelers (+1800)

Despite a 24-19 loss to the Cleveland Browns three weeks ago, the Pittsburgh Steelers remained on my shortlist of longshot Super Bowl 59 best bets. I backed them at +2800 after the loss, so definitely thrilled with how events have transpired since then.

As expected, they bounced back in fine form with a 44-38 win over the Bengals and a revenge win over the Browns at home, 27-14. Everyone was on the Steelers’ bandwagon after winning five straight games.

However, many of the same people jumped right off the wagon as soon as the Steelers lost to the Browns in Cleveland. Since then, the Steelers have advanced to 10-3 and the AFC North lead.

I expected the Steelers to have issues with the Browns in that spot on the road, so that wasn’t a surprise. The Steelers are a good team with QB Russell Wilson at the controls.

The QB has tossed 1,784 yards, 12 touchdowns, and three interceptions. The offense was out of sync in Cleveland but is back on track and ready for the playoffs.

Note that the Steelers are in the top 5 with 18.3 points allowed per contest. Also, the defense is seventh, yielding 310.2 yards this season. At +1800 Super Bowl 59 odds, the Steelers are worth a small play in the unpredictable, wide-open AFC!

  2. Green Bay Packers (+2000)

The Packers aren’t the biggest longshot bet to win Super Bowl 59, but they should at least have shorter odds than +2000! At the current price, the Packers have an implied chance to win of 4.8%. The way I see it, the Packers are closer to an 8-10% chance, so there is certainly value.

Led by a dominant running game, the Packers are playing their best football of the season right now. They enter Week 15 at 9-4 amid the NFC North hunt with the Lions and Vikings.

I acknowledge the loss to the Lions, but also note that they went down to the wire on the road in a hostile environment against a very good team.

QB Jordan Love has had pressure relieved off his shoulders, with RB Josh Jacobs controlling the ground. The latter has rushed for 1,053 yards on 4.4 yards per carry and 11 touchdowns. This is a well-balanced squad that can beat any team in the league on a good day.

Super Bowl Winner Prediction

Finally, I feel obliged to share my Super Bowl 59 winner prediction. The obvious choice is to back the Chiefs, but their odds don’t hold the best value, and there’s a reason no team has managed to three-peat so far. And, as I mentioned, the Chiefs just look “off” this season. There is no value in their Super Bowl odds on sports betting sites in their current form.

I’m leaning towards the Detroit Lions at +260, as they’ve been the most consistent team in the league on both sides of the ball. The offense has enough firepower to play with the best teams, but they can also win the gritty, tough games. Head coach Dan Campbell is another NFL Coach of the Year candidate, and you’ll never hear him say his team is soft.

We backed the Lions to win Super Bowl 59 at +700 earlier this season but still feel there is value in the most complete team in the NFL!
