The 2022-2023 NHL trade deadline is set at 3 p.m. ET on Friday, March 3. Although there have already been some blockbuster deals, you can expect this hockey frenzy to continue throughout the week as there are more stars potentially on the move.
The top NHL betting sites have trade deadline prop bets available for many of the big names that could see new homes by the end of the week. We’ll examine these props, dissect the latest trade rumors, and make our predictions on the next potential NHL trade deadline deals.
2023 NHL Trade Deadline Odds
BetUS has a plethora of NHL trade deadline prop bets to wager on. Our article will focus on the following players possibly being traded by Friday:
- Erik Karlsson: Yes (+245), No (-375)
- Patrick Kane: Yes (-1000), No (+575)
- Jonathan Toews: Yes (+150), No (-200)
- Luke Schenn: Yes (-275), No (+225)
- Jakob Chychrun: Yes (-225), No (+175)
Before we make our predictions, let’s take a look at the most recent NHL trades.
The Latest NHL Trades
The NHL trade deadline is not until Friday, but there have already been a few notable transactions over the last week. On February 26, the most recent big name trade hit the wire as the San Jose Sharks traded Timo Meier to the New Jersey Devils1.
Meier was -500 at BetUS to be involved in a trade. Realistically, the NHL trade deadline odds for Meier should have been above -1000. There were clear indications leading up to this trade that Timo was leaving San Jose.
Along with Meier, Ryan O’Reilly, Vladimir Tarasenko, and Dmitry Orlov found new homes. The Leafs are hoping that O’Reilly puts Toronto over the hump in the Playoffs. Meanwhile, Tarasenko could be a missing link for the Rangers.
As far as Orlov is concerned, this was a move to give the NHL-leading Bruins more depth. Many would argue that the 45-8-5 Boston Bruins did not need additional help.

2023 NHL Trade Deadline Prop Bets
There could be one or two more blockbuster trades before the deadline on Friday. The key to having success with betting on NHL trade deadline prop bets is ignoring the fluff and finding the most credible trade deadline rumors. Fortunately for you, we have done the research as we handicap the following potential trades:
Will Erik Karlsson Be Traded Before The 2023 NHL Trade Deadline?
Trade | Odds |
---|---|
Yes | +245 |
No | -375 |
After unloading most of Timo Meier’s salary onto the New Jersey Devils, the Sharks are looking to move another expensive contract. The team has begrudgingly accepted that it’s time to rebuild.
For a roster that had plenty of talent, it just never came together in San Jose as the front office and fans had hoped. On Sunday, one of the Sharks’ top forwards was moved, and now the spotlight shifts to the blue line.
The hottest NHL trade deadline rumors for Karlsson have primarily centered around the Edmonton Oilers.
Karlsson is still an elite defenseman in the NHL. However, the Sharks’ asking price for Karlsson is believed to be unattractive to the Oilers and any other interested team. Karlsson’s contract is not desirable, either.
The 32-year-old is only on the fourth year of an eight-year $92 million contract3. Karlsson will be 36 years old by the end of this deal.
Who else but Erik Karlsson? 💁 pic.twitter.com/6hd122BuVS
— Sportsnet (@Sportsnet) February 26, 2023
NHL Trade Deadline Prediction
There is no denying that Karlsson still has talent. Only ten defensemen have recorded 73 or more points in a season over the last two decades4. The Swede has already recorded 77 points in 60 games5.
Talent aside, the Oilers are unlikely to get a deal done. If they do, it would most likely include Tyson Barrie, Warren Foegele, an additional player, and draft picks.
Keep in mind that Karlsson has a no-move clause in his contract. He does not have to accept a trade to Edmonton or any other team6.
Expect Karlsson to stay in San Jose. Ken Holland is unlikely to overpay. Additionally, there doesn’t appear to be another trade suitor for Karlsson.
The NHL trade deadline odds for this prop bet should be north of -1000, so the No option of -375 isn’t as bad as it looks at first glance.
Will Patrick Kane Be Traded Before The 2023 NHL Trade Deadline?
Trade | Odds |
---|---|
Yes | -1000 |
No | +575 |
There is growing anticipation of a trade being completed for Patrick Kane, which would mark the end of an era for Blackhawks hockey in Chicago. Kane’s 16-year career with the Blackhawks includes 446 goals, 779 assists, and 1,225 points7.
He’s also won three Stanley Cups and multiple individual awards during his time with the Blackhawks. Kane’s accolades include the Conn Smythe Trophy, the Calder Trophy, and the Hart Trophy8.
With the Blackhawks dead last in the Central Division, it’s time to allow the 34-year-old Buffalo native to move on to a contender. All indications are pointing to a deal being struck with the New York Rangers soon9.
Last night was the 1st time since 2004 (19 years) that the Blackhawks played a game without Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith, or Brent Seabrook.

NHL Trade Deadline Prediction
This is not the first time the Blackhawks have been interested in trading Kane. The Blackhawks have not been a real contender for over five years.
In the best interest of both sides, there appears to be serious steam behind the Blackhawks trading Kane to New York. Kane stated that he was not happy to hear about the Tarasenko deal to the Rangers10.
He wanted to be the one getting the phone call and packing up his bags for NYC. There is a very good chance that Tarasenko and Kane will ultimately be playing together soon.
As of February 27th, the Rangers and Blackhawks are reportedly deep into negotiations and almost at the finish line. Look for an announcement regarding Kane’s departure from Chicago to New York this week.
Will Jonathan Toews Be Traded Before The 2023 NHL Trade Deadline?
Trade | Odds |
---|---|
Yes | +150 |
No | -200 |
Kane has one foot out the door, but what about his career-long teammate Jonathan Toews who was drafted a year before Kane with the third-overall pick in 200611?
With Toews and Kane nearing the end of their contracts, it would make sense that they are both dealt at the NHL trade deadline in 2023.
Is there going to be a market for Toews right now, though? If he were healthy and contributing, you have to believe that Toews would be as attractive of an option as Kane.
However, Toews has not played a game since January 28, so the Blackhawks do not have any leverage in moving the talented star.
Reports out of Chicago are that Toews is dealing with symptoms of a lengthy COVID battle and chronic immune response syndrome12.
Toews stepped away from the team to focus on his health. This does not look like a player preparing to play playoff hockey.
If the Blackhawks find a new team for Toews, he will end his career in Chicago with 371 goals, 509 assists, and 880 points in 1,060 games13. Like Kane, Toews won three Stanley Cups during his tenure with the Blackhawks as both men played their entire careers in Chicago.

— Chicago Blackhawks (@NHLBlackhawks) February 19, 2023
NHL Trade Deadline Prediction
Toews is only -200 to not be traded at BetUS. The NHL trade deadline odds may change quickly, but the current line for this prop bet does not make sense.
Is this a case of oddsmakers leaving tremendous value on the board or a team about to make an unexpected move?
It’s possible that a team could buy low and take a chance on Toews for the playoffs. However, he is not even involved with hockey at the moment. And with that, Toews has essentially taken his name out of the trade bait pool.
Pro Hockey Rumors has reported that the Blackhawks do not intend on trading Toews at the 2023 NHL trade deadline14. Unless something unexpectedly changes this week, Toews will stay while Kane is off to New York.
Will Luke Schenn Be Traded Before The 2023 NHL Trade Deadline?
Trade | Odds |
---|---|
Yes | -275 |
No | +225 |
Two Canucks are rumored to be traded this week as Vancouver continues to make moves. Bo Horvat was the first to go as he was sent to the New York Islanders in the end of January15.
With Horvat gone, Brock Boeser and Luke Schenn could be heading to different cities too. Boeser is the more attractive player, but 33-year-old Luke Schenn can be a nice addition for teams looking to add quality depth on defense.
Schenn has scored 3 goals, 18 assists, and a +/- of 9 in 55 games played with the Canucks this season. The 2022-23 season is his second in Vancouver after playing 66 games last year16.
The NHL trade deadline odds at BetUS favor Schenn going to a new team this week. They are not overly convincing, but the Canucks are trying to work out a deal at the moment. One possible landing spot is where he began his career in the NHL.
Luke Schenn has been scratched for Tuesday’s game in Nashville and has now flown back to Vancouver. 👀 pic.twitter.com/s8K9Fpi5fe
— Sportsnet (@Sportsnet) February 21, 2023
NHL Trade Deadline Prediction
Schenn has been linked with the Maple Leafs. However, there are no indications that a trade is imminent with Toronto. The Canucks are currently making phone calls as they try to sell high on Luke.
The organization is not shy about their intentions right now. Schenn has been a healthy scratch recently, as the team avoids risking any injury in order to make a trade17.
Schenn is interested in going to a playoff contender and wants out of Vancouver as quickly as possible. The asking price shouldn’t be too much for an aging defenseman that is a depth piece. The Canucks will likely get what they can and move on from Schenn.
Will Jakob Chychrun Be Traded Before The 2023 NHL Trade Deadline?
Trade | Odds |
---|---|
Yes | -225 |
No | +175 |
Jakob Chychurn is having one of the best seasons in his seven-year career. That sounds like a long time in the league, but Chychrun is only 24 years old and is entering into his prime. This also means that his trade value is higher than its ever been before.
Arizona knows he’s on a good contract and value the talented player, but Chychurn requested a trade for a chance to win18.
A deal for Chychrun will come with a big haul of draft picks. It can be a win-win for everyone involved. However, this haul removes the Pittsburgh Penguins from the equation.
GM Ron Hextall is clear that he is not interested in moving draft picks for Chychrun19. He is not interested in parting ways with future first-round draft picks.
The Washington Capitals are an intriguing landing spot. They recently traded Dmitry Orlov, with an opening on the blue line for someone like Chychurn.
Jakob Chychrun absolutely wired home the game-tying goal. 🔝🧀 pic.twitter.com/De0oJCLHuI
— NHL (@NHL) February 7, 2023
NHL Trade Deadline Protection
The Coyotes have had Chychrun sitting out as a healthy scratch recently20. Like the other trade bait around the league, teams are benching players to avoid injuries and maintain a high trade value.
Is an announcement going to come this week? The Capitals make sense, but the Coyotes are asking for a lot. Some would argue too much.
GM Bill Armstrong will not be easy for opposing GMs to negotiate with. Teams have been interested in Chychrun for a year now, with nothing coming to fruition.
Despite the 24-year-old wanting a fresh start elsewhere, the Coyotes will not let an asset like him get away easily. There is too much value in his contract to let him walk.
Expect negotiations to go down to the wire on Friday. While most fans are anticipating a trade, Armstrong could hold out.
It will be close, but we are betting on a deal falling through later this week. Armstrong will be patient enough to wait for the offseason to strike a trade.
