The 2024-25 Heisman odds before the start of the season suggested a quarterback is the most likely winner of the prestigious NCAAF trophy. But Colorado Buffaloes’ star Travis Hunter has instead emerged as the clear favorite.

NCAAF Heisman Trophy Favorites for 2024-25

Two players have stood out the most this season in college football: Travis Hunter and Ashton Jeanty. Given their individual and team success, it is no surprise that Hunter and Jeanty lead the Heisman betting odds.

Travis Hunter (-1600)

Travis Hunter’s two-way ability has helped him become one of the most recognizable faces in college football. He opened the season as a +5000 longshot to win the Heisman, but BetUS now lists Hunter as the -1600 favorite for the award.

Hunter and the Buffaloes’ late stumble against Kansas cost them a chance at the Big 12 championship and a spot in the CFP. At 9-3, Colorado finished fourth in the conference and ended the regular season 20th in the AP Top 25.

As a non-quarterback, missing the 12-team playoff will not hurt Hunter’s chances of winning the Heisman. In fact, Hunter’s odds of winning the Heisman have shortened since the Buffaloes lost to the Jayhawks.

Ashton Jeanty (+750)

The distant second in the two-man race for the Heisman is Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty. He was briefly a favorite for the award this season but failed to live up to his record-breaking expectations. He is now listed at +750 odds to win the Heisman this season.

Jeanty and the Broncos were ranked 9th in the CFP rankings, but they won the Mountain West with their 21-7 victory over UNLV in the conference championship. As a conference champion, the Broncos will receive a bye in the 12-team playoff.

The bye will give Jeanty plenty of rest after his historic season. Leading Bose State to the playoffs would be an excellent argument for the Heisman in any season that did not include Travis Hunter. Despite his 2,497 rushing yards and 29 rushing scores, Jeanty will likely fall short of the Heisman in New York.

Best Longshot Heisman Odds for 2024-2025

Like many of the top non-positional awards across college and professional football, the Heisman has increasingly become a quarterback award. Unsurprisingly, the three other players in the top five Heisman odds at BetUS are all quarterbacks.

If anyone can surprise Hunter and Jeanty, it will be one of these three quarterbacks.

  1. Dillon Gabriel (+25000)

Miami (10-1) is a playoff contender thanks in large part to the play of quarterback Cam Ward. The talented quarterback is expected to be a top pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. His draft stock is high, but Ward’s Heisman odds have taken a hit in recent weeks.

Ward opened at +2000 and played his way to +300 odds to win the Heisman. However, Ward’s odds faded significantly after Miami’s loss to Georgia Tech. The Hurricanes remain playoff contenders, but Ward is only listed at +1400 odds to win the Heisman.

  2. Cam Ward (+50000)

Miami’s Cam Ward is another quarterback who has fallen behind in the race for the Heisman. Ward and the Hurricanes started 9-0 but lost two of their last three games to end the regular season. Their late-season struggles cost Miami a spot in the CFP and likely dashed Ward’s hopes of winning the Heisman.

Ward is currently listed at +50000 odds to win the Heisman, giving him just a 0.2% win probability. Despite the long odds, the QB is currently tied for the fourth-best chance to win the award.

  3. Shedeur Sanders (+50000)

The other quarterback listed at +50000 odds to win the Heisman this year is Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders. The son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, Shedeur is projected to be a top pick in the draft this April.

He is talented, but Shedeur is an unlikely Heisman candidate this year, especially because he plays alongside Travis Hunter. If there is a Heisman winner on Colorado’s roster, it is Hunter, not Sanders.

2024-2025 Heisman Trophy Prediction and Betting Pick

Travis Hunter has extended his lead in the current Heisman betting odds. The two-way star is a -1600 favorite in the latest odds and is the best bet to take home the prestigious award this season. Hunter has not locked up the trophy yet, though.

I believed Hunter was worth betting on when he opened at +5000 and he is still the most likely winner. However, at -1600, his Heisman odds do not offer much of a return. Luckily, the second-best candidate is also worthy of winning the Heisman.

Ashton Jeanty is a long shot at +750, but he has certainly done enough to earn Heisman consideration this season. If anyone can upset Hunter in this year’s Heisman race, it is Jeanty. A small wager on him is the sensible bet at this point of the season.
