NHL 2024-25 Worst Record Odds and Prediction: Which Team Will Finish Last?

NHL 2024-25 Worst Record Odds and Prediction: Which Team Will Finish Last?

The worst NHL team odds for 2024-25 offer a unique approach to hockey futures. While some teams in the NHL have Stanley Cup aspirations, other clubs are trying to stay out of the basement.

In this article, I examine the latest odds and share my predictions for the team to finish with the worst NHL regular season record in 2024-25.

2024-25 Worst NHL Team Odds

The following NHL worst record betting odds are courtesy of Bovada:

TEAMODDS
San Jose Sharks-200
Chicago Blackhawks+140

The NHL worst record odds have shifted with just under two weeks left in the regular season! San Jose (-200) is still favored with an implied win probability of 66.7%. However, the Sharks were -600 at NHL betting sites on March 21, which gave them an 85.7% implied win chance! They haven’t set the world on fire with three wins in their last 11 games, but there have been a couple of frisky wins in there.

One of those wins came over Chicago (+140), who were +375 on March 21, but now have an implied chance to win of 41.7%, which is up from 21.0%. That “loss” keeps the Blackhawks in the mix for the NHL’s worst record, which increases their odds in the NHL Draft lottery. They might need more help than the Sharks, going forward.

2024-25 Worst NHL Team Options

The best of the worst was a competitive NHL betting market this season, but you can still find some value!

San Jose Sharks (-200)

The Sharks beat Toronto twice in the month of March, both in shootouts. But I think that says more about the Maple Leafs, who lead the Atlantic Division, not taking the Sharks seriously. The Sharks lost back-to-back games to the New York Rangers and at Los Angeles by scores of 6-1 and 8-1, respectively. But the vibes are still good in San Jose.

Their second-round pick in 2022, Cam Lund, made his debut on March 27, and has scored two goals in his first four games. You can package Lund with the rest of San Jose’s young talent in William Eklund, Macklin Celebrini, and Will Smith.

The Sharks do have a tough run-in as they face Edmonton, one of the top favorites in the Stanley Cup odds, three times, Calgary twice, Minnesota, and Vancouver. Over their last eight games, the Sharks will face just one team under .500, and that is Seattle. There is an easy path for the Sharks to finish at the bottom of the league, which is why they’re leading the way in the NHL worst record odds. But they’re a young team that doesn’t know any better, and they’re going to play hard every night.

Chicago Blackhawks (+140)

I’m not going to accuse the Blackhawks of giving up on the season, but other people have. Chicago is on a brutal run to close out the season, losing ten of their last 11 games, and they’ve allowed three goals or more in each of their games. Amidst all the losing, the Blackhawks are trying to keep spirits up.

It’s tough to find any positives for the Blackhawks in the last month, although the offense exploded in a 7-4 win over Philadelphia, who fired John Tortorella after their next game. Ryan Donato had an excellent March, scoring ten goals and nine assists in 15 games. Connor Bedard had four goals and five assists in the same period, but again, the former #1 pick won’t be 20 until July 17.

The Blackhawks have Colorado, Washington, and Winnipeg left on the schedule, along with Montreal and Ottawa. But they also have two games against Pittsburgh, who is under .500, as is Boston. That might be slightly better than San Jose’s schedule, but the Blackhawks shouldn’t be favored against any team, at any time. With the exception of Donato, and maybe Bedard, avoid the Blackhawks in your NHL player prop bets for the rest of the season.

2024-25 NHL Worst Team Predictions and Betting Pick

I’m picking Chicago with my NHL worst record prediction at +140 for the value! But I will have my eye on the last stretch of games as the Blackhawks are truly awful. I want to give the edge here to San Jose because they have a really tough slate heading into the summer. But I can see them eking out a win or two down the stretch.

Chicago’s schedule is slightly easier, but even the two games against Pittsburgh, Sidney Crosby will have his team ready. The game against the Bruins is in Boston, and Chicago’s road record is worst than San Jose. It wouldn’t shock me at all if the Blackhawks lost every game for the rest of the season!
