Oppenheimer and Barbie received the most hype and wins at the box office in 2023, but will it translate to wins at the Golden Globes? In August, Barbie reached the $1.18 billion mark, while Oppenheimer was nearing $650 million at the global box office3.
They are well-represented in the 2024 Golden Globe nominations, and will likely be a popular bet at Golden Globe betting sites.

Golden Globe Predictions
Check out our predictions for the 81st Golden Globe Awards:
Best Female Actor: Motion Picture Musical/Comedy
Emma Stone is in a terrific position to clean up during awards season. Not only is she primed to win the Golden Globe for best female actor, but expect her to be a force at the Academy Awards as well.
Stone’s portrayal of Bella Baxter is regarded as one of the most transformative performances of the year. For good reason, Stone has received plenty of buzz for her effort in Poor Things. As riveting as Stone is in the film, her odds at -300 make plenty of sense. Back Stone to win the Best Female Actor in a Musical or Comedy.
Best Male Actor: Motion Picture Drama
There is a two-way battle between Bradley Cooper and Cillian Murphy for Best Male Actor in a Motion Picture Drama. Oppenheimer will see plenty of awards in Beverly Hills, but this one is likely Cooper’s to lose.
Bradley has never won top honors despite being nominated three times for an Oscar. However, he should stand a chance to compete in a relatively beatable field.
If you didn’t know that Bradley Cooper was cast to play Leonard Bernstein in Maestro, then you wouldn’t know it was him. Method acting isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but Cooper does well in this role. In a close call at the wire, Cooper likely takes the Golden Globe over Murphy.
Best Male Actor: Motion Picture Musical/Comedy
The Golden Globe Awards odds suggest that there isn’t a clear consensus between Paul Giamatti and Jeffrey Wright for Best Male Actor in a Musical or Comedy. At -120 odds, Giamatti has some decent betting value, though. In our opinion, Giamatti should likely be a -160 favorite.
Giamatti stars in The Holdovers and will pick up accolades well beyond the Golden Globes for his portrayal of Paul Hunham.
Hunham is a hated professor at a boys’ boarding school who develops an unlikely bond with a troubled student after being forced to stay on campus over the holidays. The character development due to Giamatti’s role in the film earns top marks and should be rewarded with a Golden Globe.
Best Director: Motion Picture
Christopher Nolan has some competition against Yorgos Lanthimos. However, Oppenheimer is set to win several awards.
Nolan is the easy choice for the Best Director in a Motion Picture award. It would be a fairly significant upset if anyone but Nolan wins here.
Best Female Actor: Motion Picture Drama
Another actor with serious Oscar buzz is Lily Gladstone for her portrayal of Mollie Burkhart in the Western crime drama Killers of the Flower Moon.
Gladstone and Leonardo DiCaprio work well together to bring us back to the 1920s to revisit the Ernest Burkhart murders. DiCaprio is the face of the movie, but Gladstone plays a critical role in driving the story.
It’s Gladstone’s award, or we’ll have a slight robbery on our hands for Best Female Actor in a Drama.
Best Motion Picture: Drama
We are surprised to find that Oppenheimer is only a -400 favorite. Oppenheimer has an implied probability of 80 percent to win for Best Motion Picture.
In reality, Oppenheimer should have better than a 90 percent chance of winning this Golden Globe. It’s a rich price to pay, but there is still a bit of value despite Oppenheimer’s Golden Globe odds listed at -400.
Best Motion Picture: Musical/Comedy
There is going to be a duel between Poor Things and Barbie for the Best Motion Picture in a Musical or Comedy.
These are two very different films, but they are in the same category for this award. Poor Things probably deserves the nod, but voters will likely side with Barbie.
Based on its immense success at the box office, Barbie will receive at least a couple of nods at the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards. Also, the value is too good to ignore on Barbie at +190.
Best Score: Motion Picture
The Best Score in a Motion Picture award is another trophy likely going to Oppenheimer. In what should be one of the biggest locks of the night, Ludwig Goransson receives high praise for his musical talents at the Golden Globe Awards.
Best Supporting Female Actor: Television
Meryl Streep is favored to win her ninth Golden Globe in 2024. The 74-year-old is in a good position to pull it off for her effort in Only Murders in the Building.
However, don’t be surprised if Elizabeth Debicki steals the Golden Globe and comes out victorious for Best Supporting Female Actor in a Television Series.
The 33-year-old native of Paris plays Princess Diana in The Crown and is the centerpiece of the latest season. At +130, we are willing to take those odds on Debicki. Streep has brand name appeal with voters, but Debicki should be the pick.
Best Supporting Male Actor: Television
Matthew Macfadyen is fantastic in his portrayal of Tom Wambsgans in Succession. The highly popular HBO comedy-drama had a terrific four-year run and should earn some recognition at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards.
It would be fitting to see Macfadyen go out on top with a Golden Globe in his hand. At even money, he has excellent value to win the award at BetOnline.
Best Television Female Actor: Drama Series
Kerri Russell has some company with Sarah Snook for the Best Television Actor in a Drama Series award. It’s a two-actor race between Russell and Snook.
Both are excellent in their roles, but expect Russell to receive the nod for her effort in The Diplomat. Russell takes on a job as the ambassador to the United Kingdom while navigating a relationship with a high-ranking politician. Consider adding Russell to your Golden Globe Awards betting card for 2024.
Best Television Female Actor: Musical/Comedy Series
We were surprised to see Ayo Edebiri as a -125 favorite for this category. We are anticipating Edeberi being a larger favorite for her role in The Bear.
Fortunately, it means that we are getting top value on Edebiri at this price. She is in the driver’s seat and should prevail over Quinta Brunson of Abbott Elementary.
Best Television Male Actor: Drama Series
Our final Golden Globe bet is a Pedro Pascal vs. Kieran Culkin showdown. One of these two is likely celebrating on January 7.
In his first Golden Globe nomination, the former The Mandalorian actor has long paid his dues to win a prominent award. Culkin is a deserving winner, though Pascal’s job in The Last of Us is superior. In a razor-thin count, look for Pascal to prevail for his first-ever Golden Globe win.
