Horse racing handicappers can now lock in their 2024 Dubai World Cup picks because the odds are out! The best horse racing betting sites already offer prices for the race that will take place on the Meydan Racecourse on Saturday, March 30.
The field of 13 thoroughbreds will race across ten furlongs on the dirt for the top prize out of a huge $12 million purse, the second highest in the world after the Saudi Cup’s $20 million.
The stakes are high, and you can cash in alongside the winning connections in Dubai. In this article, I dissect the latest Dubai World Cup betting odds and the favorites, before sharing my predictions and best bet for the race.
Dubai World Cup 2024 Odds
The following Dubai World Cup betting odds are courtesy of BetUS:
HORSE | ODDS |
---|---|
Ushba Tesoro | +275 |
Derma Sotogake | +300 |
Kabirkhan | +550 |
Senor Buscador | +700 |
Laurel River | +1400 |
Wilson Tesoro | +1400 |
Newgate | +1400 |
Newgrange | +1500 |
Crupi | +1600 |
Dura Erede | +2500 |
Military Law | +3200 |
Clapton | +5000 |
Defunded | +5000 |
Ushba Tesoro is the odds-on favorite to win the Dubai World Cup 2024. At +275, the horse has an implied probability of 26.7% to win at Meydan Racecourse. Another Japanese contender, colt Derma Sotogake is close second.
A few more contestants are not so far behind, so we don’t have a convincing favorite. It should be a close one, with multiple potential winners.
Dubai World Cup 2024 Favorites
Ushba Tesoro and Derma Sotogake currently stand above the rest in the Dubai World Cup betting markets. Along with Kabirkhan, these three horses round out the top three favorites to win the event later this month, so let’s start with them.
Ushba Tesoro (+275)
Ryotukuji Kenji Holdings has a good one with seven-year-old Ushba Tesoro who already won the same race last year. Trained by Noboru Takagi, the favorite enters the 2024 Dubai World Cup in tremendous form.
The defending Dubai World Cup winner is back at Meydan Racecourse, searching for back-to-back wins. Last year, Ushba Tesoro drew clear in the stretch to win by 2 ¾ lengths over the favorite, Algiers.

Jockey Yuga Kawada ran a perfect race to pilot Ushba Tesoro from the back of the field to the winner’s circle. It was the fifth straight win for Ushba Tesoro, followed with a victory in the Nippon TV Hai to make it six straight in September 2023.
On November 4, 2023, Ushba Tesoro ran his first race on US soil in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (Gr. 1). Despite the loss, his speed rating of 113 was still promising. He finished 5th and then promptly returned home to win the Tokyo Daishoten (Gr. 1) on December 29, 2023.
In his latest outing, Ushba Tesoro finished 2nd in the $20 million Saudi Cup (Gr. 1) a month ago. I expect another strong run in the Dubai World Cup, so the odds of +275 are definitely worth considering.
Derma Sotogake (+300)
US horse racing fans are likely familiar with Hiroyuki Asanuma’s Derma Sotogake. The young colt competed in the two most prominent horse races in the country in 2023 — the Kentucky Derby (Gr. 1) and Breeders’ Cup Classic (Gr. 1).
Derma Sotogake closed with mid-tier odds to win the Kentucky Derby. He ran just about as expected, with a 6th-place finish at Churchill Downs. Despite failing to get the win, it was a fine effort for Derma Sotogake’s first attempt at a US track.
The colt was coming off an impressive run, with wins in four of his previous five events, including the UAE Derby (Gr. 2). Following the Kentucky Derby, Derma Sotogake stayed in the US for his next race in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita Park.
It was a better result for Derma Sotogake, as the horse finished 2nd with a speed rating of 115. Derma Sotogake had the advantage over Ushba Tesoro at Santa Anita, but they reversed spots in the Saudi Cup.
In a disappointing showing, Derma Sotogake finished 5th there, so I’m not sure backing this contestant at +300 is sensible.
Kabirkhan (+550)
Should you include Kabirkhan in your Dubai World Cup predictions? According to the latest odds, handicappers betting on the Dubai World Cup are giving Derma and Ushba Tesoro more credit.
However, California Chrome’s son Kabirkhan could give them a sizable challenge. The Kazakhstan-owned horse is trained by eight-time UAE champion Doug Watson.
With wins in the 2024 Handicap and 2024 Al Maktoum Challenge (Gr. 1) in January, Kabirkhan will now take the jump to the Dubai World Cup.
The 2024 Al Maktoum Challenge (Gr. 1) is the most significant win of Kabirkhan’s career thus far. The Dubai World Cup will be a notable step up in class, however.
The stingier test in the Dubai Cup will likely convince handicappers to not include Kabirkhan in their horse racing betting strategy. The horse hasn’t faced a field as talented as the one he’ll see at the Dubai World Cup 2024.
Nevertheless, at +550 odds, Kabirkhan is among the favorites on the 2024 Dubai World Cup odds board at BetUS.
Top Sleepers for the Dubai World Cup 2024
I believe some of the 2024 Dubai World Cup best bets are actually sleepers. There are three horses that I’ve identified as potential longshot winners, so let’s check them out.
-
If Newgrange can find his usual form, he should have a decent chance to win at the wire. With seven victories in 14 races overall, this American-bred horse won back-to-back Grade 2 races in December and January.
Although Newgrange couldn’t keep pace in the Santa Anita Handicap (Gr 1) for a 6th-place finish, the $325,000 Newgrange is capable of much more.
-
If Naser Askar’s Military Law can build on his latest effort, he is going to have a true chance to pull off an upset at Meydan Racecourse.
On March 2, Military Law edged clear for a win in the Al Maktoum Classic (Gr. 2). The victory came two years following Military Law’s triumph in the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1 (Gr. 2). This sleeper pick is worth considering at these generous odds of +3200.
-
Clapton is one last horse that you should consider looking at for your Dubai World Cup 2024 betting picks. The Florida-bred Clapton did well in a career at Gulfstream Park from 2021 to 2023.
His wins included a Grade 3 score in the Ghostzapper Stakes (Gr. 3) on April 1, 2023. This past September, Clapton captured the Lukas Classic Stakes (Gr. 2) at Churchill Downs.
More recently, he finished 3rd in back-to-back graded starts at his new home in Dubai. On March 2, Clapton battled with Military Law to finish 3rd for a solid showing. Consistently posting speed figures of over 100, this horse is better than the odds of +5000 imply.
Dubai World Cup 2024 Prediction and Betting Pick
The class of runners entered in the Dubai World Cup 2024 drops off after Ushba Tesoro and Derma Sotogate. I foresee the Japanese horse racing rivalry to continue at Meydan Racecourse in a big way.
A duel between Ushba Tesoro and Derma Sotogate down the stretch is not out of the question. However, Ushba Tesoro has been in much better horse recently and I expected a bigger gap in the odds.
There isn’t another horse that has won as consistently as Ushba Tesoro over the last two years. Since October 23, 2022, at the Brazil Cup, Ushba Tesoro has recorded some incredible results.
He has seven wins in nine starts and finished at least 2nd in eight of the races. The only outlier was the 5th-place effort in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. That wasn’t the worst run for Ushba Tesoro, either. Despite the loss, he was fast with a speed figure of 112.
Consider Ushba Tesoro as your top 2024 Dubai World Cup betting pick on March 30. Although he’s the favorite, betting on Ushba Tesoro at +275 is great value to repeat as champ in the Dubai World Cup.
