NFL Coach of the Year Odds for 2024–25

The following NFL Coach of the Year betting odds are courtesy of Bovada:

COACHODDS
Mike Tomlin (Steelers)+300
Dan Campbell (Lions)+400
Jim Harbaugh (Chargers)+500
Jonathan Gannon (Cardinals)+650
Kevin O’Connell (Vikings)+650
Dan Quinn (Commanders)+850
Sean Payton (Broncos)+1400
Andy Reid (Chiefs)+2500
Sean McDermott (Bills)+2500

We have a new favorite at the top of the board at Bovada! Pittsburgh’s Mike Tomlin made a big jump from +1200 to +300, which gives him an implied probability of 25% to win this award. Somehow, it would be the first time that Tomlin has been named NFL Coach of the Year!

Detroit’s Dan Campbell (+400) has slipped to second, but still has an implied probability of 20% to win. The Lions are now the favorite to win it all, according to the Super Bowl 59 odds ahead of Week 12 action, and Campbell has been at the heart of this terrific campaign.

Jim Harbaugh (+500) of the Los Angeles Chargers is next in his first season back in the NFL, followed by Arizona’s Jonathan Gannon (+650), Minnesota’s Kevin O’Connell (+650), and Washington’s Dan Quinn (+850).

Then, there is a sizeable drop at offshore sportsbooks to veteran head coaches Sean Payton (+1400) of Denver, and Andy Reid (+2500) of Kansas City.

NFL Coach of the Year 2024–25 Main Favorites

A handful of coaches are in the mix to win the 2024–2025 Coach of the Year award. Tomlin is at the top of a loaded list. With seven weeks left in the regular season, there is still plenty of football to be played!

Here is a look at the top favorites to win the 2024–2025 Coach of the Year award:

Mike Tomlin (+300)

The Steelers are 8-2 and atop the AFC North, and this might be Tomlin’s best coaching job to date in a fantastic career. He gave 35-year-old Russell Wilson a chance at quarterback after many in the league thought he was done. While Wilson hasn’t been his old self, he isn’t making mistakes to hurt the Steelers. They’ll need more of that when the Steelers visit Cleveland on Thursday Night Football.

The Steelers are leaning on a strong running game that is eighth in the NFL, eighth in yards allowed per game, and they’re second in the league in turnover differential with a +11.

Tomlin (and his coaching staff) has this team playing well above their ceiling. Eight of their ten games have been settled by ten points, or less, and the Steelers want to play “ugly” football. But as long as they’re winning, it’s fine by Tomlin, who has NEVER finished below .500 in 18 seasons in Pittsburgh!

Dan Campbell (+400)

Campbell has the Lions on top of the NFC North, and tied with Kansas City for the league’s best record with a 9-1 record, and that loss came in Week 2 to Tampa Bay. Since then, the Lions have won eight in a row, and has scored 47 points or more in three games since their Week 5 bye! He has cultivated a family feeling around the team, which extends to the media as well.

The Detroit offense has exploded, ranking third in yards gained, they’re balanced, and they lead the league in points per game. The defense is fifth in points allowed, and the team is fourth in turnover differential with a +9.

Campbell has the Lions playing hard-nosed, yet explosive, football, and they’re going to be a handful come playoff time, especially with home-field advantage. Now would be a good time to jump on Campbell’s NFL Coach of the Year odds!

You might even want to consider the Lions in The Sports Geek’s free NFL pick’em contest to win big prizes!

Jim Harbaugh (+500)

Harbaugh has jumped into the betting favorites tier of the board at Bovada, as the Chargers are 7-3 and only two games behind Kansas City in the AFC West! The Chargers have won four in a row heading into NFL WEek 12 action, which is a tough Monday Night Football game against Baltimore at home. That means another edition of the “Harbaugh Bowl”, as Jim’s older brother, John, is the Ravens’ head coach. The two last met  at Super Bowl 47, when John’s Ravens beat Jim’s 49ers 34-31.

The Chargers don’t play flashy football, but they get the job done. They’re 18th in yards gained, 11th in yards allowed, and sixth in turnover differential at +8. Quarterback Justin Herbert looks as healthy as he has been in years, and the Chargers are confident in their ability. If they end up winning the AFC West, Jim Harbaugh will get some NFL COY votes. He won the award in 2011, his first season in San Francisco.

Jonathan Gannon (+650)

Gannon gets the nod over Minnesota’s Kevin O’Connell, who also has NFL Coach of the Year odds of +650. The Vikings are in tough in the NFC North with Detroit and Green Bay, and even though they’ve won three in a row to get to 8-2, they’re not as good as they were early in the season. Meanwhile, Gannon has the 6-4 Cardinals in first place in the NFC West, which is one of the most confusing divisions in the NFL with three 5-5 teams!

The Cardinals return from their Week 11 bye with road games at Seattle and Minnesota, so we’ll know more about Gannon’s NFL COY odds in two weeks. Quarterback Kyler Murray looks like he’s back to his best, and the defense bends, but they’re still 12th in points allowed. Gannon’s NFL COY odds might be a little too low right now, but in two weeks, he could flip the narrative with a couple wins!

Top NFL Coach of the Year Sleepers

Unlike most end-of-season awards, sleepers take home the Coach of the Year award at an alarming rate. That’s because it’s difficult to predict which coaches and teams will have to overcome adversity in the upcoming season.

Long shots for this award are often great value, considering there are only 32 coaches who can potentially win it. Here are some of my favorite COY value bets for the NFL after Week 7:

  1. Payton, who won this award in 2006, has the Broncos at 6-5, and they would be 7-4 if their game-winning field goal in Kansas City wasn’t blocked in Week 10. But the Broncos being in this position, with a rookie quarterback, is enough to get Payton some love as a NFL Coach of the Year sleeper!

Much of Denver’s success is down to how Payton has handed Bo Nix, giving him more to do each week. Nix is coming off a career game against Atlanta in which he threw for 307 yards and four touchdowns.

The defense is also third in points allowed this season. Denver probably won’t have the record to get Payton this award, but he deserves plaudits with the way the Broncos have played this season.

  2. The Chiefs finally lost a game as they’re now 9-1 after a 30-21 loss in Buffalo, and truth be told, it was amazing that they went undefeated that long. Patrick Mahomes has struggled under center this season, but Reid is scheming up enough gameplans to keep Kansas City around until the end of games. They should be able to get back on track in NFL Week 12 action, as the Chiefs travel to face the lowly Carolina Panthers.

Now, the Chiefs can focus on the main goal, which is a Super Bowl three-peat. Only Detroit has better Super Bowl 59 odds than the Chiefs, who have been surviving thanks to a defense that is eighth in points allowed. But if anyone can the offense back on track, it’s Reid.

2024–25 NFL Coach of the Year Prediction and Betting Pick

For our top NFL Coach of the Year pick, we’re going after a selection with value!

I’m going with Dan Campbell’s NFL COY odds at +400, even though there isn’t as much value as before Week 5. You could have gotten Campbell at +2000. However, +400 is still a very good price here, and probably as good as you’re going to get.

The Lions should be favored in each game for the rest of the season, with the possible exception of a road game in San Francisco in Week 17. They’ll hae an excellent chance to have the best record in the league when it’s all said and done. Jump on Campbell’s NFL COY odds now, because if the Lions go on a run, those odds will plummet, and so will Campbell’s value!
