United Cup Format and Key Info

The 2025 United Cup schedule runs from December 27 – January 5, 2025 in Perth and Sydney Australia. The matches will commence late on December 26 for North American viewing schedules.

The United Cup brings together the best men’s and women’s players and combines them on one team to represent their respective countries. Matchups will be in a best-of-three format with a men’s singles, women’s singles and mixed doubles match.

The competing 18 nations have been split into six groups of three teams each, with the group winners and the two best runners-up advancing to the quarterfinals. Both USA and Canada have been drawn into Group A in Perth.

You can find a full breakdown of all groups on the official site of the tournament.

United Cup 2025 Favorites

Let’s cover the top three betting favorites in our United Cup preview.

Poland (+300)

Team Poland boasts the second-ranked women’s player in the World in Iga Swiatek. Swiatek won this year’s French Open, took bronze at the Paris Olympics and guided the country into the United Cup Final last year. She comes into this tournament after serving a one-month doping suspension.

On the men’s side Hubert Hurkacz ranks 16th, claimed one title last season and had a 40-19 record. That’s a very solid combination, so it’s not a surprise to see Poland at the top of the United Cup betting odds.

USA (+300

Most teams have rostered two men’s and women’s singles players plus one male/female doubles specialist. When you look at the tennis rankings, it’s no wonder the USA are among the United Cup favorites. Coco Gauff (3), Taylor Fritz (4) and Danielle Collins (11) are all ranked among the top players in the World.

Even Robert Galloway (34) and Desirae Krawczyk (11) come in with solid doubles rankings.

Fritz has reached a career-high in the rankings this year, was 53-23 and made his first Grand Slam Final losing to Jannick Sinner in the US Open. He was also a finalist in the ATP Finals, again losing to Sinner.

Gauff didn’t reach any Grand Slam Finals this season, but won three singles and one doubles title, including the WTA Final, while being 54-17 overall and 15-2 in recent matches.

Greece (+800)

Stefanos Tsitsipas (11) and Maria Sakkari (32) headline the Greece squad but the rest of the roster leaves much to be desired. The younger Tsitsipas (Petros) joins the doubles side but is ranked 105th.

The older Tsitsipas (Stefanos) won one title last season and went 45-22. Sakkari could have some rust having been injured at the US Open and being off since September. This team will likely struggle in Australia.

Best Sleepers In the United Cup 2025

It’s easy to make a case for the top contenders in the United Cup tennis predictions. However, let’s dig a little deeper down the odds board to look for some potentially better betting value.

Italy (+1400)

I’m tipping Italy as a 2025 United Cup sleeper. They aren’t the longest of long shots at +1400, but are outside of the top favorites. Italy will be favored to emerge from Group E alongside Switzerland and France. They boast one of the breakout stars on the WTA tour last season in Jasmine Paolini who rocketed to 4th overall in the WTA rankings.

Paolini reached back-to-back Slam finals in the French and Wimbledon. Overall, she went 41-20 in 2024. She won four doubles titles and one singles title (1000 Dubai) and won Olympic doubles gold with United Cup teammate Sara Errani.

Both Paolini and Errani were also just recently part of the Team Italy side that won the Billie Jean Cup in November.

On the men’s side Flavio Cobolli and Andrea Vavassori were also recent champions in the Davis Cup, so they know how to win international tournaments.

Canada (+1800)

Team Canada may not have many players highly ranked on their roster but both Felix Auger-Aliassime (29) and Leyla Fernandez (31) are consistently among the contenders on tour and both played in this tournament last year.

FAA also had a huge summer in Paris where he won bronze in mixed doubles and finished fourth and just out of the medals in singles.

The problem for Canada is the tough draw. The team is the same group as the US, so progressing to the knockouts won’t be easy.

Australia (+3300)

With the United Cup taking place in Australia, it’s worth looking at the hometown Aussies as a potential longshot at +3300. They do boast the 9th-ranked Alex de Minaur on the men’s side and the 13th-ranked Matthew Edben in men’s doubles. Australia’s top-ranked women’s player is Olivia Gadecki who headlines the women’s side, though she’s only ranked 97th.

The arrow is pointing up for this group though. Ebden advanced to the quarterfinals in three slams last season. Gadecki reached her first singles final and Ebden won the Australian Open as well as gold in Paris on the doubles side.

Australia has been solid in team events of late too, reaching the semis for the third straight year in the Davis Cup, a team that featured de Minaur and Ebden.

They went all the way to the semis of this tournament last year too before losing to eventual champions Germany. Gadecki was a part of an Aussie side that advanced to the quarters of the Billie Jean Cup in November as well.

If you add the home advantage, it’s easy to see why Australia shouldn’t be ignored.

United Cup Winner Prediction and Betting Pick

Team USA looks the strongest on paper and did win the inaugural United Cup in 2023. Meanwhile, Poland’s Swiatek has over 120 weeks in the #1 spot over the past three seasons.

The Greeks have had deep runs in this tournament, reaching the semis in 2023 and the quarters in 2024, so could offer some better value. Germany also returns a similar roster to last year’s winning team.

The roster is headlined by World #2 Alexander Zverev, who was a finalist at the French Open and won two Masters 1000 titles in 2024. They certainly could offer value at 14-1. The German team also includes Tim Puetz who won the ATP Doubles Title last season. Laura Siegemund was part of the winning German team last season and returns once again alongside Zverev.

However, team USA looks like the clear pick here, purely based on depth and overall quality. The roster is full of top-notch players, so that’s my final being pick for the United Cup 2025.
