Repeating as the World Cup champions is an incredibly hard thing to do, and no nation has done this since Brazil won back-to-back World Cups in 1958 and 1962.
Group D favorites France has their work cut out for them with such a tough field heading into this 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The six games in 2022 FIFA World Cup Group D will be played from Tuesday, November 22 to Wednesday, November 30 and will culminate with the top two teams making the Round of 16. The 2022 World Cup Group D Odds have defending champions France logical and big favorites.
Here are the 2022 World Cup Group D Online FIFA World Cup betting odds from BetOnline to win this competitive group.
2022 FIFA World Cup Group D—Odds To Win
- France -240
- Denmark +240
- Australia +1800
- Tunisia +1800
The 2022 World Cup Group D Odds have Kylian Mbappé and Les Bleus as prohibitive -240 favorites to win the group. Denmark is priced at +240 followed by Australia and Tunisia at 18/1. These numbers say France and Denmark advance, but the big game will be Australia-Denmark.
The winners of Group D will move on to the Round of 16 and play the Group C (Argentina, Mexico, Poland, Saudi Arabia) runners-up. The runners-up from Group D will play the winners of Group C, likely Lionel Messi and Argentina in the next round.

- Last Appearance: 2018

France has a powerful Roster loaded with great Forwards and goal scorers. Les Bleus is expecting to go 3-0-0 in Group D play. A Draw against Denmark won’t kill France (or Denmark), but it’s a foregone conclusion that the defending World Cup champions move on to the Round of 16.
France Head Coach Didier Deschamps has an embarrassment of riches starting with GK Hugo Lloris (Tottenham Hotspur) in the back.
They also have great defenders like Manchester United’s Raphaël Varane (87 caps), and Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard (46 caps) and Lucas Hernandez (32 caps).
At Forward is the strength of this talented team with Kylian Mbappé (PSG), Karim Benzema (Real Madrid), Olivier Giroud (AC Milan), Antoine Griezmann (Atlético Madrid), Kingsley Coman (Bayern Munich), Christopher Nkunku (RB Leipzig) and Ousmane Dembélé (Barcelona).
In 2022, the reigning World Cup champion Les Bleus have a 3-2-3 (W-D-L) record with two losses to Group D-mates Denmark (1-2, 0-2) as well as last 2018 World Cup runners-up Croatia (0-1). Reading into that means the opener vs. Denmark is massive and that the Danes will be confident
France was one of four teams from Europe who participated in the first-ever FIFA World Cup in Uruguay in 1930.
Les Bleus will face Australia on Tuesday, November 22 at Al Janoub Stadium (Grass) in Al Wakrah in the Group D opener for both teams.
Online oddsmakers at BetOnline currently have Benzema and France as prohibitive -470 favorites in the 3-way market with Australia at +1500 (15/1) and a Draw priced at +580. The Total (Over/Under) is 2½, 3o -125.

Denmark +240
- Confederation: UEFA
- Pot: 2
- Method of Qualification: UEFA Group F winners
- World Cup Appearances: 6
- Last Appearance: 2018
- Best Performance: Quarterfinals (1998)
- FIFA Ranking: #10
- FIFA Code: DEN
- Odds to Qualify Round of 16: -280
- Odds to Win World Cup: 30/1
FIFA #10-ranked Denmark and Christian Eriksen (Manchester United) are my favorites to surprise all and win Group D. Why?
The Danes have already beaten France twice this calendar year and have held Les Bleus to just 1 goal in more than 180 minutes of play.
Lifetime in World Cup play, the two teams have met three times with France winning 2-1 in the 1998 World Cup. Denmark won 2-0 in the 2002 world Cup and the two played to a scoreless 0-0 Draw last time in the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Goals may be scarce again when they meet.
Denmark will open Group D play against Tunisia, and although they are also an underrated team, expect the Danish Dynamite to roll to a 2-0 victory with Espayol’s Martin Braithwaite (62 caps, 10 World Cup goals) and Copenhagen’s Andreas Cornelius (41 caps, 9 goals) leading the charge.
The odds for that opening game see returning icon Eriksen and Denmark as -255 favorites with Tunisia at +810 and a Draw at +375 on the moneyline in the 3-way market.
The Total is 2½u -120. Denmark is a team to watch and a Round of 8 appearance wouldn’t surprise me.
Looking for a way out of Group D 🇦🇺
Can the @Socceroos advance to the knockout stages for only the second time?

Australia 18/1
- Confederation: AFC
- Pot: 4
- Method of Qualification: AFC vs CONMEBOL Playoff winners
- World Cup Appearances: 6
- Last Appearance: 2018
- Best Performance: Round of 16 (2006)
- FIFA Ranking: #38
- FIFA Code: AUS
- Odds to Qualify Round of 16: +325
- Odds to Win World Cup: 400/1
FIFA currently ranks Australia #38 (Tunisia is #30), so essentially the Socceroos are the longest shots to advance and win this Group D. Why? A very weak attack Down Under and this is a team that has been much better in past years and who snuck into this FIFA World Cup winning a Playoff.
The Socceroos are coached by Graham Arnold and Matthew Ryan (FC Copenhagen) is the Captain. This team has gone 5-3-2 this year, losing only to Japan and Saudi Arabia. But expect this to be a really tough group for Australia, a winless 0-3-0 tourney and see you later is possible.
Thirty-one-year-old Forward Mathew Leckie (Melbourne City) is a leading threat for Australia and he is the Socceroos cp-leader heading in with 73 and he has scored 13 goals for the Aussies.
Not having a powerful attack against the likes of defending champions France, defensive-minded Denmark and Tunisia means maybe 2 or 3 goals may be all the Socceroos can muster for their pouches. AFC teams seldom do that well up against the heavyweights UEFA and CONMEBOL.
And facing France in that aforementioned opener on Tuesday, November 22 won’t be a pleasant entry into this tournament in Qatar either. Grab a Foster’s Lager, put another shrimp or 11 on the barbie and cry into your beer because this probably won’t be a fun World Cup Down Under. G’day?

Tunisia 18/1
- Confederation: CAF
- Pot: 3
- Method of Qualification: CAF Third Round winners
- World Cup Appearances: 6
- Last Appearance: 2018
- Best Performance: Group Stage (1994)
- FIFA Ranking: #30
- FIFA Code: TUN
- Odds to Qualify Round of 16: +350
- Odds to Win World Cup: 750/1
Along with Saudi Arabia, Tunisia are the co- longshots to win 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar at 750/1 betting odds. But both teams are better than most imagine and may surprise for a match or two in this tournament.
Historically, teams from the CAF (Confédération Africaine de Football) haven’t done that well at the World Cup and haven’t won the trophy despite having many great teams from Soccer-loving nations like Nigeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, South Africa, and the Ivory Coast.
The new Tunisia Head Coach is Jalel Kadri and the Eagles of Carthage Captain is Youssef Msakni (Al Arabi). This team has gone 7-2-4 (W-D-L) this calendar year with the four Losses coming to the feet of CAF-mates Mali, Gambia and Burkina Faso (all 0-1) and 2022 WC favorites Brazil (1-4).
The Captain is Msakni and he has some quality teammates up top in Wahbi Khazri (Montpelier), Naïm Sliti (68 caps, 13 goals), Zamalek’s Seifeddine Jaziri (29 caps, 10 goals), and Kuwait SC’s Taha Yassine Khenissi (48 caps, 9 goals). This team should be able to score more easily than Australia.
But Match 6 and the opener in Group D at Education City Stadium (Grass) in Al Rayyan on Tuesday, November 22 looks problematic for Tunisia and scoring won’t come easy in that contest. The odds see the Danish Dynamite as -225 chalks with Tunisia at +850, so best of luck there.
World Cup Group D Predictions
Not all eight 2022 FIFA World Cup groups will be won by the oddsmakers favorites and there should be two or three of them where the perceived second-best team ends up pulling off a surprise. Australia and Tunisia simply aren’t good enough and France and Denmark will advance.
Knocking off or finishing ahead of the defending FIFA World Cup champions is never an easy feat, but rosters do change and sparkplug N’golo Kanté (Chelsea) and Paul Pogba are no longer playing for France. Still, Les Bleus are loaded and rightfully assumed to be the team to beat in this Group D.
The two wins this year and history support backing Denmark here, especially with Eriksen back. So, the biggest game in this Group D in my mind is the Denmark-France affair in Match 23 at the reusable Stadium 974 in the Qatari capital Doha on Saturday, November 26 (19:00).
