The Critics Choice Awards Predictions And Odds

Honoring the best of TV and Film in 2022, the 28th Critics Choice Awards are coming up this Sunday, January 15 from the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles (CW, 7 ET/6 CT/7 PT). Comedian and executive producer Chelsea Handler will be the host.

The TV nominations for the show were announced on December 7 with the movie nominations being unveiled a week later on December 14.

Everything Everywhere All At Once led all films with 14 nominations. It tied 2017’s The Shape of Water (2017), The Favourite (2018), and The Irishman (2019) followed by The Fabelmans, directed by cinematic legend Steven Spielberg with 11.

The first-year comedy on ABC, Abbott Elementary garnered 6 nominations in the Television categories with the last- and sixth-season comedy-drama from AMC, Better Call Saul, nabbed five.

Behemoth Netflix again received the most nominations at the Critics Choice awards (28)—15 for TV and 13 for Film—marking the sixth consecutive year that the American streaming service has led the pack.

Janelle Monáe will receive the seventh annual SeeHer Award while esteemed actor Jeff Bridges will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Critics Choice Awards.

28th Critics Choice Awards—Best Acting Ensemble Odds

  • Everything Everywhere All At Once Even
  • Women Talking +115
  • The Fabelmans +700
  • Glass Onion; A Knives Out Mystery +700
  • The Banshees of Inisherin +1000
  • The Women King +1500

The favorite in this category is Everything Everywhere All At Once, a comedy-drama about a Chinese-American immigrant connecting with parallel universe versions of herself to try to stop a powerful being from running the multiverse, directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.

It will be hard to beat this critically acclaimed film from A-24 with its wonderful cast that included Michelle Yeoh, Jenny Slate, Jamie Lee Curtis, Stephanie Hsu, James Hong, Ke Huy Quan, and Harry Shum Jr.

But if any other ensemble wins this award, it will be the actors in Women Talking (+115),which starred Rooney Mara, Frances McDormand, Judith Ivey, Ben Whishaw, Claire Foy, and Jessie Buckley. Critics loved this Sarah Polley-directed movie but it didn’t do very well at the box office.

28th Critics Choice Awards—Best Picture Odds

  • Everything Everywhere All At Once -120
  • The Fabelmans +200
  • Top Gun: Maverick +600
  • TAR +800
  • Avatar: The Way of Water +1000
  • The Banshees of Inisherin +1200
  • Elvis +2000
  • Women Talking +2500
  • Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery +2500
  • Rise Roar Revolt +3300

Everything Everywhere All At Once is also the favorite in this category, as it was in the Golden Globes, but it seems there is an outside possibility Spielberg’s The Fabelmans prevails here at 2/1.

With so many great films like The Banshees of Inisherin (12/1), 2022 box office winner Top Gun; Maverick (6/1), and Avatar: The Way of Water (10/1) in the Best Picture category, expect a lot of split votes.

But the high-brow Critics Choice Awards like to reward the heavier, more intellectual releases in TV and Film and it’s hard to see anyone but one of the two Critics Choice Awards Betting Odds favorites taking home this coveted award.

28th Critics Choice Awards Predictions—Best Picture Winner:

The Fabelmans 2/1

28th Critics Choice Awards—Best Actor Odds

  • Colin Farrell, The Banshees of Inisherin -115
  • Brendan Fraser, The Whale +150
  • Austin Butler, Elvis +500
  • Bill Nighy, Living +1000
  • Paul Mescal, Aftersun +1500
  • Tom Cruise, Top Gun: Maverick +1500

Analysis: This should be a two-actor battle between slight odds favorite Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin) at +115 and Brendan Fraser for his wonderful performance in The Whale at +150 (3/2) to see who goes home with the Best Actor Critics Choice Award on Sunday night.

Farrell is also the favorite in this category in the 80th Golden Globes as well as the second favorite to win Best Actor at the Academy Awards at +150 behind Fraser who is the favorite to win the Oscar in this category at -135 in that Entertainment Futures betting market.

That means weighing how you think the Critics Choice will vote collectively as opposed to the Academy Awards and the online odds we have seen for both awards shows. There is a chance that Farrell or Fraser win both, or that one gets the Critics Choice and the other the Academy Award.

28th Critics Choice Awards—Best Actress Odds

  • Cate Blanchet, TAR -115
  • Michelle Yeoh, Everything Everywhere All At Once +125
  • Daniele Deadwiler, Till +650
  • Michelle Williams, The Fabelmans +1000
  • Margot Robbie, Babylon +1500
  • Viola Davis, The Woman King +1500

Analysis: Like in the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards (-225), Cate Blanchet is the favorite in this Best Actress category at -115 betting odds), and this is one you would be wise to wager on with these current Critics Choice Awards Betting Odds.

Michelle Yeoh (Everything All At Once) at +125, Daniele Deadwiler (Till ) at +650 (13/2), and Michelle Williams (The Fabelmans) at 10/1 all have outside shots of capturing the Best Actress Award from the Critics Choice, but I’m sticking with favorite Blanchet to prevail in this category.

Viola Davis (The Woman King) and Margot Robbie, (Babylon), both at 15/1 Critics Choice odds, were wonderful in their respective films, but this is yet another seemingly two-actress category for Entertainment bettors where you throw out this nominees you think have no chance to win.

28th Critics Choice Awards Predictions—Best Actress Winner:

Cate Blanchett, TAR -115

28th Critics Choice Awards—Best Supporting Actor Odds

  • Ke Huy Quan, Everything Everywhere All At Once -325
  • Brendan Gleeson, The Banshees of Inisherin +350
  • Barry Keoghan, The Banshees of Inisherin +1000
  • Judd Hirsch, The Fabelmans +1200
  • Bryan Tyree Henry, Causeway +1500

Analysis: This looks like Ke Huy Quan’s (Everything Everywhere All At Once) category to lose priced at the current -325 Critics Choice odds, and it would be hard to make a case for betting on any of the other four nominees in this category despite their wonderful roles on the big screen in 2022.

Brendan Gleeson (+350) and Barry Keoghan (10/1) were both fantastic in the critically acclaimed Irish gem, The Banshees of Inisherin, and veteran Hollywood actor Judd Hirsch (12/1) as magnificent in The Fabelmans, but the 41-year-old Vietnamese American-born Quan will likely win this award.

28th Critics Choice Awards Predictions—Best Supporting Actress Winner:

Ke Huy Quan, Everything Everywhere All At Once -325

28th Critics Choice Awards—Best Supporting Actress Odds

  • Kerry Condon, The Banshees of Inisherin -150
  • Jamie Lee Curtis, Everything Everywhere All At Once +300
  • Jessie Buckley, Women Talking +400
  • Stephanie Hsu, Everything Everywhere All At Once +800
  • l, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery +1000
  • Angela Bassett, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever +1200

Analysis: The Critics Choice Awards Odds see Kerry Condon from the hit The Banshees of Inisherin the favorite here at -150, and it’s hard to see anyone beating Condon in this category and conventional wisdom says that this might be another one to actually make a small bet on.

Why? The voters will likely collectively lean to Banshees, like in the Best Actor category, with Jamie Lee Curtis in Everything Everywhere All At Once and Jessie Buckley in Women Talking close in the voting but possibly taking votes from each other.

Critics Choice betting odds longshots Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All At Once), Janelle Monáe (Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery), and Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) are appetizing at fist glance but this is a battle between Condon and the ageless Curtis.

Kerry Condon, The Banshees of Inisherin -150

28th Critics Choice Awards—Best Director Odds

  • Steven Spielberg, The Fabelmans -275
  • Daniel Kwan, Everything Everywhere All At Once +250
  • James Cameron, Avatar: The Way of the Water +800
  • Martin McDonagh, The Banshees of Insherin +1500
  • Todd Field, TAR +1500
  • Baz Luhrmann, Elvis +2000
  • Koduri Srisaila, RRR +2200
  • Damien Chazelle, Babylon +2500
  • Sarah Polley, Women Talking +2500
  • Gina Prince-Bythewood, The Woman King +3300

Analysis: Everything Everywhere All At Once may have had the most nominations in this year’s Critics Choice Awards with 11, but expect master director Steven Spielberg to take home the Best Director award and this is a nice one to throw $50 on to win a little more than $20 at these odds.

Spielberg’s critically acclaimed movie, The Fabelmans, is a semi-autobiographical, coming-of-age drama about himself seen through the eyes of the fictional young Sammy Fabelman, an aspiring filmmaker seeing how movies can reveal truths about his friends and dysfunctional family.

Gabriel LaBelle stars as Sammy Fabelman and Spielberg dedicated this film to his parents in real life, mother Leah Adler and father Arnold Spielberg, who dies in 2017 and 20202 respectively.

Kwan (Everything Everywhere All At Once), Cameron (Avatar: The Way of the Water), and McDonagh (The Banshees of Insherin) all hit home runs with their movies in 2022, but Spielberg hit a grand slam with The Fabelmans, a must-see in the future for anyone who is a Spielberg fans and hasn’t seen it.
