The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will have to lean heavily on the backfield in this matchup. Notre Dame isn’t a pass-first team that can expect QB Riley Leonard to pass the ball 30+ times. 

Against a dangerous Ohio State secondary, it isn’t a strategy that would be successful. In other words, expect Notre Dame RB Jadarian Price to see a decent workload in the National Championship. Price received 117 carries for the Fighting Irish this season. 

In 15 games, this averages to 7.8 carries per game. He has carried the ball at least seven times in five consecutive starts and in the double-digits in four of the previous five games. Since Nov. 23, Price has averaged 10 carries per contest.

Even with RB Jeremiyah Love in the starting lineup, Price is getting work in the backfield. With the Fighting Irish needing a big lift from the running game, he should finish with at least six carries in the National Championship. Leonard will be required to make some plays in the passing game for the Fighting Irish. However, I don’t have the most confidence in the QB firing into an elite secondary and dicing the Buckeyes up. 

Ohio State leads the nation in passing yards allowed with 161.1 per game. Leonard has had issues with turnovers in the second half of the season, so I can’t see this going particularly well for him. 

Leonard has thrown an interception in three of the last four games, including two against Penn State in the CFP Semifinals. In total, Leonard has tossed five interceptions over the last six games. 

Look for Leonard to have some nerves out of the gate in this one. Don’t be surprised if he makes an early mistake against the Buckeyes’ secondary. 

In the second half, Notre Dame is likely to be playing from behind, so Leonard will have to take some risks as a bit of a gunslinger. This should lead to a turnover. Consider backing Leonard to throw an interception for your NCAA football player props tonight!
