How Many Bowl Games Are There In 2023-24?

There are a total of 42 college bowl games in 2023-24. Including the CFP National Championship, 43 postseason college football games will be played.

On January 8, 2024, the national title game is scheduled for NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. This is the last year that the College Football Playoff consists of four teams. For the 2024-25 season, the playoffs will expand to a 12-team format.

Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023, Bowl Games

The bowl season starts off with a bang as there are seven bowl games scheduled for Saturday, December 16:

Myrtle Beach Bowl at 11 a.m. ET

Ohio Bobcats vs. Georgia Southern Eagles

Ohio and Georgia Southern get bowl season started in the morning hours on Saturday, December 16. There won’t be many people excited for a 9-3 MAC school vs a 6-6 Sun Belt team. In any event, oddsmakers are expecting a close matchup in South Carolina.

Cricket Celebration Bowl at 12:00 p.m. ET

Howard Bison vs. Florida A&M Rattlers

Howard and Florida A&M meet in the annual historically black college matchup between the MEAC and SWAC. Currently, odds are not available.

R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl at 2:15 p.m. ET

Jacksonville State Gamecocks vs. Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns

Despite this being a lower-tier bowl game between Group of Five schools, we should have a fairly entertaining game in the New Orleans Bowl.

Jacksonville State had a strong debut in their first season of Conference USA action as they went 8-4. The 6-6 Ragin’ Cajuns are small favorites over the Gamecocks, though.

Avocados From Mexico Cure Bowl at 3:30 p.m. ET

Miami (OH) RedHawks vs. Appalachian State Mountaineers

In the first-ever Avocados From Mexico Cure Bowl, the MAC and Sun Belt clash in Florida. This isn’t the most thrilling matchup, but it did make it on our list of funniest bowl games of all time.

Isleta New Mexico Bowl at 5:45 p.m. ET

New Mexico State Aggies vs. Fresno State Bulldogs

By all counts, New Mexico State had a great season. The Aggies went 7-1 in Conference USA and 10-4 overall to earn a berth in the New Mexico Bowl. 8-4 Fresno State should counter with a stout defensive showing.

Starco Brands LA Bowl Hosted by Gronk at 7:30 p.m. ET

Boise State Broncos vs. UCLA Bruins

In what should be one of the more entertaining lower-tier bowl games, the Mountain West champs face off against Chip Kelly’s UCLA Bruins. Boise State fired their coach less than a month ago and then went on to win the Mountain West and invited to the LA Bowl.

If UCLA is interested, they should win, but their motivation might be questionable after a 33-7 loss to Cal.

Radiance Technologies Independent Bowl at 9:15 p.m. ET

California Golden Bears vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders

Cal is coming off their biggest win of the season over the Bruins. It was a must-win to become bowl eligible at 6-6. Meanwhile, Texas Tech was embarrassed against the Longhorns to end their regular season with a .500 record.

Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, Bowl Games

There’s only one game scheduled for Monday and it should be completed before the NFL’s Week 16 Monday Night Football matchup.

Famous Toastery Bowl at 2:30 p.m. ET

Old Dominion Monarchs vs. Western Kentucky Hilltoppers

The bowl committee seemingly got it right with another matchup. Oddsmakers have Conference USA’s 7-5 Western Kentucky a small favorite over the 6-6 Old Dominion Monarchs.

Both teams are entering the Famous Toastery Bowl after earning bowl-clinching wins in the regular season finale.

Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023, Bowl Games

December 19 will feature one bowl game between two smaller, yet notable programs:

Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl at 9:00 p.m. ET

UTSA Roadrunners vs. Marshall Thundering Herd

UTSA opens as more than a touchdown favorite over Marshall in the Frisco Bowl. The Roadrunners were in top form in the AAC this season at 7-1. With an overall record of 8-4, they should be a tough assignment for the 6-6 Thundering Herd.

Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023, Bowl Games

After skipping a day on the calendar, the NCAAF returns to action on Thursday, December 21, with one game:

Syracuse Orange vs. South Florida Bulls

Syracuse and South Florida both had their moments this season, but not consistently enough. The 6-6 Orange and 6-6 Bulls did the bare minimum to earn a spot in the Boca Raton Bowl.

Friday, Dec. 22, 2023, Bowl Games

While many people are out doing last-minute Christmas shopping, college football fans will be at home enjoying an afternoon bowl game on December 22:

Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl at 6:30 p.m. ET

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs. UCF Knights

As a 6.5-point favorite, Central Florida is expected to have the upper hand on the ACC’s Yellow Jackets. The Knights have won three of their previous four games, while Georgia Tech is backing into this game at 6-6 following a 31-23 loss to Georgia.

Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023, Bowl Games

Like the opening weekend, December 23 will see seven exciting bowl games across the country:

Camellia Bowl at 12:00 p.m. ET

Arkansas State Red Wolves vs. Northern Illinois Huskies

Expected to be another close bowl matchup, the Sun Belt’s Arkansas State and MAC’s North Illinois should go down to the wire in the fourth quarter.

The Huskies won their last two games to become bowl eligible. Arkansas State lost two of their last three outings to drop to 6-6.

76 Birmingham Bowl at 12:00 p.m. ET

Troy Trojans vs. Duke Blue Devils

Duke probably didn’t expect to be a 5.5-point underdog to a Sun Belt opponent. However, 10-2 Troy is on a 10-game winning streak and one of the hottest Group of Five schools in the country.

Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl at 3:30 p.m. ET

James Madison Dukes vs. Air Force Falcons

In only their second season in the FBS, the Sun Belt’s James Madison is favored to win the Armed Forces Bowl over Air Force.

The Falcons tanked toward the end of the season after a strong start. However, we’ll see if James Madison prepares properly for the triple-option.

Famous Idaho Potato Bowl at 3:30 p.m. ET

Georgia State Panthers vs. Utah State Aggies

The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl is played annually on Boise State’s blue field. That’s about the only redeeming feature of this matchup. Nevertheless, 6-6 Georgia State and 6-6 Utah State should be a close game.

68 Ventures Bowl at 7:00 p.m. ET

South Alabama Jaguars vs. Eastern Michigan Eagles

The MAC’s Eastern Michigan was a long-running joke of college football. Last season, they won their first bowl game since 1987.

Unfortunately, the Eagles are not expected to return to the winner’s circle, as they are two-touchdown underdogs to South Alabama.

SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl at 7:30 p.m. ET

Utah Utes vs. Northwestern Wildcats

A trip to the Las Vegas Bowl isn’t exactly what Utah envisioned this season. At 8-4, the Utes booked a date with the 7-5 Northwestern Wildcats of the Big Ten at Allegiant Stadium. Despite this not being their primary goal, beating a Big Ten school to finish the season would be satisfying.

EasyPost Hawai’i Bowl at 10:30 p.m. ET

Coastal Carolina Chanticleers vs. San Jose State Spartans

San Jose State is getting some respect from oddsmakers at football betting sites. They are better than a touchdown favorite over 7-5 Coastal Carolina in the Hawai’i Bowl in Honolulu.

The 7-5 Spartans just missed out on an appearance in the Mountain West Championship. Is that too many points to lay against a Chanticleers squad coming off back-to-back losses?

Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2023 Bowl Games

The NCAAF is providing college football fans with a late present as they air three bowl games on the day after Christmas:

Quick Lane Bowl at 2:00 p.m. ET

Bowling Green Falcons vs. Minnesota Golden Gophers

Bowling Green and Minnesota meeting in a regional showdown between the MAC and Big Ten. The 7-5 Falcons should have it tough against a Big Ten opponent, but do the Golden Gophers have any motivation for a Quick Lane Bowl appearance at Ford Field?

Servpro First Responder Bowl at 5:30 p.m. ET

Texas State Bobcats vs. Rice Owls

Who isn’t excited for Texas State and Rice football in the First Responder Bowl? Following a thrilling 52-44 win over South Alabama, the 7-5 Bobcats landed in the First Responder Bowl as a 6.5-point favorite over Rice (6-6).

Guarantee Rate Bowl at 9:00 p.m. ET

Kansas Jayhawks vs. UNLV Rebels

Kansas’ season included an upset over Oklahoma, but also losses against Kansas State and Texas Tech. They were up and down, but this is a solid 8-4 Big 12 school.

UNLV is coming off a 44-20 loss to Boise State in the Mountain West title game. Despite the defeat, this was one of the Rebels’ best seasons in decades at 9-4.

Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023, Bowl Games

With four bowl games on tap for December 27, football fans will have plenty to watch mid-week. Unfortunately, that won’t include USC’s QB Caleb Williams as he’s expected to skip the bowl game.

Military Bowl Presented by GoBowling.com at 2:00 p.m. ET

Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Tulane Green Wave

Virginia Tech wanted something more than the Military Bowl, but they are expected to handle Tulane. With a record of 6-6, the Hokies were up and down this season.

Tulane ended the year in disappointing fashion with a loss to SMU in the AAC Championship. Head coach Willie Fritz is off to become the head coach of Houston, so he will not be on the sidelines for this one.

Duke’s Mayo Bowl at 5:30 p.m. ET

North Carolina Tar Heels vs. West Virginia Mountaineers

West Virginia opened as 3.5-point favorites over the Tar Heels. With Drake Maye likely opting out to prepare for the 2024 NFL Draft, North Carolina should turn to redshirt freshman Conner Harrell against the Mountaineers.

DIRECTV Holiday Bowl at 8:00 p.m. ET

Louisville Cardinals (15) vs. USC Trojans

In another matchup with a high profile QB withdrawing from their bowl game, USC’s Caleb Williams has likely played his final game in college.

The defensive-minded Louisville Cardinals, who came up short against Florida State in the ACC Championship Game, are 6.5-point favorites without Williams in the starting lineup.

TaxAct Texas Bowl at 9:00 p.m. ET

Texas A&M Aggies vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys (20)

Last month, Jimbo Fisher was dismissed from the Texas A&M program after another disappointing season. They are coming off a 42-30 loss to LSU in their regular season finale to finish the year at 7-5.

Nevertheless, the Aggies are still favored to beat an Oklahoma State team that struggled down the stretch.

Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023, Bowl Games

Thursday’s four-game slate features two ranked matchups in the Pop-Tarts and Valero Alamo bowls.

Wasabi Fenway Bowl at 11:00 a.m. ET

SMU Mustangs (24) vs. Boston College Eagles

SMU was one of the best kept secrets of college football this season. They are an entertaining offense that can put points on the board in a hurry. The AAC champs are nearly double-digit favorites over 6-6 Boston College at Fenway Park.

Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl at 2:15 p.m. ET

Rutgers Scarlet Knights vs. Miami Hurricanes

Miami went into this season with much bigger plans than the Pinstripe Bowl. However, the 7-5 Hurricanes are expected to beat 6-6 Rutgers. If Miami is motivated, they should clear Rutgers, but that might be a big ask.

Pop-Tarts Bowl at 5:45 p.m. ET

NC State Wolfpack (18) vs. Kansas State Wildcats (25)

In our first ranked matchup of bowl season, 8-4 Kansas State is a -4.5-point underdog against 9-3 NC State. These are two similar programs that should result in a solid matchup.

Which team wants it more? That is who will emerge victorious in the Pop-Tarts Bowl, formerly known as the Cheez-It Bowl.

Valero Alamo Bowl at 9:15 p.m. ET

Arizona Wildcats (14) vs. Oklahoma Sooners (12)

We are spoiled on Thursday evening with another ranked matchup. Oklahoma had a disappointing season after beating Texas in the Red River Rivalry game.

That being said, Oklahoma finished at 10-2 and earned a spot in the Alamo Bowl against an 9-3 Arizona team on the rise.

Friday, Dec. 29, 2023, Bowl Games

There are four bowl games scheduled for December 29, with the Cotton Bowl being the featured event of the evening.

TaxSlayer Gator Bowl at 12:00 p.m. ET

Clemson Tigers (22) vs. Kentucky Wildcats

Clemson is a healthy 7.5-point favorite over Kentucky in Florida’s Gator Bowl. It was a down year for Clemson, but they showed signs of their usual selves later in the season.

Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl at 2:00 p.m. ET

Oregon State Beavers (19) vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (16)

Oregon State finished this season on the skids with a 31-7 loss to Oregon in the Civil War. To make matters worse, QB D.J. Uiagalelei is transferring from the program and running back Damien Martinez was arrested on suspicion of a DUII.

Notre Dame is rightfully a 10.5-point favorite to beat Oregon State in the Sun Bowl.

AutoZone Liberty Bowl at 3:30 p.m. ET

Memphis Tigers vs. Iowa State Cyclones

Iowa State had a typical up and down season. They likely reached preseason expectations at 6-3 in the Big 12 and 7-5 overall.

Memphis is going into the Liberty Bowl after a solid 9-3 campaign. They didn’t go to the AAC Championship, but have won five of their last six games and played SMU tough two games ago.

Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic at 8:00 p.m. ET

Missouri Tigers (9) vs. Ohio State Buckeyes (7)

After suffering their third consecutive loss to Michigan, the Buckeyes are in the Cotton Bowl Classic against Missouri. Ohio State can’t overlook Missouri or they could go into the offseason suffering consecutive losses.

With Marvin Harrison Jr., among many other Buckeyes likely preparing for the NFL Draft, they could be shorthanded against the SEC’s 10-2 Missouri Tigers.

Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023, Bowl Games

The final Saturday of college football action features four bowl games including two exciting matchups in the Peach Bowl and the Orange Bowl:

Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl at 12:00 p.m. ET

Mississippi Rebels (11) vs. Penn State Nittany Lions (10)

The Peach Bowl could prove to be one of the most entertaining bowl games this season. Lane Kiffin’s dynamic QB Jaxson Dart goes up against a stingy Penn State defense on Saturday afternoon.

At 10-2, Ole Miss nearly did enough to earn a berth in the SEC Championship Game. Losses against Ohio State and Michigan put the Nittany Lions behind in the Big Ten East.

Transperfect Music City Bowl at 2:00 p.m. ET

Auburn Tigers vs. Maryland Terrapins

All Auburn had to do was hold on in the Iron Bowl against Alabama. If Auburn holds off the Crimson Tide, we would have had a different looking College Football Playoff.

After a 6-6 campaign, Auburn draws the mediocre 7-5 Maryland Terrapins in the Music City Bowl.

Capital One Orange Bowl at 4:00 p.m. ET

Georgia Bulldogs (6) vs. Florida State Seminoles (5)

In the most controversial decision of the CFP era, Florida State ends up on the outside looking in after a perfect 13-0 season. Alabama gets the nod over Florida State after beating Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.

Florida State will either be extra motivated to show the committee up, or have no drive following the snub. The Bulldogs fell from No. 1 to No. 6 in the nation due to the loss to Alabama.

Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl at 4:30 p.m. ET

Toledo Rockets vs. Wyoming Cowboys

Will anyone be watching the Arizona Bowl between Toledo and Wyoming while the Orange Bowl is on? While it may be the least watched game of bowl season, Toledo and Wyoming should be a smashmouth matchup.

Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, Bowl Games

The NCAAF keeps their traditional New Year’s slate going with five games including the College Football Playoffs:

Cheez-It Citrus Bowl at 12:00 p.m. ET

Iowa Hawkeyes (17) vs. Tennessee Volunteers (21)

Iowa and Tennessee begin the New Year’s Day slate with the Citrus Bowl. The 10-3 Hawkeyes are coming off a blowout loss in the Big Ten Championship versus Michigan, 26-0.

The Hawkeyes have to find offense from somewhere to compete with the 8-4 Volunteers. Tennessee is a tough opponent for Iowa’s anemic offense.

Vrbo Fiesta Bowl at 1:00 p.m ET

Liberty Flames (23) vs. Oregon Ducks (8)

Following their loss in the Pac-12 Championship, Oregon is rewarded with a spot in the Fiesta Bowl against Liberty. Ducks’ QB Bo Nix intends to play in the Fiesta Bowl.

As a result, Oregon is more than a two-touchdown favorite at sports betting sites. We know that Liberty will be motivated going into the Fiesta Bowl after a 13-0 campaign.

We’ll see if Oregon can match their intensity. This is one of the most interesting matchups on the board.

Rose Bowl Game (CFP Semifinal) at 5:00 p.m. ET

Alabama Crimson Tide (4) vs. Michigan Wolverines (1)

The SEC and Big Ten collide at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Alabama impressed in the SEC Championship, though have looked vulnerable at times this season.

Michigan leaned on their defense to smash through the Big Ten to bring another conference title to Ann Arbor. Can they shut down a confident Jalen Milroe and force Saban’s offense into too many mistakes?

Allstate Sugar Bowl (CFP Semifinal) 8:45 p.m. ET

Texas Longhorns (3) vs. Washington Huskies (2)

The Sugar Bowl closes out bowl season with the second CFP Semifinal matchup between Texas and Washington. Texas is a 4-point favorite, but are oddsmakers overlooking Heisman Trophy candidate Michael Penix Jr.?

Penix Jr. and Washington head into the Sugar Bowl with a Pac-12 Championship and a blemish-free record at 13-0. However, Quinn Ewers and the Longhorns have the win against Alabama on their resume.
