Argentina vs. Canada Betting Odds and Prediction (Copa America 2024 Semifinal)

The Argentina vs. Canada odds for the upcoming Copa America semifinal suggest we’re going the same result as the tournament opener between the same two sides. Argentina won by 2-0 and the best soccer betting sites expect more of the same.

Can the young Canadian squad upset the world champions? Let’s analyze the latest odds and both sides, before I share my prediction.

Argentina vs. Canada Betting Odds

The following Spain vs. France odds are courtesy of Betwhale.

BetOdds
Argentina to win-303
Canada to win+840
Draw+420
Over 2.5 goals-110
Under 2.5 goals-106

I honestly can’t remember the last time a team in the semifinal of a big international competition had +840 odds to win. This is just absurd, especially when you compare it with the Colombia vs. Uruguay odds that are as close as it gets. Yes, I know Argentina is the heavy favorite here for a good reason.

But, come on, +840 on Canada is plain outright silly. It should be closer than the price suggest, and a small wager on the underdog makes a lot of sense. This is too risky for your main bet, though, so let’s keep digging.

Argentina – What Happened Against Ecuador?

Argentina had a bit of a stumble against the Ecuadorians in the quarterfinal. It wasn’t because Messi and the co played lethargic (which is true to an extent), but because the Ecuadorians left their hearts and souls on the pitch.

Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez opened the scoring with a sweet header following Mac Allister’s defense-overarching assist. The Ecuadorians played much better in the second half, leaving Argentina with scarce goal-scoring opportunities. The underdog even had a penalty, but Valencia hit the post.

The equalizer came late, in the final seconds of the match, but didn’t mean much in the end with Argentina enduring the whole extra time and being the more composed teams in the penalty shootout.

However, take all that with a pinch of salt. Why? Because there’s no way we see Argentina play that poorly against Canada. Strategy-wise, the Canadians are a much better fir for Scaloni’s men.

The North American team is more talented than Ecuador but lacks the grit and determination of Argentina’s previous opponent.

Canada – Can They do the Impossible?

Who would’ve thought we’d see Canada in a direct fight for the grand finals, eh? Marsch’s men first did the unthinkable by qualifying for the playoffs in what was a tight and highly competitive group.

Now, they’re up against the team that has already defeated them in the opener. Canada was the inferior team in that match, but they managed to pick themselves up later on and squeeze through.

We’ve seen them portray their best against Venezuela in what ended up being a remarkable show of resilience. Unfortunately, though, I doubt it’ll be enough against this frightening Argentina team.

The World Cup winners will likely suffocate their opponents and control the ball for large periods of the game. This should severely limit Canada’s opportunities to score, just like in the opener between the same teams.

Argentina vs. Canada Prediction and Betting Pick

Despite Canada’s remarkable run to the Last 4, I doubt we’ll see anything different from the opener. Argentina completely dominated the match, keeping a clean sheet without much of a hassle.

After the scare against Ecuador, I expect to see the best from Argentina once again. Backing the favorite to simply win is not a good option, but the odds of +100 for Argentina to win to nil at +100 is exactly the type of bet I was looking for.  It offers the perfect balance of risk and reward.

The Bet
Argentina to win to nil
