They had similar results throughout most of the competition. Mexico lost the first leg to Honduras, 2-0, they came back in the second leg to win via penalty kicks. Fans won’t be thrilled with their latest prep matches for Copa America 2024.
Following a 4-0 loss to Uruguay and 3-2 to Brazil in June, confidence in their team has to be at an all-time low with the tournament approaching. It’s hard to knock a competitive effort against Brazil, but getting torched by Uruguay is unacceptable.
Mexico received more bad news recently, as Luis Malagon will miss Copa America 2024 with a muscle injury. 27-year-old Carlos Acevedo is expected to replace Malagon in goal. Also, winger Diego Lainez will not be available due to an ankle injury.

Ecuador has never been to a Copa America final, but the future appears to be bright. Could they speed up the process and shock the world with their best finish of all time at Copa America?

The Lionel Messi comparisons are probably too premature, but the kid is going to be special. He should be one of the most exciting players to watch at Copa America 2024.
This is a good time for soccer fans to learn his name before he starts his tenure in the Premier League. Fortunately, Ecuador also has a solid veteran presence with leading goal-scorer Enner Valencia.
The 34-year-old is a versatile forward with strong passing and dribbling abilities. He is a known finisher who needs to be on point for Ecuador to exceed expectations.
They would have appreciated Brighton’s Pervis Estupinan, but the left-back will be absent with an ankle injury. Estupinan underwent ankle surgery, and will also miss the start of next season’s EPL campaign. It’s a tough loss for an Ecuadorian squad that heavily relied on Estupinan.
Another player to watch is 22-year-old Moises Caicedo, who can dictate the tempo in the middle of the park and impact the game on both ends of the pitch.
Like Mexico, Ecuador is coming off a couple of losses. They were far from terrible, though, as Ecuador fell to EURO 2020 winner Italy, 2-0, and 2022 World Cup champion Argentina, 1-0. Ecuador’s defeat to Italy was their first since September 2023 versus Argentina.
They went six straight matches without a loss, which included wins over Uruguay, Bolivia, Chile, and Guatemala.

Venezuela’s best finish in a Copa America tournament is 4th, similarly to Ecuador. They did it more recently in 2011, but their squad has been misaligned before picking it back up over the last two years.
The Venezuela soccer program is on the upswing, and in my opinion, deserves more credit by the top betting apps and sites. At +500, the Venezuelans have a 16.7% implied chance to win.
That’s slightly lower than what I have in mind, especially with the possibility of an upset if Mexico doesn’t want to play. Strikers Josef Martinez and Salomon Rondon have the ability to make the rest of this group pay if they’re in lazy form.

My issue with Venezuela is their depth as opposed to Mexico and Ecuador. From what we’ve seen at the last two Copa America tournaments, the Venezuelans are a much-improved side.
However, I believe they are a couple of players away from having enough offense to compete. Since November 2023, Venezuela has scored only two goals in six matches!
They had a draw against Ecuador in a CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying match but were fortunate to avoid a loss. Venezuela is coming along and showing major strides forward. Currently, though, Mexico and Ecuador are a step ahead, so it should be tough to qualify.
Jamaica (+900) – Do The Jamaicans Have A Path To Victory?

Jamaica is back at Copa America after making their first two appearances in 2015 and 2016. Simply qualifying for the tournament is an accomplishment, but now they are looking for more in their third showing!
They clinched a spot in the Copa with a 3-2 win over Canada in November. Since then, Jamaica has played six international matches — two friendlies against Trinidad and Tobago, as well as the Concacaf Nations League in March.
Jamaica had mixed results, beating Panama and Trinidad and Tobago once, but a draw in the following match was rather uninspiring. The 3-1 loss to the United States was largely expected, though the defensive breakdowns were frustrating in an otherwise decent attempt.
Most recently, Jamaica met with the Dominican Republic and Dominica in June. Both results ended in favor of the Jamaican side in 1-0 and 3-2 wins.
Aston Villa’s Leon Bailey is by far the biggest earner on this roster. He’s not the only player from a top European league, though, with Shamar Nicholson featuring for Clermont in Ligue 1.

However, Bailey will not be at Copa America, as he continues to be in a dispute with the Jamaican soccer organization. This is a critical blow to a Jamaican team that needs Bailey on the pitch.
He’s a dynamic player and by far the most accomplished current Jamaican player. Jamaica will have to pick up his production elsewhere, which will not be an easy task.
Although Jamaica avoided a “Group of Death” scenario at Copa America, talent-wish they are trailing the rest of their opponents, especially without Bailey.
Jamaica is yet to win a point after their first two Copa America events. They backed into this tournament due to a sloppy strategy and a disheartening team effort from Canada!
The “Reggae Boyz” could earn a point or two this year but need more than Bailey’s scoring touch to do much more damage. Securing a point should be viewed as a successful Copa America 2024 for Jamaica.
Copa America 2024 Group B Predictions and Best Bets
Group B will be one of the most competitive groups at Copa America 2024. Mexico and Ecuador will go head-to-head for the top spot, while I expect Venezuela to be lingering there in the background.
Still, Group B appears like a tight fight between Mexico and Ecuador. The North American country’s inconsistent form makes them a less desirable option. They’ve shown often that putting together consecutive winning performances is a struggle!
Additionally, Mexico isn’t sending the best talent to Copa America compared to what we’ve seen in the past. Ecuador has had issues fulfilling expectations before, but Paez’s presence should provide some extra kick this time. As far as raw talent is concerned, he is the best player in this group.
