Colombia vs. Uruguay (Copa 2024 Semifinal) Betting Odds, Analysis, and Pick

Colombia and Uruguay will square off against each other in the second Copa America 2024 semifinal. The odds suggest this one is essentially a coin flip, and it’s hard to argue with that! The difference to the other Last 4 clash is huge, since the odds for Argentina vs. Canada strongly favor Messi and co.

The bookies have no clue who’s winning this one, though– Colombia and Uruguay are almost impossible to separate. If you need some help, check my analysis of the odds and both sides. When I’m done, I also share my prediction and betting pick for this Copa semifinal.

Colombia vs. Uruguay Betting Odds

The following Colombia vs. Uruguay odds are courtesy of BetUS.

BetOdds
Colombia to win+179
Uruguay to win+184
Draw+192
Colombia to qualify-110
Uruguay to qualify-120
Over 2 goals-105
Under 2 goals-115

As expected, nothing separates these two. Even the best soccer bookmakers can’t agree on the favorites. For BetUS, it’s Colombia… but only ever so slightly.

The draw is quite tempting too, especially considering how defensively these two are going to play. And, of course, we can’t forget about Uruguay’s ability to break up the play with constant pressure, tackles, and fouls.

If you’re interested in targeting a more unusual approach, BetUS offers plenty of props and side bets for this one.

Colombia – A Completely Different Challenge

Colombia absolutely trashed Panama in the last round, after a clinical performance. The team had 7 shots in total, 5 on target and 5 goals. If you think the opposition wasn’t that good, don’t forget what happened in the group stage.

Colombia was in group D with Brazil and finished first. They drew 1:1 against the favorite but were by far the better side. I’ll dare to say they played better than the Uruguayans have in their quarterfinal clash against the same opponent.

It takes no genius to realize just what a blast James Rodriguez is having in the US. He already has 3 assists to his name and will be fancying his chances against the Uruguayans. Munoz and Cordoba have been clinical, both sitting on 2 goals and an assist each.

All in all, Colombia is deservingly the slightest of favorites coming into this one. They’ve been almost perfect so far, showing superiority against Brazil (even more so than Uruguay) and trashing Panama 5:0 in the QF.

The Colombians are not in danger. They are the danger!

Uruguay – Resilience the Key to Success

The Uruguayans defeated Brazil on penalties following a match that was ugly to watch, if you want to see goals and attacking play.

As a fan of constant pressure and players looking for individual solutions to penetrate the defensive line, I was disappointed to see constant fouling and a complete destructive approach by both sides.

There were 41 fouls in 90 minutes. We’re talking about awarded fouls. More than a dozen could’ve easily been given too, but there was either an advantage or a refereeing oversight.

Can Uruguay do the same against Colombia – completely break up the play and shoot long balls for Darwin Nunez up front? They’ll most likely try, but I doubt the referee will allow it. If they start off dirty, like they did against the Brazilians, two or three quick yellow cards will sort them right out.

Plus, Uruguay won’t be able to count on Araujo who’ll have to recover for approximately 6 weeks, and Nandez who received a red card. Combine absentees with the fact Uruguay most likely won’t be allowed their disruptive gameplay to the same extent, and it looks like the team is in danger.

Colombia vs. Uruguay Prediction and Betting Pick

This one is tough to predict, but I feel Colombia has a bit more going for them. They are coming into this game after a relaxing win in the quarterfinals, while Uruguay was in a dogfight against Brazil and lost a few players.

Colombia should be fresh and ready for this one, so I like the odds of +179 for them to win in regular time.
