Tale of the Tape/Boxing Styles

Let’s break down each fighter and compare the tale of the tape before digging deeper into my Dubois vs. Parker pick:

Dubois has the upper hand on paper against Parker. He is younger than his opponent by six years and has a slight height and reach advantage. The 27-year-old doesn’t need a physical edge on Parker to win this fight, but he has it anyway.

Despite appearing in seven fewer bouts, Dubois has recorded 21 KOs compared to Parker’s 23 KOs. In any event, both are power punchers who can end the fight with one perfectly placed hook.

Dubois values his explosive punching to end fights before it goes to the judge’s scorecards. He uses a sharp jab and his 78” reach to his advantage frequently. Getting close in on Dubois due to his massive reach is difficult for most opponents.

While Dubois has huge KO power, he isn’t the most athletic or agile heavyweight. Speedier fighters can give him issues, but that shouldn’t be a problem against Parker. The 33-year-old Kiwi uses a flurry of quick punches to overwhelm his foes early.

Parker’s jab is typically on full display through the opening rounds to try and wear them out to set up a KO in the later stages. This often leaves Parker vulnerable defensively, though. If Parker wants the upset, he must find a strategy on defense to counter Dubois’ power.

Dubois is coming off a huge win over Anthony Joshua this past September in London at Wembley Stadium. The more experienced English boxer was a massive -500 favorite to win the bout, but Dubois ended the match in Round 5!

The win came three months after Dubois defeated Filip Hrgovic with a TKO in Round 8. Aside from a loss against the top heavyweight in the world, Oleksandr Usyk, Dubois hasn’t dropped a fight since losing to Joy Joyce in 2020.

Can Dubois carry the momentum from the win over Joshua to demolish Parker?

Parker has plenty of confidence heading into Saturday night’s big showdown versus Dubois. He is on a five-bout win streak and on the heels of a victory over monster Zhilei Zhang.

Zhang’s lack of mobility ended up doing him in, but he managed to score two knockdowns. The Chinese fighter is in his 40s and has struggled with stamina levels throughout his career. It was a solid win for Parker, but not necessarily impressive.

Perhaps more impressive was Parker’s unanimous decision victory over Deontay Wilder in December 2023. That said, it was another win over a boxer at the tail end of his career and out of his prime. Dubois is a step-up in class from that competition, so it should be interesting.

Boxer Strengths/Weaknesses

Lastly, before revealing my Dubois vs. Parker pick, let’s analyze each fighter’s strengths and weaknesses for this bout.

Dubois Strengths:

  • Incredible power and strength
  • Long reach
  • Iron chin
  • Strong inside game

Dubois Weaknesses:

  • Absorbs too many right hands
  • Defensive flaws exploitable
  • Head movement lazy at times
  • Struggles against speed

Parker Strengths:

  • Strong chin
  • Quick hands
  • Moves on his feet well
  • Solid head movement

Parker Weaknesses:

  • Defense suffers at times
  • Folds against constant pressure
  • Uses jab early often, tires later
  • Lack of one-punch KO power

In what Dubois lacks defensively, he makes up for it with an ironclad chin that can absorb plenty of punches. The key to beating Dubois is delivering a KO before he has an opportunity to do so, but his strong chin doesn’t allow him to go down easily.

Dubois’ incredible power gives him an upper hand in fights where he takes on more punches than his corner would like to see. In Dubois fights, it often doesn’t matter if he’s behind in punches because his one-punch KO power is always on the menu.

He is a superior boxer from the inside, and his reach advantage over Parker affords him an edge in this bout. Most importantly, Parker hates constant pressure, and that’s exactly what Dubois will present in Saudi Arabia this weekend.

Dubois vs. Parker Predictions and Betting Pick

For my Dubois vs. Parker pick, I expect the champ to wear down Parker as this match progresses. Look for Parker to go to the jab early and often. He will attack from the get-go with his jab combinations.

However, I don’t foresee it bothering Dubois too much. As is always the case, he should absorb the punches without suffering significant damage. Parker will likely drain his gas tank through the first half of the bout.

When Parker shows signs of fatigue, Dubois is likely to step in and issue notable damage to the challenger. Parker should manage to take this to the eighth or ninth round, but “Dynamite” should be able to pounce for a TKO victory.

There is little value on Dubois winning at sports betting sites, so consider the under rounds at 10.5!
