EURO 2024 Group C Odds: Can Anyone Stop England?

EURO 2024 Group C Odds: Can Anyone Stop England?

The betting odds for Group C of the 2024 EUROs paint a clear picture – England should win with ease. The best soccer sportsbooks strongly favor the country, but the rest of the group is quite unpredictable.

Denmark, Serbia, and Slovenia all have high hopes of reaching the next stage, so it should be close. Check out the latest EURO 2024 Group C betting odds and my predictions in this article!

EURO 2024 Group C Betting Odds

England is a heavy favorite to win Group C. Oddsmakers at online sportsbooks don’t expect the team to have any issues finishing atop the table in this favorable group. However, it should be an interesting race for the second qualification spot in Group C.

I explore both the winner and to qualify odds for Group C, using Bovada’s prices.

Group C Winner Odds

The following EURO 2024 group C odds are courtesy of Bovada:

TEAMODDS
England-320
Denmark+500
Serbia+750
Slovenia+1500

As a -320 favorite, England is the odds-on favorite to take the top spot in Group C. The EURO 2024 Group C odds suggest the country has a 76.2% implied chance to win. Regarded as the deepest team in the tournament, this isn’t surprising.

England’s price has improved considerably over the last two months. On April 26, the nation was a -275 favorite, so public sentiment is trending up for Gareth Southgate’s squad despite their multiple failures in major tournaments.

Denmark’s (+500) and Slovenia’s (+1500) odds to win Group C pulled back slightly in response to England’s shift. On the other hand, Serbia saw its price edge lower to +750 from +900 in April.

To Qualify From Group C Odds

TEAMODDS
England-2000
Denmark-270
Serbia-170
Slovenia+135

Naturally, England (-2000) has massive odds of advancing to the knockouts at EURO 2024. At +2000, the Englishmen have a 95.2% implied chance of making it past the group stage.

Denmark (-270) and Serbia (-170) are also expected to qualify from Group C. They both have a greater than 50% chance, while Slovenia (+135) has only a 42.6% probability.

England – Can Southgate Lead England All The Way?

England lost the EURO 2020 final against Italy and then was eliminated in the semis in the 2022 World Cup. Such results would be an enormous success for most countries, but not in this case.

The English squad has an abundance of world-class talent all over the pitch. Head coach Gareth Southgate should’ve won a trophy already with so many top players at his disposal.

England is again the main favorite this year because of the players, but I’m not sure the coach is good enough. Southgate often selects his favorites instead of the players in best form, and his tactics are questionable.

Nevertheless, with the world-class talent on this roster, Southgate can’t mess his selections up this time. He can sit back and watch his myriad of stars take Germany over.

Impact Players

Skipper Harry Kane remains England’s most important player. The striker has broken multiple records after his move to Germany and looks better than ever this season.

He will have more than enough support up front, with the likes of Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka, and Cole Palmer looking unstoppable this year. The Chelsea forward has been especially impressive recently.

On the other end of the pitch, England can rely on players like Kyle Walker and John Stones, while Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham look like the best midfield duo in the tournament. Bellingham is a player that deserves his own section in our analysis.

The Real Madrid star, fresh off a Champions League title, is the clear favorite to win the EURO 2024 Young Player of the Tournament award. He is also amongst the top challengers fsor the EURO 2024 Player of the Tournament!

Moreover, defender Luke Shaw is nearing a return after making only 12 Premier League appearances this past season.

Honestly, picking impact players for this part of my Group C betting preview was close to impossible. England has match-winners in almost every position!

Recent Performances & Team Form

In England’s first of two prep matches for EURO 2024, Southgate’s deep roster beat up the Bosnians for a 3-0 victory. It was a top-class performance in the second half, but the opening 45 minutes were concerning.

Before that one, England picked up a 3-3 draw against Belgium and a 1-0 loss to Brazil in the March slate of international friendlies. Even worse, they struggled to put away North Macedonia in a 1-1 draw in November.

England’s Last Five Results:

  • England 3 – 0 Bosnia (June 3, 2024)
  • England 2 – 2 Belgium (March 26, 2024)
  • England 0 – 1 Brazil (March 23, 2024)
  • North Macedonia 1 – 1 England (Nov. 20, 2023)
  • England 2 – 0 Malta (Nov. 17, 2023)

The Bosnian side went young with their lineup and their program is a work in progress. Also, Bellingham didn’t play, but it was a good “lift me up” for England in the second half with EURO 2024 approaching. Regardless of their sketchy international results, the talent is undeniable, and their EURO 2024 Group C odds continue to rise.

The way I see it, England is already close to securing the top spot in Group C. There is too much talent here, so I wouldn’t read too far into their earlier struggles in international friendlies. They played like a complete squad against Bosnia.

I expect something similar in the group stage of the EURO 2024 Finals. The other teams are tricky enough to get something from the favorite in a single game, but I don’t think any of them can challenge England for the top spot.

Denmark – Can The Danes Rise To The Occasion Again?

Denmark is one of the hardest teams to predict in big tournaments. On paper, the country rarely has enough talent to compete with the big boys, but the reality is usually different.

The Danes often overachieve in big tournaments, most notably winning the 1992 EUROs after failing to qualify initially and taking Yugoslavia’s place after the country was disqualified!

While Denmark has failed to reach the heights of that generation since, the team consistently delivers deep runs. The nation reached the last 4 in EURO 2020, but the 2022 World Cup was a failure and Denmark was eliminated in the group stage.

Will the team struggle early once again or can the current crop overperform?

Impact Players

Denmark’s top guns all play in the Premier League, which is a testimony to the team’s strength. They are also nicely balanced throughout the pitch.

Crystal Palace’s Joachim Andersen is the team’s defensive pillar, while Mathias Jensen, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Christian Eriksen can control the tempo in the middle of the park.

Eriksen will return to the EUROs after suffering a cardiac arrest on the pitch at EURO 2020. It’s an incredible recovery for Eriksen following the scary incident against Finland at Parken Stadium.

Up front, the Danes will rely on Rasmus Hojlund for goals. The striker is still very raw but showed plenty of potential in his debut Man United season.

You could argue that Hojbjerg and Eriksen are not at their best because they struggled for playing time at club level this year, but there’s a silver lining in there.

Both players will be fresh and eager to prove themselves and find a new club this summer. The European Championship provides an excellent opportunity to show the world how good they are once again.

Recent Performances & Team Form

The recent results have been a mixed bag for Denmark. The team kept clean sheets against the Faroe Island and Switzerland but lost against Northern Ireland.

Denmark’s Last Five Results:

  • Denmark 2 – 1 Sweden (June 5, 2024)
  • Denmark 2 – 0 Faroe Island (March 26, 2024)
  • Denmark 0 – 0 Switzerland (March 23, 2024)
  • Northern Ireland 2 – 0 Denmark (Nov. 20, 2023)
  • Denmark 2 – 1 Slovenia (Nov. 17, 2023)

Evaluating Denmark is tough, since the team doesn’t have obvious weaknesses, but you won’t find a clear strong point either. They sometimes struggle to score and controlling the tempo can be a problem.

At the same time, this is a disciplined and experienced team that can get results when it matters the most. Denmark will conclude their friendly schedule against Norway on Saturday, June 8.

Serbia – Can They Fix Their Defense?

Serbia often qualifies for big tournaments without leaving a mark in the finals. The team usually comes short at the highest stage, so the question is if Euro 2024 can be different.

I’m not optimistic based on the group, to be honest, since England should be much stronger, while Denmark and Slovenia are tricky opponents as well.

The problem for the Serbs is that they concede too many goals. Head coach Dragan Stojkovic must find a way to improve the defense for the team to reach the knockouts.

Impact Players

Serbia will once again heavily rely on Dusan Tadic for creativity. The veteran is probably not good enough to play at the highest club level at this stage of his career, but international soccer is slower and that should suit the 35-year-old playmaker.

If you add Aleksandar Mitrovic and Luka Jovic to the mix, this team can certainly find the net. Serbia will create chances and score goals, but containing the opponents could be a problem.

The team doesn’t have enough talent at the back, so I expect problems defensively.

Recent Performances & Team Form

Serbia is coming off a 2-1 loss to Austria in their second-last friendly before EURO 2024. The defense didn’t look great only two matches after getting drilled by Russia, 4-0.

Serbia’s most recent results, including the losses to Austria and Russia, highlight the source of my concerns. In addition, Serbia conceded two goals against fellow Balkan foes Bulgaria in a 2-2 draw.

Serbia’s Last Five Results:

  • Austria 2 – 1 Serbia (June 4, 2024)
  • Cyprus 0 – 1 Serbia (March 25, 2024)
  • Russia 4 – 0 Serbia (March 21, 2024)
  • Serbia 2 – 2 Bulgaria (Nov. 19, 2023)
  • Belgium 1 – 0 Serbia (Nov. 15, 2023)

Serbia did keep a clean sheet in the latest friendly against Cyprus, but that’s the only one in the team’s last ten games. Furthermore, you would expect that against a country like Cyprus. The level of the opposition Serbia is going to face at the EUROs is incomparable. All three opponents have the firepower to hurt the country, so I’m not optimistic about Serbia’s chances to progress to the next stage.

Slovenia – Teamwork Is The Key To Success

Many people are sleeping on Slovenia because the team lacks big stars, but I believe that this squad can earn a spot in the qualifiers. The expectations are fairly low, but head coach Matjaz Kek has a group that will work as hard as anyone in the tournament.

Impact Players

The undisputed key man for Slovenia is Jan Oblak. The Atletico Madrid goalkeeper is by far the most successful player on the squad, and I’ve seen him almost single-handedly win important games for club and country.

Oblak is one of the best shot-stoppers of his generation, and his only notable weakness is playing with his feet. That shouldn’t be a problem for a Slovenian side that will often defend deep and rely on counters.

The other player that deserves attention is Benjamin Sesko. The talented youngster had a very respectable maiden season for RB Leipzig this year, so he will be ready for the next level.

Some of the biggest clubs in the world are lurking around the striker, which is another testimony to his skills. There are some injury concerns for Slovenia entering EURO 2024, though.

Miha Blazic, Zan Celar, and Benjamin Verbic are questionable with injuries. Meanwhile, Sandi Lovric’s fitness levels may not be at Kek’s desired levels.

Recent Performances & Team Form

Slovenia’s recent results have been a mixed bag. The team disappointed in the draw against Malta but followed that up with a huge win against a very strong Portugal side. However, Slovenia responded recently in a satisfactory 2-1 victory over Armenia.

Slovenia’s Last Five Results:

  • Slovenia 2 – Armenia 1 (June 4, 2024)
  • Slovenia 2 – 0 Portugal (March 26, 2024)
  • Malta 2 – 2 Slovenia (March 21, 2024)
  • United States 0 – 1 Slovenia (Jan. 20, 2024)
  • Slovenia 2 – 1 Kazakhstan (Nov. 20, 2023)

It’s interesting to note that Slovenia faced Denmark on the road to the EUROs. Both games were very close, with the Scandinavians winning by a narrow margin at home and both teams drawing in Slovenia.

The two sides also finished with equal overall points to qualify for the finals. It was razor-sharp, and I expect more of the same in the EURO 2024 Finals.

The Slovenians will conclude their international friendlies slate with a meeting versus regional rival Bulgaria on Saturday, June 8.

EURO 2024 Group C Predictions and Best Bets

England is the obvious pick to win this group, simply because the team is head and shoulders above anyone else in terms of depth and quality.

The odds of -320 for the favorite are actually quite good, I expected something close to -400, so I’m taking the current price!

I see another excellent bet for group C and that’s for Slovenia to qualify. The team has a clear plan – defend in numbers, rely on Oblak to save a ton, and create a chance or two for Sesko on the other end.

Slovenia can execute against Denmark and Serbia, which should be enough to progress to the next stage. Furthermore, Slovenia will play England in the last round, which is a huge advantage.

The favorite should already have qualified by that time, so Southgate will probably make changes and rest some of his top players.

If you add the +135 odds, this looks like the value bet in Group C of the EUROs.
