Iroko (+700) is currently the favorite to win the Grand National 2025. However, with Iroko holding a 12.5% implied probability to win, there isn’t any clear top contender! Following Iroko, Intense Raffles (+800), and I Am Maximus (+800), check in with the second-shortest odds for Grand National 2025.

Intense Raffles and I Am Maximus share an 11.1% implied chance to clear the field at horse racing betting sites. The huge field in this race never tends to result in huge favorites, which means there are some great prices for this event! Also, you might notice several runners from last year.

Repeat runners amongst the favorites include Meetingofthewaters, Vanillier, and the 2024 winner, I Am Maximus. If you are interested in the latest Grand National 2025 betting odds at BetOnline, navigate to Sports > Horse Racing > Horse Futures > Grand National.

Grand National Format and Key Info

The Grand National is an annual steeplechase race held annually since 1839. The most coveted steeplechase race in the world features four miles and 2 ½ furlongs of racing on the National Course at Aintree in Liverpool on Saturday, April 5, at 4:00 BST.

The Grand National course includes 30 fences for runners to contend with. It’s a test of fitness and endurance for both horse and jockey. Horses that are best over this distance will persevere.

In 2025, the Grand National field consists of a maximum of 34 runners. The initial entry list includes 90 horses, and that is cut down to 34 for race day. Horses seven and older with a handicap of at least 120 are eligible to enter.

Grand National 2025 Top Favorites

While there aren’t any obvious favorites to win, the Grand National betting odds point to three horses that should be in contention in the stretch run! Let’s delve into the most likely winners before I share my Grand National 2025 predictions.

Iroko (+700)

The leading favorite to win the Grand National 2025 is a seven-year-old French horse, Iroko. Trained by Oliver Greenwall and Josh Guerriero, Iroko is one of the select runners in this race that can compete at more than 4 miles.

Stamina shouldn’t be a concern for Iroko, and the horse is in top form at the moment. Nevertheless, Iroko hasn’t seen the winner’s circle since 2023. He most recently won on Nov. 7, 2023, as a 149-rated runner.

Since then, Iroko has gone winless in six events. That being said, the last four events were 152-rated for Iroko, so he’s gained some more traction and respect recently. In his latest start, Iroko finished 2nd out of four runners over 2.875 miles.

Iroko has raced in two races of over three miles. The gelding finished 3rd out of 15 and 2nd out of six horses at 3.125 miles — most recently on April 12, 2024. He’s likely in his best behavior approaching a four-mile distance, so I understand the favored Grand National odds.

Also, jockey Jonjo O’Neill Jr. has been riding Iroko since 2021, so there is a lot of familiarity here! He’s only fallen out of the saddle in one race with Iroko. Nevertheless, never winning a race over three miles before is a concern for me in this marathon at Aintree.

Intense Raffles (+800)

Intense Raffles may not have as much experience as Iroko and I Am Maximus, but this horse is quickly learning how to run well. Another French horse, Thomas Gibney’s seven-year-old, is the most intriguing and fastest-rising horse on the board.

He made his debut on January 13, 2024, and has already taken keenly to steeplechase events. Note that Intense Raffles has won three of four steeplechase races in his young career.

Intense Raffles took the top spot in three consecutive assignments to open his career. That included finishing 1st out of 20 runners in a 3.625-mile start in the Irish Grand National on April 1, 2024.

He was rated as a 127 runner in February 2024 and skyrocketed to 151 for his latest outing on Feb. 25, 2025. Also note that Intense Raffles is one of only four horses in the field that have won a Class 1 race.

Despite placing 2nd out of six horses, Intense Raffles was less than a length behind Nick Rockett at the wire in the 3.125-mile race. He seems to prefer longer distances, so the Grand National should play to his strengths. This isn’t a horse to discard for your Grand National picks!

I Am Maximus (+800)

After winning a thrilling Grand National in 2024, I Am Maximus returns looking to repeat at Aintree. The last horse to win back-to-back races was Only Tiger in 2019. He remains the only runner to successfully win consecutive races in a race that dates back to the early 1800s!

History is against I Am Maximus, but Only Tiger proved it can be done if the form is right. The race has changed since the 1800s, and even over the last five years, so repeat winners may be more common. Last year, I backed I Am Maximus to win at +800 odds, and it clearly was the right side.

Should we go back to the window with I Am Maximus? There is a compelling argument to be made on W P Mullins’ nine-year-old. He has won six of 17 career starts — three of 10 wins were steeplechase entries. I Am Maximus is a winner in four of his previous eight events, including the 2024 Grand National.

In his latest start, I Am Maximus was rated at 169, which puts him ahead of the other contenders at Aintree. However, I Am Maximus isn’t entering with the most momentum. He was pulled up on Dec. 28 in a three-mile event and recently went 8th out of 10 runners over three miles.

In any event, I Am Maximus has shown he can win over four miles and on this very course just one year ago. He is certainly a short-lister for your best Grand National 2025 bets!

Grand National 2025 Best Sleepers

Before locking in my top 2025 Grand National prediction, let’s find a couple of longshots with a shout this Saturday:

  1. 1. Kandoo Kid (+2000)

My numbers have Kandoo Kid rated higher than a +2000 horse, so this is one of the best Grand National upset bets. Kandoo Kid has gradually progressed from a 125 rating in 2023 to a 152 rating in his recent assignment on March 1.

Kandoo Kid has some steeplechase experience, with a win over 3.25 miles two races ago on Nov. 30, 2024. He should be good to run for over four miles in the Grand National. If I were setting the Grand National 2025 lines, I’d probably have him priced at +1400 to +1200.

In short, the value on Kandoo Kid is tilted in your favor at Aintree Racecourse!

  2. 2. Beauport (+2800)

Here, we have another horse that isn’t priced in the right spot. Currently, oddsmakers give Beauport a 3.4% implied probability to win the Grand National. I don’t know about Beauport getting +2800 odds — he should be closer to +2000 and might drop there by post time.

Beauport has a solid history with 11 steeplechases on his resume, including long distances. On March 16, 2024, Beauport beat 11 rivals over 4.25 miles by roughly two lengths! Two races later, Beauport cleared for a 31-length victory at 3.875 miles.

With a 154 rating, Beauport has the credentials and endurance to hang with the top contenders at Aintree. At +2800, Beauport is one of the best horse racing betting tips for the Grand National.

Grand National 2025 Predictions and Betting Pick

Now, let’s analyze my top Grand National pick to win this weekend at Aintree! The way I see it, Intense Raffles is a horse that keeps coming on and could very well reach his peak when post time calls.

He’s shown incredible improvement and gains since his first start in January 2024. Intense Raffles was at his best over his longest distance, too. Last April, Intense Raffles made it look easy over 3.625 miles in the Irish Grand National. Most importantly, it appeared that the horse had more to give and wasn’t short of fuel in the gas tank.

I highly respect I Am Maximus’ repeat bid at Aintree — he should be in contention again. However, Intense Raffles could be reaching his peak at the perfect time, while I Am Maximus might be reverting slightly.

Along with Beauport and Bandoo Kid as longshots, Intense Raffles is a strong option for your Grand National 2025 best bets!
