Grand Theft Auto 6 Trailer, Release Date, Leaked News and Odds

Ten years following GTA 5’s successful release, diehard fans have been waiting patiently for the successor of the award-winning, open-world video game. Although, video game publisher Rockstar Games has not announced an official release date for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6, we now have an idea as to when the game will come out thanks to the first official trailer.

On December 4, 2023, the first Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer dropped. Not only does the GTA 6 trailer give us a glimpse into the madness that awaits, but it also gives us an estimated timeframe as to when the game will be released¹.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Trailer

On December 4, 2023, Rockstar Games released an official Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer to the delight of millions of GTA fans around the world. The trailer is roughly 90 seconds long and features Lucia, the first female protagonist of the franchise.

The trailer would go on to tease a story right out of Bonnie and Clyde as Lucia teams up with an unnamed male to commit crimes. Lucia can be heard saying “the only way we’re gonna get through this is by sticking together and being a team.“

To the delight of many longtime GTA fans, the dramatic action takes place in Vice City which is based on Miami. This is the first time that the GTA franchise has used Vice City since 2002.

As you can see from the trailer, there will be daring heists, parties, drag racing, car chases, lots of twerking, alligators and social media aspects like TikTok. This exciting Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer also features Tom Petty’s song “Love is a Long Road”.

Rockstar Games announced in November that a trailer would arrive in early December². On December 1, Rockstar then revealed that the trailer would arrive on December 5. However, the popular gaming company pushed up the GTA 6 trailer release due to leaks.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Leak

The most credible Grand Theft Auto 6 leak was courtesy of a 17-year-old hacker. On September 18, 2022, there was a leak, which allegedly included 90 videos of GTA 6 gameplay footage on the GTAForums³.

The GTAForums user shared, “It’s possible I could leak more data soon, GTA 5 and GTA 6 source code and assets, GTA 6 testing build.”

Following the leaked Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay footage, Rockstar confirmed on X, formerly known as Twitter, that someone had breached their servers. It ultimately led to London Police arresting a 17-year-old boy, Arion Kurtaj, from Oxfordshire, England⁴. It also turns out that some of the leaked information was accurate.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Release Date

Currently, an exact Grand Theft Auto 6 release date has not been officially revealed. However, as you can see in the trailer, Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released in 2025. When you take this latest news and combine it with previous statements, we get a better idea as to when GTA 6 could be released in 2025.

In an earnings call with investors in August, Take-Two Interactive, the company that owns Rockstar Games, confirmed that they are expecting a significant infusion of earnings between April 2024 and March 2025.

Take-Two Interactive’s Chief Financial Officer, Lainie Goldstein, commented that the company is well-positioned for the future⁵:

“We are confident that the actions our teams are taking this year are preparing us for a strong trajectory of growth,” said Goldstein. “Through our collective efforts, we continue to believe that we are positioning our business for a significant inflection point in fiscal 2025 that will culminate in us delivering new record levels of operating performance next year and beyond.”

The revelation from Take-Two Interactive likely coincides with Grand Theft Auto 6. The company is scheduled to publish other games during this timeframe, but none bigger than GTA 6.

Following Goldstein’s comments, the Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. stock skyrocketed from $125.02 to $136.52. With $8 billion in bet bookings projected from the publisher, investors scooped the stock up while it was at roughly $125⁶. Currently, Take-Two Interactive Inc.’s stock is hovering around the $140 mark⁷.

With the announcement of a major cash infusion that spans into Q1 of 2025, and the GTA 6 trailer stating that the game will be released in 2025, it’s not a far leap to believe that this game will come out soon after the calendars change over to 2025.

GTA 6 Release Date Odds

Prior to the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer blowing up social media, Bovada had listed odds on when the game would be released. Unfortunately, those odds have been removed following the trailer coming out on December 4, 2023. The game was favored to be released in the second half of 2024 (+190). As we now know, that won’t be happening.

A Grand Theft Auto 6 release date in the first half of 2025 saw odds of +200, which was the second odds-on favorite. We’ll update this GTA 6 wager once online betting sites like Bovada list new odds.

To Be A Character In Grand Theft Auto 6

It is worth noting that none of the characters in the 90 videos that were hacked and released last year, nor the GTA 6 trailer, are included in this bet at Bovada.

According to the Grand Theft Auto 6 leak, Jason and Lucia are the two main protagonists in the game. It’s the first time there is expected to be a female lead in the GTA series. Other characters include Sam, Dre, Kai, Wyman, Billy, Tit, Zach, and RB Shaw, according to the leak⁸. As you can see in the GTA 6 trailer, Lucia will be heavily featured. But, will Jason or other previous characters appear in the game?

The leaked footage suggested that the series is going back to Vice City for Grand Theft Auto 6. The GTA 6 trailer confirmed this leaked information as we see a big sign for Vice City and some familiar sights and sounds of the popular location.

Tommy Vercetti was the main character in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Vercetti making an appearance would make sense, then?

Not exactly. Ray Liotta, who voiced Vercetti, died in his sleep last year in the Dominican Republic⁹. Rockstar Games is not going to be interested in hiring a different voiceover actor for his character.

Besides, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto 6 are set in different universes. There should be a tribute or Easter egg dedicated to Vercetti somewhere in the game, but he is not expected to be a character.

The main protagonists from GTA 5, Franklin Clinton and Michael De Santa, were not identified in the leaked footage or the trailer. At -2000, Clinton is the likeliest character to be in Grand Theft Auto 6. He has an implied probability of returning to the franchise of 95.2 percent.

De Santa follows Clinton as the next likeliest at -400 odds. He carries an implied probability of 80 percent. Neither carries great value, with Clinton a non-starter for a bet at -2000.

If you want to place a bet on GTA characters returning for Grand Theft Auto 6, De Santa is likely the best bet, though. In his mid-50s, De Santa will be alive in modern-day Vice City. The retired bank robber turned film producer fits into the timeline from ten years ago.

Nevertheless, De Santa will not be a main fixture in the new GTA. It’s possible that he is involved in a side mission, perhaps as a successful movie producer. Seeing De Santa’s progress from being a career criminal to a family man with a successful filmmaker is intriguing.

Look for De Santa to make a cameo on a side mission. Clinton should appear somewhere in the game, too. As far as the other GTA characters from this list, it seems highly unlikely that they are coming back for GTA 6.

Who Will Be The Next Celebrity Character Cast In Grand Theft Auto?

Several celebrities have made appearances in previous installments of Grand Theft Auto. Samuel L Jackson, Ricky Gervais, Phil Collins, and Dr. Dre are a handful of notable names.

In fact, Dr. Dre released six new songs exclusively on Grand Theft Auto Online¹⁰. There could be more music released by Dr. Dre for Grand Theft Auto 6 as well.

Out of the six celebrity characters available to bet on for this bet at Bovada, 50 Cent is favored at +225 odds. Eminem was close to starring in a GTA movie, but Rockstar reportedly rejected a movie deal roughly two decades ago¹¹.

It is unlikely that Rockstar Games and Eminem will engage in business for GTA 6. We are sure that Logan and Jake Paul would jump at the opportunity to be in the game, but would Rockstar Games approach them?

Drake makes plenty of sense, though he has been busy with the launch of his new album. Now, 50 Cent would naturally fit into the urban environment of Vice City.

In 1994, 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, was arrested for selling crack cocaine to an undercover police officer. Only weeks later, Jackson’s house was raided and police found heroin, crack cocaine, and a pistol¹².

He would go on to be one of the most well-known rappers of all time and a successful businessman since then. Earlier this year, 50 Cent sent GTA fans into a frenzy when he posted an image on his Instagram account of the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City logo.

It turned out to be a promotion for a new original series with Lionsgate Television and Paramount Television Studios called Vice City¹³. So, we know that it will not be 50 Cent. He is busy with a TV series, ironically called Vice City.

So, that leaves us with DJ Khaled? DJ Khaled making an appearance in a side quest could be in the works, as unlikely as it seems. At +2200 odds, DJ Khaled is the last man standing out of these six celebrities.
