Devin Haney vs. Regis Prograis Odds
The following Devin Haney vs. Regis Prograis odds are courtesy of BetUS.
Fighter | Moneyline | Total Rounds |
---|---|---|
Devin Haney | -390 | Over 10.5 rounds (-600) |
Regis Prograis | +290 | Under 10.5 rounds (+400) |
Despite being the champion, Prograis (+290) is the underdog heading into this fight. He is the smaller fighter and has the worse career record by one fight.
Haney (-390) is a heavy favorite to claim gold in this new division. He is moving up from lightweight for this contest. The oddsmakers at BetUS have the fight favored to go over 10.5 rounds (-600).
Devin Haney’s Recent Fights
It is easy to see why oddsmakers and the betting public are favoring Haney in his attempt to claim super lightweight gold. He is a perfect 30-0 in his professional career, with 15 KOs.
Haney began his professional career at the age of 17 in Tijuana, Mexico. He won three of his first four fights by TKO before making his US debut in April 2016. Haney had 14 fights in less than two years en route to winning the WBC youth lightweight title in March 2017.
Since then, Haney has continued to collect gold everywhere he has fought. Haney’s list of championships also include:
- USBA lightweight title
- IBF North American lightweight title
- WBC International lightweight title
- WBO Inter-Continental lightweight title
- WBA International lightweight title
- WBC lightweight title
- WBA (Super) lightweight title
- IBF lightweight title
- WBO lightweight title
- The Ring lightweight title
Haney’s most recent wins came against some of the top fighters in the lightweight division. He defeated George Kambosos Jr. in consecutive fights to win and then retain the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles.
In his last outing, Haney earned a unanimous decision win over Vasiliy Lomachenko in May of this year. Since beating Lomachenko, Haney has vacated his lightweight titles so he can move up to 140 pounds and challenge Prograis.
Regis Prograis’ Recent Fights
Stepping into the ring with Haney this Saturday is the WBC super lightweight champion Regis Prograis (29-1). The champion has just one loss in his professional career. Prograis was defeated by Josh Taylor in October 2019 via majority decision.
Other than that sole loss, Prograis has looked largely unstoppable. He has earned 24 of his 29 career wins by knockout. Prograis has knocked out four of the five opponents he has faced since losing to Taylor.
Prograis’ power has never been questioned during his career. He started his professional career with a first-round KO in his debut. Prograis went on to win 12 of his first 14 fights via KO.
Like Haney, Prograis has collected a lot of hardware during his professional career. Some of the belts Prograis has won during include:
- NABF light welterweight title
- WBC interim welterweight title
- WBA light welterweight title
Prograis lost his WBA light welterweight to Taylor in October 2019. Since then, he has gained more gold by beating Jose Zepeda. The 11th-round KO earned Prograis the WBC light welterweight title.
So far, Prograis has just one successful title defense of his WBC belt. He defeated Danielito Zorrilla in June via split decision.
Haney vs. Prograis Prediction
Stats | Devin Haney | Regis Prograis |
---|---|---|
Age | 25 | 34 |
Height | 5â8â | 5â8â |
Reach | 71â | 67â |
Total Fights | 30 | 30 |
Record | 30-0 | 29-1 |
Knockouts | 15 | 24 |
Haney is moving up in weight, but he is still the bigger fighter. Haney will have a four-inch reach advantage over the champion.
The challenger is also nearly 10 years younger than Prograis. Haney has been the more active fighter, too, with this being his 11th fight since the start of 2019. It is hard to count the champion out, though.
Prograis has repeatedly proven that he has the power to knock out anyone he steps into the ring with. He also has extra motivation heading into this fight after a disappointing outing in his last appearance. Prograis needs to retain his belt on Saturday if he wants to continue his march back to the top of the division.
I will not be surprised if Haney picks up the win in his debut at 140 pounds. However, I am picking Prograis to successfully defend his belt in this one. He is the champion and offers better value at +290.
Haney vs. Prograis Prop Bets
In addition to betting on the winner, you can also make prop bets for Haney vs. Prograis. BetUS has a great selection of side wagers available for this exciting title fight.
Haney vs. Prograis Fight Outcome
- Regis Prograis to win by KO, TKO, or DQ (+500)
- Regis Prograis to win by decision (+750)
- Devin Haney to win by KO, TKO, or DQ (+600)
- Devin Haney to win by decision (-225)
- Draw (+1600)
BetUS has a prop bet available for the specific method of victory in the Haney vs. Prograis fight. The option with the shortest odds is for Haney to win via decision (-225).
Haney proved during his win over Lomachenko that he can out-point the best in the business. He has won eight straight fights by decision or technical decision.
Continuing his winning streak this weekend will not be easy, though. Haney is moving up in weight and has not proven that his knockout power will translate to a heavier weight class. That could lend to a decision win, but it could also cost him against the champion.
Prograis, on the other hand, will likely be hunting for a KO in this fight. I think his power will be his best weapon against Haney. Oddsmakers also have a Prograis win by stoppage listed at +500, compared to +750 for a Prograis decision.
Winning Round
- Rounds 1-3 (+2800)
- Rounds 4-6 (+1200)
- Rounds 7-9 (+750)
- Rounds 10-12 (+850)
- Fight to go the distance (-450)
BetUS also has this prop bet available, which lets you pick the round the fight ends in. Based on the current odds, the most likely option is for Devin Haney vs. Regis Prograis to go the distance (-450).
However, as I mentioned above, I believe that Prograis will be able to stop the undefeated Haney inside 12 rounds. So, the question is when will Prograis finish him off?
I believe Haney will put up a fight and at least last until the latter half of the match. The “rounds 7-9” option has the second-best odds in this bet and would be my pick for this wager. That should give Prograis enough time to wear Haney down and land the knockout blow.
Devin Haney vs. Regis Prograis Total Rounds
- Over 10.5 rounds (-600)
- Under 10.5 rounds (+400)
Sports betting sites have this fight listed at over/under 10.5 total rounds. The over option is available at -600 odds, while the under is listed at +400.
Haney is a heavy favorite to win via decision. So, it makes sense that the over is also a heavy favorite in this total rounds bet. I do not see this fight lasting the full 12 rounds, though, given both fighters’ history of KO wins.
Between the two of them, Prograis and Haney have combined for 39 KOs in their 60 career fights. Haney has not knocked out an opponent since 2019, but he is still dangerous. Prograis has four knockouts during his current five-fight win streak.
A motivated Prograis is a dangerous opponent. I think he gets the stoppage win this weekend in between rounds seven and nine. So, I would take the under in this total rounds bet.
