Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois Odds: Shock on the Cards?

The Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois odds for the upcoming fight show only one potential winner – AJ! The best boxing betting sites expect an easy victory for the favorite, but I’m sure his opponent will be eager to prove them wrong.

The fight will take place in front of a solid crowd for the IBF heavyweight world title at Wembley Stadium on Sept. 21. Continue reading for the latest odds, a breakdown of each boxer, and my Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois predictions!

Joshua vs. Dubois Betting Odds and Predictions

The following Joshua vs. Dubois odds are courtesy of BetOnline:

  • Anthony Joshua (-500)
  • Daniel Dubois (+350)
  • Over 7.5 rounds (-115)
  • Under 7.5 rounds (-115)

Joshua (-500) is a heavy favorite to defeat Dubois for the IBF heavyweight title. At -500, he has an overwhelming implied probability of 83.3% to beat his opponent on Sept. 21.

Despite Dubois being the IBF champ, public opinion is low on the native of Greenwich. Joshua is certainly the better boxer on paper and passes the eye test over Dubois. However, is the underdog the better value play at online sportsbooks in this spot?

Tale of the Tape/Boxing Styles

Let’s break down each fighter and compare the tale of the tape before digging deeper into my Joshua vs. Dubois best bets:

The physical characteristics of both fighters are fairly even, with Joshua having a slight edge with his height. Joshua and Dubois both figure to be roughly 250 pounds for the bout at Wembley Stadium.

The veteran’s reach is the most telling feature of the tale of the tape! He holds a four-inch advantage over the champion and knows how to fully use it to his benefit.

Dubois is the much younger competitor entering the ring. At only 26 years old, he is eight years younger than Joshua. However, Oleksandr Usyk is 37, while Tyson Fury is 36.

I’m not so certain being considerably younger is the upper hand some people believe it is in the heavyweight division.

Fighter Form

Below, find how well Joshua and Dubois have fared in the boxing ring recently. With both coming off impressive wins, we’ll see how things play out on Sept. 21!

Apr. 1, 2023vs. Jermaine Franklin Jr.W (Unanimous Decision)
Aug 20, 2022vs. Oleksandr UsykL (Split Decision)

Joshua is undefeated since losing to Usyk two years ago. It wasn’t total domination for Usyk in that fight. The 34-year-old Joshua had a difficult time getting his timing right against the active Usyk.

He didn’t look in sync as he typically does, but that is the case for every heavyweight against the Ukrainian. “AJ” responded with four consecutive victories.

Joshua didn’t run into any issues in these bouts against inferior opponents. In his latest outing, he ended former UFC champ Francis Ngannou’s night in the second round with a thunderous KO!

Ngannou battled hard against Fury earlier but stood no chance against Joshua’s speed in March. If Joshua brings a similar performance to Wembley Stadium, Dubois will have a long night.

Dubois has a similar resume to Joshua recently, in the sense that his only loss is to Usyk. It just goes to show how dominant the Ukrainian has been over the last two years. He’s defeated Joshua, Dubois, and Fury!

Dubois had a much tougher time against Usyk than Joshua. Dubois was clocked to send the big man tumbling in Round 8. Usyk, who looked like he could have gone another 10 rounds, ended the fight in the following round.

Dubois came back four months later to TKO Jarrell Miller in the 10th and final round. The 6’5” fighter followed up with a win via TKO over Filip Hrgovic due to a doctor’s stoppage in Round 8 due to cuts above his eyes.

It was a satisfactory win for Dubois, but I wanted to see better defense! The Joshua vs. Dubois odds certainly reflect this much.

Fighter Strengths/Weaknesses

Lastly, before revealing my Joshua vs. Dubois predictions, let’s analyze each fighter’s strengths and weaknesses for this bout.

Joshua Strengths:

  • One punch KO power
  • Incredible strength and athleticism
  • Patient fighter
  • Great combos

Joshua Weaknesses:

  • Weak head movement
  • Stiff on his feet at times
  • Mediocre defense
  • Gas tank

Dubois Strengths:

  • Strong fundamentals
  • Takes chances
  • Power puncher

Dubois Weaknesses

  • Below-average defense
  • Absorbs too many punches
  • Could have stronger chin
  • Head movement needs major work

Joshua and Dubois share similar strengths and weaknesses. However, everything Joshua does is a notch above Dubois. Conversely, Dubois’ weaknesses check in well below Joshua’s.

For instance, Joshua isn’t known for having the best head movement. He often gets caught getting too lazy with his head against others who are quicker than him. A fighter like Usyk can pick up on those issues, but I don’t suspect Dubois can.

Additionally, Dubois’ defense is more than questionable. Despite beating Hrgovic, he was caught with multiple clean shots in every round. Fortunately, his toughness carried him through the fight, but Hrgovic located several holes to exploit.

Joshua vs. Dubois Prediction and Betting Pick

I think we are going to find out why Dubois is a good fighter and why Joshua is a great fighter in this bout. The underdog is not going to hold up and go the distance with Joshua if he uses the same strategy as his last fight.

Joshua has too much power and KO potential to allow Dubois to get away with sub-par defense. It isn’t a one-off thing for Dubois, either. He has survived in past fights because he’s been the stronger offensive fighter.

However, that isn’t going to be the case against Joshua! Expect Joshua to be the aggressor and find a hole to KO Dubois in Round 8 to 10. I’m not advising paying -500 on the moneyline, but Joshua by KO/TKO is a solid option.

Currently, Joshua’s KO/TKO odds are not on the board, so continue to monitor the markets. In the meantime, I like the -115 available for the fight to go under 7.5 rounds.

Both fighters are power punchers with questionable defense, so the odds for this one are pretty solid.
