LeBron vs. Stephen A. Smith Boxing Odds – Could the Beef Escalate in a Ring?

TheLeBron James vs. Stephen A. Smith odds emerged as the four-time MVP is embroiled in a beef with the longtime ESPN media personality. The two met face-to-face courtside at a basketball game, but could it spill over to the boxing ring?

I’ll examine the LeBron James vs. Stephen A. Smith odds for this hypothetical fight, and give you my prediction for who would walk out of the ring with their hand raised in victory!

LeBron James-5000
Stephen A. Smith+1000

To absolutely no one’s surprise, the LeBron James vs. Stephen A. Smith odds are tilted heavily towards the NBA superstar. James is favored at -5000, which gives him an implied probability of 98% to win a potential boxing match.

That leaves Smith, ESPN’s marquee media personality, with odds of +1000 at boxing betting sites. Smith has an implied chance to win of 9.1%, which might be too high, unless he’s allowed to fight dirty or use weapons.

LeBron James – Fighting for His Family’s Pride

This beef started when James confronted Smith at a Lakers’ game about comments Smith made about his son, Bronny, who also plays on the Lakers.

Smith then walked back his comments a little and said he understood where James was coming from, as a father. However, Smith continued to drag the situation out, going on various podcasts and using his shows. James guested on The Pat McAfee Show (which is also on ESPN) to comment further on the matter after Smith went on Gilbert Arenas’ podcast.

“It started off with, ‘I didn’t want to address it, I wasn’t going to address it’. But since the video came out, I feel the need to address it.’ M——f——, are you kidding me? If there was one person that couldn’t wait until the video had dropped so you could address it, it was your ass. Like, seriously?”

Neither James nor Smith is a boxer, so it’s challenging to analyze this from a boxing perspective. But James, who is in his 22nd NBA season at 40 years old, is listed at 6’9”, 250 pounds. He might be larger than that, weight-wise. However, James is still one of the top athletes in the NBA, even though he has lost a step.

He’ll also be fighting for a purpose: to defend the honor of his family. Much has been made about his son, Bronny, being on the Lakers, and James would step into the ring with a fire under him. I don’t think this fight would happen, especially while James is still playing. However, after he’s retired, maybe James would do it, and any money could go to charity.

I had predicted when I first heard about the LeBron James vs. Stephen A. Smith odds that James would be favored at -1000, generously. The line is set at -5000, and honestly, it could be higher.

Stephen A. Smith – Would SAS Get Badly Hurt?

Smith went on Gilbert Arenas’ podcast, Gil’s Arena, to give his thoughts on the situation.

But he took it to the next level on his ESPN show, First Take.

Smith also said:

“Let me state for the record that while we bring up that, let me assure you it wouldn't have gone down like that. I would have gotten my a** kicked, because had that man put his hands on me, I would have immediately swung on him. Immediately. That, I'm not going to tolerate. But I knew he wasn't going to do something like that.”

Smith’s entire career has been based on making gigantic statements, but that’s not to say he’s bad at his job. He has been in the game for a long time, and many media members vouch for his credentials. However, since Smith has been on ESPN, he has cornered the “hot take” market and says countless outlandish things. He has been called out by other athletes, notably Kevin Durant.

James posted a picture of Smith with a boxing trainer, so I know Smith does that. He is listed as 6’1” on IMDB, but Smith doesn’t look more than 180 pounds. Even if he is 200 pounds, that’s at least 50 pounds fewer than James.

If I were Smith, I would put this beef to rest. However, it’s good for his ratings, which is all he seems to care about. But if this potential fight were to happen, I don’t think it would go well for him. The LeBron James vs. Stephen A. Smith odds have him priced at +1000, but that should be much, much higher.

LeBron James vs. Stephen A. Smith Prediction and Betting Pick

Again, I don’t know if LeBron James can even fight. However, he’ll have nine inches, at least 50 pounds, and a considerable gap in athleticism over Smith. He would also be fighting for his son and his family name, so James would enter the ring with something to prove.

I believe it would look something like an episode of “Martin”, when Martin Lawrence fought Thomas “Hitman” Hearns, a former five-weight champion.

I would absolutely love to see this, as would plenty of athletes that Smith has talked about in the media. It wouldn’t last more than two rounds, and I think I’m being generous to Smith. Obviously, you shouldn’t bet on James at -5000 as there is no value at all in doing so. But I would back the NBA star in my LeBron James vs. Stephen A. Smith predictions.
