Now that I’ve made 2024 Sweet 16 predictions for every game, let’s delve into the top bets on the board.

Clemson Tigers (+7) vs. Arizona Wildcats

Although the Clemson Tigers can’t be considered a Cinderella team, there aren’t many March Madness brackets that have the No. 5 reaching the Elite Eight. Even going to the Sweet 16 was a reach for many college basketball fans.

Nevertheless, Clemson has gotten hot at the perfect time. They are coming off an impressive 72-64 win to knock off the No. 3 Baylor Bears. Chase Hunter had a big performance, with 20 points and six assists in the backcourt.

In the opening round, the Tigers were a small underdog to the lower-seeded New Mexico Lobos. It wasn’t a competitive game, as Clemson cleared New Mexico for a 77-56 win.

Clutch guard play is incredibly handy this time of the year, and the Tigers have it with Hunter. Before scoring 20 points on Baylor, he put up 21 points and six assists against New Mexico. Arizona has the superior athletes, but they do tend to look lost at times on defense.

Clemson vs. Arizona Betting Pick

Statistically, the Wildcats have one of the worst defenses of teams remaining in the NCAA Tournament. They are 154th in the nation, with an average of 71.9 points conceded per game1.

With Hunter red-hot from the field and Clemson moving the ball well, the Tigers should give Arizona’s defense a tough time.

I do not feel comfortable laying seven points on Arizona’s defense — not with Clemson gaining confidence offensively. This should be a high-scoring matchup. The Over/Under at 152 points appears accurate.

Consider backing Clemson to cover the spread as an underdog for one of your best Sweet 16 bets.

The Bet
Clemson Tigers +7

Tennessee Volunteers (-2.5) vs. Creighton Bluejays

The Tennessee Volunteers scraped past the Texas Longhorns in a defensive struggle in the Round of 32. Neither team was shooting the ball particularly well from the field, but Tennessee prevailed by a score of 62-58 in a nailbiter.

Naismith College Player of the Year finalist, Dalton Knecht, didn’t have a pretty game offensively, as he shot a miserable 5-18 from the field and 1-8 from three. He hit a big three-pointer from the corner in the second half but was otherwise well off his game.

Overall, Tennessee finished with a 33.8% field goal percentage with just three conversions from deep. That usually isn’t enough for a win, but the defense was active all game, forcing Texas into 17 turnovers2!

It’s unusual for the Volunteers to struggle as much as they did from the field. In 2023-24, they’ve averaged 79.1 points per game on 51.2% shooting3. The open shots just weren’t falling for them.

The Volunteers were fortunate to get out of that game alive, but now they have a favorable matchup against Creighton in the Sweet 16. The Bluejays are 88th in the NCAA, with an average of 69.5 points allowed per game.

Creighton needed double overtime to end Oregon’s tournament with an 86-73 victory. The Ducks’ Jermaine Couisnard and N’Faly Dante had big games with 32 and 28 points, but the next round will be very tough for this team.

Tennessee vs. Creighton Betting Pick

The Longhorns ruined a great opportunity to catch Tennessee on a bad night offensively. However, the Vols survived, and I don’t foresee them having such a poor shooting night in back-to-back games.

For Creighton, they are unfortunately likely going to witness Knecht have a big bounce-back performance. The shots that weren’t falling against Texas should be there for the star and his teammates in the Sweet 16.

As a short favorite, Tennessee at -2.5 is worth considering as one of your top NCAA Sweet Sixteen 2024 picks.

The Bet
Tennessee Volunteers -2.5

Marquette Golden Eagles (-6.5) vs. NC State Wolfpack

The Marquette Golden Eagles square off against the lowest-seeded team remaining in the NCAA Tournament. The No. 11 seed NC State Wolfpack pulled away from the Texas Tech Red Raiders for an 80-67 win to set up an unlikely Round of 32 matchup versus the Oakland Golden Grizzlies.

Oakland pressed NC State to their limits in a 79-73 final in overtime. It was a tightly contended matchup throughout, with NC State making a couple of more shots than the Grizzlies. The Jack Gohlke magic ran out, but now the Wolfpack must deal with another special player.

A healthy Tyler Kolek will be leading the Golden Eagles in the Sweet 16. The guard has led Marquette with 19.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 11 assists per game4. The talented senior is making all the right decisions with the ball in his hands.

Not only is Kolek scoring the ball, but he’s finding open teammates with ease. NC State is unlikely to keep pace if the star is playing as well as he did against Western Kentucky and Colorado. The Wolfpack are not athletic enough to handle Kolek and Marquette at their best.

NC State ranks 71st in the NCAA with an offensive efficiency rating of 1.078. Conversely, Marquette is 35th with a 1.106 offensive efficiency rating5.

Marquette vs. NC State Betting Pick

NC State looked sharp in the tournament opener, and then they received a favorable matchup in the Second Round. However, their Sweet 16 opponent looks formidable.

Kolek missed some games down the stretch due to an oblique injury, but he’s been in great shape during the NCAA Tournament. Marquette is a different team with Kolek at the controls.

Marquette has a strong NCAA NET ranking of 14th, while NC State is down in 63rd. Several of the NIT Tournament teams rank higher than the Wolfpack in the NET metrics, which measures several key variables6.

I am confident in Kolek running circles around NC State in this one. With that in mind, Marquette is a sharp selection for your March Madness 2024 Sweet 16 betting picks.

The Bet
Marquette Golden Eagles -6.5
