American League-115

The American League are slight favorites for the All-Star Game, which will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. The first pitch will be thrown at 8:20 Eastern Time at Globe Life Field, the home of the Texas Rangers, in Arlington. You can watch the entire thing on Fox.

The last 10 All-Star Games have been decided by three runs or fewer, with two games going to extra innings. It’s an All-Star Game, so both of these lineups are stacked. When examining the MLB All-Star game odds, don’t forget that all these players will only be playing for an inning or two, at most. So, you won’t see Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees taking four at-bats; he might get two.

The National League won last year’s event by a 3-2 score. The overall record is now 47-44 for the American League, along with two draws in 1961 and 2002. Let’s see what the teams have to offer in 2024!

2024 MLB All-Star Lineups Analysis

Philadelphia 1B Bryce Harper was selected for his eighth All-Star selection and led the National League team in All-Star voting. Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers were also named to their eighth All-Star team. However, Betts will miss out this time around because of a broken hand.

Shohei Ohtani has bounced back after a preseason gambling scandal, and the DH is hitting .314 with 28 homers and 65 RBIs for the stacked Dodgers. Fellow DH, Marcell Ozuna of Atlanta, is next in home runs with 23.

The National League has a fantastic lineup from top to bottom, and once the starters exit, there is still pop in the lineup. Freeman, Teoscar Hernandez of the Dodgers, and Pete Alonso of the New York Mets will step in.

Keeping with the youth movement (there are 19 players 27 years old or younger), there are two athletes that will get the excitement going. Cincinnati SS Elly De La Cruz leads the majors with 45 stolen bases, and has added 15 homers and 40 RBIs. He’ll be ready to go for his first All-Star Game.

The National League starting pitcher hasn’t been decided yet, but 22-year-old Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates could get the nod. He is the first #1 overall pick to be make the All-Star team the season after being picked first. He is 5-0 in 10 starts with a 2.12 ERA.

Skenes will have competition from 35-year-old Chris Sale of Atlanta. In his first season with the Braves, the pitcher has an 11-3 record with a 2.71 ERA.  Overall, the NL pitching staff is very competitive.

American League Lineup and Analysis

  • Bruce Bochy, Texas Rangers

Starters

  • C – Adley Rutschman, Baltimore Orioles
  • 1B – Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Toronto Blue Jays
  • 2B – Jose Altuve, Houston Astros
  • 3B – Jose Ramirez, Cleveland Guardians
  • SS – Gunnar Henderson, Baltimore Orioles
  • OF – Aaron Judge, New York Yankees

  • 3B – Isaac Paredes, Tampa Bay Rays
  • SS – Carlos Correa, Minnesota Twins
  • SS – Bobby Witt Jr., Kansas City Royals
  • OF – Jarren Duran, Boston Red Sox

  • OF – Kyle Tucker, Houston Astros
  • DH – David Fry, Cleveland Guardians

Pitchers

  • Corbin Burnes, Baltimore Orioles
  • Emmanuel Clase, Cleveland Guardians
  • Garrett Crochet, Chicago White Sox
  • Logan Gilbert, Seattle Mariners
  • Clay Holmes, New York Yankees
  • Tanner Houck, Boston Red Sox
  • Seth Lugo, Kansas City Royals
  • Mason Miller, Oakland Athletics
  • Cole Ragans, Kansas City Royals
  • Tarik Skubal, Detroit Tigers
  • Kirby Yates, Texas Rangers

The American League lineup is no group of slouches, either. Judge leads the majors with 32 home runs, and led the American team in All-Star voting. Baltimore SS Gunnar Henderson has hit 27 dingers out of the park. Houston 2B Jose Altuve is making his ninth All-Star appearance, which is tied with Kansas City reserve C Salvador Perez for the most among this year’s All-Stars.

Cleveland 3B Jose Ramirez was named to his sixth All-Star game, and Juan Soto makes his fourth All-Star appearance, but his first as a member of the New York Yankees.

Texas SS Bobby Witt Jr. will get a big ovation from the crowd as the Texan makes his first All-Star appearance. Toronto 1B Vladimir Guerrero gets the start as he looks to add to his resume. He won the All-Star Game MVP in 2021.

On the mound, the starting nod could go to Kansas City’s Seth Lugo. The 34-year-old is making his first All-Star appearance after posting an 11-3 record, and his 2.21 ERA leads the American League.

If the 22-year-old Skenes were to start for the National League, it would be great to have the older Lugo on the other side. However, the American League could look to hold Lugo out until his catcher, Perez, gets into the lineup after Baltimore C Adley Rutschman’s night is over.

Baltimore’s Corbin Burnes, who was the losing pitcher in the 2021 All-Star Game when he was with Milwaukee, and Detroit Tarik Skubal are also strong candidates to start on the mound for the American League.

MLB All-Star Game 2024 Prediction and Betting Pick

An underrated part of this game is the role of the managers. Texas’ Bruce Bochy of the American League, and Arizona’s Torey Lovullo have to make sure everyone gets their time in. However, they also want to win the game. Keep that in mind when considering your MLB All-Star Game predictions.

Bochy is managing in his fifth All-Star Game, while it’s the first for Lovullo. Bochy has the edge interms of experience and is in his home stadium. That’s why I’m giving the edge to the American League at -115 to get back on the winning track. With how close the MLB All-Star Game betting odds are at online sportsbooks, there isn’t a big difference in value. Take the American League as the value pick.

2024 MLB Home Run Derby Winner Odds

Here is a look at the MLB Home Run Derby Winner odds for this year’s event. We have multiple players available for the show.

Will Bobby Witt Jr. Win the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby?

  • Yes: +550
  • No: -1000

Witt Jr. has 15 home runs this season, but the Royals’ SS is more of an all-around player rather than being a pure slugger. He did hit 30 homers last year, so he’s on track to keep last year’s pace. Witt Jr. ranks sixth in the majors in slugging percentage.

Will Gunnar Henderson Win the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby?

  • Yes: +500
  • No: -900

Henderson ranks third in the majors in slugging percentage, and he’s hit 27 homers so far this season. He seems tailor-made for this event, which is why the MLB Home Run Derby odds have him just ahead of Witt Jr. to win.

Will Pete Alonso Win the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby?

  • Yes: +300
  • No: -450

Alonso’s Home Run Derby credentials are solidified. He won twice, in 2019 and 2021 (there was no event in 2020 due to the global pandemic). He has 18 home runs, with a .240 average. Alonso swings for the fences every time he’s at the plate, which bodes well in this event.

Will Alec Bohm Win the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby?

  • Yes: +900
  • No: -2900

Bohm is having a great year for the Phillies, but he has just 11 home runs. He hits for a .270 average, and his 70 RBIs are fourth in the majors. However, those skills don’t translate to the Home Run Derby.

MLB Home Run Derby 2024 Prediction and Betting Pick

I believe this contest will come down to Alonso and Henderson, and I’m leaning towards Alonso’s experience in this event. He has a home-run swing made for the Derby, and at +300, his 2024 Home Run Derby odds offer a lot of value.

I’m betting on the Mets’ veteran, Pete Alonso, to win his third Home Run Derby.

2024 MLB All-Star Game MVP Odds may be the most difficult to examine, as players only have an inning or two to make an impression. For example, let’s discuss last year’s MVP Elias Diaz of Colorado. He had two at-bats, but one of them resulted in a two-run homer in the eighth inning. This gave the National League a 3-2 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Only twice in the last decade as a pitcher won the All-Star MVP award, so we can scratch them off the list. The starters will be gone by the third inning, so they’ll have to swing for the fences right out of the gate.

MLB All-Star Game 2024 MVP Prediction and Betting Pick

The last three All-Star Game MVPs have all hit home runs, so the league is going to reward power. That’s a good MLB betting guide to go by for the All-Star Game.

There are plenty of options to choose from. While I didn’t pick Henderson to win the Home Run Derby, I am taking him to go deep in the All-Star Game and win the MVP award. At +1600, Henderson’s MLB All-Star Game 2024 MVP odds are tasty.

Don’t go too crazy if you follow this pick, though, and only place a small wager since the market is very unpredictable.
