According to the best betting sites, this puts the Lions in a tight position with the Green Bay Packers (+250). The oddsmakers give the main challenger a 28.6% implied chance to finish atop the NFC North standings.

The Chicago Bears (+325) are in the mix, too, with a 23.5% probability! It looks like many people are optimistic about rookie QB Caleb Williams. Let’s see what all teams have to offer.

Detroit Lions (+115)

    • NFC North Position in 2023-24: 1st (12-5)
    • Key Players In:J. Reader (DT), Amik Robertson (CB), Marcus Davenport (LB)
    • Key Players Out: Josh Reynolds (WR), Cameron Sutton (CB), C.J. Gardner-Johnson (S), Halapoulivaati Vaitai (OL)
    • Head Coach: Dan Campbell

The Detroit Lions won their first divisional title since 1993 and first NFC North crown in team history. Under Dan Campbell’s leadership, there has been a tremendous culture change in Detroit.

This is a team that believed in themselves, and it led to an appearance in the NFC Championship. They got ahead early on the San Francisco 49ers, but ultimately dropped a 34-31 loss.

It was still an incredible accomplishment for the Lions. They have high expectations once again this season after inking quarterback Jared Goff to a four-year $212 extension. Detroit’s No. 1 wide receiver, Amon Ra St. Brown, and offensive lineman, Penei Sewell, also saw pay increases on well-deserved extensions.

Cornerback Cameron Sutton and safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson are playing elsewhere next year; however, their arrival in Detroit was long worn out. Defensive lineman D.J. Reader, cornerback Amik Robertson, and edge rusher Marcus Davenport are major contributors when they’re healthy.

If the Lions continue their upward trajectory, they can become a powerhouse. With talented starters on both sides of the ball, the Lions have a chance to show that last season was no fluke! In addition to keeping St. Brown in Detroit, Jameson Williams and tight end Sam LaPorta are set for big years.

At plus odds, the Lions’ 2024-25 NFC North winner odds are well worth a look.

Green Bay Packers (+250)

    • NFC North Position in 2023-24: 2nd (9-8)
    • Key Players In: Josh Jacobs (RB), Xavier McKinney (S)
    • Key Players Out: Aaron Jones (RB), Robert Tonyan (TE)
    • Head Coach: Matt LaFleur

The Green Bay Packers are looking to build on last year’s second-half season momentum and carry it into the 2024-25 campaign. Following a mediocre start, the Packers won six of their last eight games to make the playoffs.

They lost in the Divisional Round to the San Francisco 49ers, 24-21, but the future looks promising. It took the Packers young squad some time to figure it out. When they did, the offense had plenty of chemistry.

Keep in mind that the core of the Packers primarily consisted of young first and second year players. It wasn’t a surprise they needed some time to generate chemistry.

In his first full season under center, quarterback Jordan Love passed for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He grew up quickly alongside young receivers Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs.

The offense should continue to grow, but a lack of depth on the offensive line raises questions. Additionally, one or two injuries in the secondary could put the Packers in a difficult position defensively!

Chicago Bears (+325)

    • NFC North Position in 2023-24: 4th (7-10)
    • Key Players In: Caleb Williams (QB), Keenan Allen (WR), Rome Odunze (WR), D’Andre Swift (RB), Kevin Byard (S)
    • Key Players Out: Justin Fields (QB), Eddie Jackson (S)
    • Head Coach: Matt Eberflus

The Chicago Bears made some drastic changes in the offseason following a fourth-place finish in the NFL North. Quarterback Justin Fields was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick that could turn into a fourth-round pick based on playing time.

After three up and down seasons, the Bears are moving on to a new quarterback. With the No. 1 pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, the front office couldn’t pass on USC’s Caleb Williams. The rookie is expected to be an impact player from the get-go in Chicago.

The Bears drafted Washington’s Rome Odunze with the No. 9 overall selection to give Williams a talented wide receiver to grow and find chemistry with. Additionally, the Bears bolstered the passing-game with former Los Angeles Charger, Keenan Allen.

The defense saw upgrades, too, including safety Kevin Byard to replace Eddie Jackson. If all goes according to plan, the Bears should improve on both sides of the football. However, they are still a couple of years away from being a top contender, so the Bears’ odds to win the NFC North at +325 aren’t appealing.

Minnesota Vikings (+750)

    • NFC North Position in 2023-24: 3rd (7-10)
    • Key Players In: Aaron Jones (RB), Jerry Tillery (DT), Blake Cashman (LB), Sam Darnold (QB)
    • Key Players Out: Kirk Cousins (QB), Alexander Mattison (RB), K.J. Osborn (WR), Marcus Davenport (LB), Anthony Barr (LB)
    • Head Coach: Kevin O’Connell

The Minnesota Vikings will be a team in transition in 2024-25. Improving on their mediocre record of 7-10 will prove to be difficult. Quarterback Kirk Cousins will not be the Vikings’ starter for the first time since the 2018 season.

There were some highs and lows with Cousins as QB1, but he is better than Sam Darnold. In the right environment, Darnold can have a bit of success. He was fine as a fill-in for Brock Purdy in San Francisco, though he doesn’t have that talent around him in Minnesota.

Additionally, running back Alexander Mattison and wide receiver K.J. Osborn have moved on. Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison provide the Vikings with threats in the passing-game. However, Darnold is unlikely to get the ball to them consistently.

The Vikings drafted Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy with the 10th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, but he will play behind Darnold. The youngster has room to develop before taking control of the offense. The Vikings’ 2024-25 NFC North champion odds are not worth the price at +750.

NFC North 2025 Predictions and Best Bet

The NFC North paints an intriguing picture between what I believe is a two-team race between the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers. The Packers’ young core of talented players enters the campaign with more experience, so they should give the Lions a decent fight.

However, concerns over their thin offensive line are too hard to ignore. Meanwhile, Sewell and the Lions’ offensive line will continue to carve out running lanes and provide time for Goff to throw. As long as the QB has time in the pocket, he is one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the NFL.

The Lions provide Goff with the stability that he needs to produce. I don’t foresee them regressing considering their offseason moves and lack of key departures.

For my predictions for NFC North football, I expect the Lions edge out the Packers by one game to repeat as divisional champs. Look at backing the Lions to emerge victorious at +115 odds!
