Heading into the final week of the regular season, the 2024-25 NFL Coach of the Year odds suggest one man is in the clear to win the award! However, is there an upset candidate who should be on your radar ahead of the playoffs?

NFL Coach of the Year Odds for 2024–25

Minnesota Vikings’ head coach Kevin O’Connell (-1200) is the odds-on favorite to win NFL Coach of the Year. As a massive -1200 favorite, O’Connell has a 92.3% implied probability of winning top head coaching honors.
This represents a massive shift from earlier odds for NFL Coach of the Year. Heading into Week 15, Dan Campbell was a -160 favorite to win the award.
Currently, the Lions’ head coach is +500 at NFL betting sites, which equates to a 16.7% chance of winning. Aside from O’Connell and Campbell, there isn’t another coach with much of a chance. The Chiefs’ Andy Reid (+2200) has the third-shortest price but is well out of the race. There are only two realistic options to win at this point in the season!
NFL Coach of the Year 2024–25 Main Favorites
As I mentioned, we are down to a two-coach race for NFL Coach of the Year. And, if you believe that the current odds of winning NFL Coach of the Year are correct, there is just one true contender left on the board!
Before we dive into our NFL Coach of the Year predictions, here is an analysis of the leading favorites to capture the award for the 2024-25 season:
Kevin O’Connell (-1200)
O’Connell had the second-shortest odds to win NFL Coach of the Year at +300 in our last update. However, since the end of November, O’Connell and his Vikings have been on a monster roll! They’ve won nine consecutive games, with their last loss on Oct. 24.
Tom Brady’s former backup has led the Vikings to a record of 14-2. This is after the Vikings went 7-10 a season ago, and pivoted to QB Sam Darnold under center this season. Rookie QB J.J. McCarthy was in a training camp battle with Darnold for the starting role, but a season-ending knee injury handed the job to the former Jet.
The Vikings’ pre-season regular season win total was just 6.5 games! O’Connell and his men have exceeded their initial expectations by a staggering amount. This is why he has -1400 odds to win his first NFL Coach of the Year award.

There are other deserving coaches, but no other bench boss has taken a team with such low pre-season projections to a title contender this season. When it was announced that Darnold was the starter, the Vikings’ Super Bowl odds weren’t impressed by the move.
However, currently, the Vikings have the sixth-best price to win the Super Bowl after opening at +8000 before the season! The shift from +8000 to +800 on offshore sportsbooks is worth giving O’Connell plenty of attention for NFL Coach of the Year.
Dan Campbell (+500)
As the Lions close out a fantastic season, their boisterous head coach is in contention for NFL Coach of the Year. Last season, Campbell was in the mix but lost to Browns’ head coach Kevin Stefanski, which feels like it was a lifetime ago now.
He was in the driver’s seat a month ago with a price of -160 at sports betting sites, but O’Connell hasn’t missed a beat. Despite a record of 14-2 and already with a win over the Vikings, Campbell isn’t favored to oust O’Connell. So, what gives here?
Well, for one, the Lions were expected to be a quality team this season. They entered the year as one of the favorites to go to Super Bowl 59. In short, taking the Lions to 14-2 may be seen as less impressive than what O’Connell has accomplished.
Additionally, the Lions are loaded on both sides of the ball when they are healthy. QB Jared Goff entered this season with high expectations, and a number of weapons to help his cause. The Lions can clinch the NFC North with a win over the Vikings in Week 18. Nevertheless, you have to give Campbell a ton of credit for pushing this team through a huge rash of injuries.

However, the NFL Coach of the Year betting odds suggest it doesn’t matter what happens in the final game of the season. Campbell has his back up against a wall, but he is certainly deserving of some recognition for leading the Lions to a franchise record 14 wins.
Top NFL Coach of the Year Sleepers
Unlike most end-of-season awards, sleepers take home the Coach of the Year award at an alarming rate. That’s because it’s difficult to predict which coaches and teams will have to overcome adversity in the upcoming season.
Long shots for this award are often great value, considering there are only 32 coaches who can potentially win it. Here are some of my favorite COY value bets for the NFL after Week 17:

The Chiefs keep playing mediocre football, by their standards, and yet, here they are at 15-1 and sitting on the #1 seed in the AFC. Much of that has to do with Reid, who always stays even-keeled, and allows Steve Spagnuolo to run the defense how he wants.

The Chiefs have already clinched the AFC West, and they recently booked home-field advantage with a win over the Steelers on Christmas. But when it comes down to crunch time, Reid calls winning plays, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes executes them at a high level.
With the Chiefs getting healthy at the right time, they have a chance to reach peak form in the playoffs. Getting to this point as a one-loss team was only possible due to Reid’s guidance and leadership. Reid to win COY at +2200 is downright disrespectful!
Although it’ll be tough to beat O’Connell and Campbell, Reid is worth a small play at these generous odds.
2024–25 NFL Coach of the Year Prediction and Betting Pick
If the Lions defeat the Vikings in the final game of the regular season, it’s difficult to argue against Campbell. He would have two wins over O’Connell and the Vikings. My vote would be going to the Lions’ head coach; however, I don’t expect most voters to see it the same way.
Winning 14 games with Darnold, who has been viewed as a journeyman bust before this season, is nothing short of remarkable. I will give O’Connell that huge accomplishment for his resume.
Again, the Vikings had a win total of 6.5 games at the start of the season. That’s how I believe the majority of voters will look at this award. The NFL COY odds seem to indicate this much as well. While there’s little value in O’Connell at -1200 for your NFL betting strategy on Coach of the Year, he is by far the most likely winner and the odds are fair!
