NFL Coach of the Year Betting Odds and Predictions

O’Connell has had a glittering start to his head-coaching career. The Vikings entered the regular season with an NFL win total of 6.5 games! They were predicted to finish last in the NFC North, behind the Chicago Bears.

The Vikings are now 5-1 heading into Week 8’s Thursday night road game against the Los Angeles Rams, and O’Connell has played a key role in their success. QB Sam Darnold is undoubtedly responsible for a large part of it, along with WR Justin Jefferson. Defensive coordinator Brian Flores has that unit playing very well. However, O’Connell has this locker room believing in themselves and playing team football.

Furthermore, the Vikings aren’t just beating any teams. Two of their three wins have been against the 49ers, Texans, and the Packers (on the road)! The 49ers entered the season with the second-best odds to win the Super Bowl. They were the favorite to win the NFC Championship again this year.

The Vikings did have to eke out a difficult win against the Jets, and Darnold has come down to earth a little bit. But it wasn’t his fault that the Vikings lost to the Lions. The defense had a bad second quarter as the Lions outscored the Vikings 21-0 in those 15 minutes. Also, the Lions are an excellent football team.

I don’t know if they manage to remain this hot without a cold stretch, so +300 doesn’t offer the best value bet on O’Connell. It doesn’t necessarily mean I don’t believe the coach can’t win, I am simply stating we should be able to get a better price than +300 after a loss. The Vikings aren’t going to go 17-0, so I would hold off on O’Connell’s NFL COY odds right now.

Quinn, the current head coach of the Commanders, has turned the culture around for a Washington team that has been .500 or worse for three straight seasons, and they were 3-13 last year!

It helps that rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has been incredible for the Commanders, who lost their first game of the season to Tampa Bay. Washington is now 5-2 in a row after a 40-7 romp over Carolina. However, the win came at a cost as Daniels was hurt against the Panthers and had to leave the game. Marcus Mariota took over and led the Commanders to a resounding win.

Quinn has obviously had a hand in Daniels’ great start, but this is a team that expects to win every game now, and that starts at the top. Washington also has a very winnable stretch of games coming up. The Commanders host Chicago, then visit the Giants, then there is a home game against Pittsburgh. They could be 8-2 at the end of that stretch! However, the health of Daniels is a concern.

Look for Quinn’s odds to catch up, or eclipse O’Connell’s, if that happens. Right now, Quinn gets the betting edge with a little more value than his Minnesota counterpart.

Andy Reid has won NFL Coach of the Year once, back in 2022 with Philadelphia. He hasn’t won once over Kansas City’s recent period of dominance, which has included a trio of Super Bowl wins! However, Reid will pass up on the award, if it means another Super Bowl win for the Chiefs!

Typically, it’s the Chiefs’ offense that carries the team. But Patrick Mahomes has struggled this season, and the unit has been hit by injuries to WR Rashee Rice and RB Isiah Pacheco. WR Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is out for the season, joining Rice, WR Juju Smith-Schuster is currently out, and WR Xavier Worthy is still a rookie.

And yet, the Chiefs are the only unbeaten team left in the NFL at 6-0 ahead of Week 8’s trip to Las Vegas. That is a testament to Reid, who has instilled a “next man up” mentality with the Chiefs. The defense is also playing lights out football right now. At +700, Reid’s NFL Coach of the Year odds are looking pretty juicy!

Campbell is another coach who is rising in the 2024-2025 NFL Coach of the Year odds at BetOnline! The Lions grabbed the NFC North lead from Minnesota with a 31-29 win on the road, as QB Jared Goff had an excellent game, and the defense made plays when it needed to.

The defense suffered a huge loss as defensive end Aidan Hutchinson suffered a gruesome broken leg in Detroit’s 47-9 rout of Dallas on the road. Hutchinson was leading the NFL in sacks, but the Lions stepped up in his absence as they sacked Minnesota QB Sam Darnold four times.

Campbell is as tough as they come, and he has implanted that mentality into the Lions as a team. You could argue that the Lions deserved to be favored in the Super Bowl 59 odds!

Detroit has tough road games at Houston and Green Bay coming up, but Campbell will have them ready to go, and his NFL Coach of the Year odds deserve a lot of consideration. You might even want to consider the Lions in The Sports Geek’s free NFL pick’em contest to win big prizes.
