NFL Week 5 Betting Odds, Lines, and Best Bets

Four teams are missing from the NFL Week 5 betting odds. The Lions, Chargers, Eagles, and Titans are all on a bye this week, so we have 14 games available for wagering.

I go through the NFL odds for Week 5, exploring the lines of the top NFL betting sites and sharing my best bets. I use Bovada’s odds, similarly to our Beat the Geek contest.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Atlanta Falcons Odds and Best Bets

Kicking off the NFL Week 5 odds is an NFC South matchup on Thursday Night Football. The Falcons host the Saints with the top spot in the division on the line and are 1.5-point favorites at home for this game.

Tampa Bay’s offense returned to dominant form last week after a poor showing in Week 3. Atlanta’s defense is better than Philadelphia’s, but I expect the Buccaneers to have a great day on offense, nonetheless.

The Bucs are listed at +105 to secure the upset, and I believe they will beat the Falcons this week. Here’s a full list of my recommended wagers.

New York Jets vs. Minnesota Vikings Odds and Best Bets

The Jets (2-2) are coming off a disappointing loss at home to the Broncos. New York now must take on the Vikings (4-0), one of the hottest teams in the league. This game kicks off at 9:30 a.m. EDT at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, United Kingdom.

Minnesota has largely dominated teams this season, including the 49ers and the Texans. The Jets, on the other hand, have not lived up to expectations. New York’s 40-year-old quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, was sacked five times against Denver and could be in for another long day this week.

The Vikings defense has 16 sacks, the most in the NFL. I think Minnesota’s defense and rushing attack will travel to London, and the Vikings will cover their 2.5-point spread in a dominant win.

Carolina Panthers vs. Chicago Bears Odds and Best Bets

Next is a game between the two teams linked by their first overall drafted quarterbacks. The Panthers are 3.5-point underdogs in the latest NFL odds for Week 5. Carolina takes on Chicago (-195) at Soldier Field this weekend.

Bryce Young was benched and will not start this game, but Caleb Williams will take the field for Chicago. Williams is a leading Rookie of the Year contender and has improved each week. I expect him to have the best game of his young career and lead the Bears to a win.

Chicago also has one of the top defenses in the league and should keep Andy Dalton and the Panthers’ offense in check. The Bears win and cover in a game that goes over 42.0 points.

Buffalo Bills vs. Houston Texans Odds and Best Bets

One of the closest games in the current Week 5 NFL odds is the showdown between the Bills and the Texans. Both teams are 3-1, and this game could be an AFC Championship preview. Houston is a 1-point favorite at home for this game.

Buffalo was embarrassed by Baltimore on Sunday Night Football in Week 4. The Bills can take out their frustrations on a Texans team that has struggled in recent weeks. Houston was blown out by the Vikings 34-7 and needed a late-game touchdown last week to beat the Jaguars (0-4).

The Bills need this win to right the ship, and Houston is battling injuries, so I expect Buffalo to win a high-scoring game.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Cincinnati Bengals Odds and Best Bets

The Ravens and Bengals were AFC North favorites before the season, but both teams started slow this year. They face off this week, and Baltimore is a 3.0-point road favorite in Cincinnati. Bovada has the point total set at over/under 50.5 in its NFL Football odds for Week 5.

Cincinnati finally won a game last week, but their victory came against the lowly Panthers. Baltimore, on the other hand, blew out the Bills 35-10. If the right Ravens team shows up, this could be another blowout.

Divisional games are usually tight, though. The Ravens might win, but I like the Bengals to keep it close and cover the +3.0-point spread at home.

Indianapolis Colts vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Odds and Best Bets

The Colts were underdogs at home last week, but Indianapolis overcame Anthony Richardson’s hip injury to beat the Steelers. Indy is underdogs in the NFL lines for Week 5 as well. This time, the Colts have to take on their AFC South rivals, the Jaguars (0-4), in Jacksonville.

The team from Florida is winless this season, but the Colts could be the perfect opponent to get the Jaguars their first win. Indianapolis has not won in Jacksonville since 2014. Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson could also be fighting for his job after the team’s poor start.

The Jaguars could win this game at home, but I recommend betting on the Colts’ point spread. Hedging your bet with Indy’s NFL Week 5 spread can protect you in case this is the year the Colts finally break the streak.

Miami Dolphins vs. New England Patriots Odds and Best Bets

Another divisional matchup this weekend pits the Dolphins against the Patriots for last place in the AFC East. Miami is a 1-point underdog on the road, according to Bovada’s NFL spreads for Week 5.

Both teams started 1-0 but have lost three straight games. Miami’s offense has not been able to overcome the loss of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. If their struggles continue this week, they will lose again.

New England’s roster is significantly worse than Miami’s, and Mike McDaniel is one of the best young offensive minds in football. I will trust McDaniel to find a way to manufacture offense this week and beat the Patriots.

Cleveland Browns vs. Washington Commanders Odds and Best Bets

Cleveland and Washington are on the opposite sides of the quarterback spectrum. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels is off to a great season and has led the Commanders to a 3-1 start. The Browns, by contrast, are 1-3, and Deshaun Watson has struggled mightily this year.

Watson has five total touchdowns, three interceptions, and four fumbles this year. He has also been sacked 19 times this year, the most in the league so far. Cleveland’s defense has also not lived up to the hype.

Washington should win this game easily if Daniels continues to play at a high level. I think the Commanders beat the Browns and cover their 3.5-point spread at home.

Las Vegas Raiders vs. Denver Broncos Odds and Best Bets

Two of the three 2-2 teams in the AFC West will face off this weekend as the Raiders take on the Broncos. Denver is a 3.0-point underdog at home the Bovada’s NFL betting lines for Week 5. The Broncos are looking for their third straight win after securing back-to-back road wins against the Buccaneers and the Jets.

Las Vegas also won last week, beating Cleveland 20-16 at home. Denver’s defense has exceeded expectations this year and will be the key to the Broncos securing a win at home.

The Broncos must avoid an emotional letdown as they return home after their huge road wins. I think they will play well enough to win, but I recommend taking the Raiders’ NFL Week 5 line at +3.0.

Arizona Cardinals vs. San Francisco 49ers Odds and Best Bets

A sneaky good NFC West matchup between the Cardinals and the 49ers is also scheduled for this weekend. Injuries have brought the 49ers (2-2) back to the pack this season, and the Cardinals’ (1-3) offense makes them a threat to any team in the NFL.

San Francisco is a 7.5-point favorite at home in the latest NFL Week 5 projections. Even with their injuries, the 49ers should be able to move the ball against Arizona’s defense. The Cardinals have allowed eight rushing touchdowns, tied for the most in the NFL.

Arizona has also allowed five passing touchdowns, so this should be a high-scoring affair. The 49ers will win, but I like the Cardinals to cover their NFL Week 5 lines.

Green Bay Packers vs. LA Rams Odds and Best Bets

The Packers and the Rams both lost in Week 4, but Green Bay is a -175 favorite to get back in the win column this week. LA is a 3.0-point favorite at home this weekend. The Rams have struggled to build a following in LA, so I expect the SoFi Stadium to be packed with cheeseheads on Sunday.

Jordan Love looked as good as Packers fans could hope for in his return from the MCL sprain he suffered in Week 1. Love should be even better this week as he gets closer to 100% and takes on a weak Rams defense.

Matthew Stafford will be without his top weapons again this week, with Puka Nacua on IR and Cooper Kupp already ruled out. I expect the Rams to struggle to move the ball, allowing Green Bay to win and cover as the road favorite.

New York Giants vs. Seattle Seahawks Odds and Best Bets

The Giants and Seahawks will also face off this week, and both teams will be coming off losses in prime time. Seattle is a 6.5-point favorite in the latest 2024 NFL Week 5 betting odds. The Seahawks are also listed as -270 moneyline favorites at home.

New York’s best player is wide receiver Malik Nabers, who is in the midst of a breakout rookie year. Unfortunately for Giants fans, Nabers suffered a concussion in the team’s Week 4 loss to Dallas on TNF. New York has no chance of winning if Nabers is out.

Even if Nabers plays, the Giants have an uphill battle this week. They have to travel across the country to Seattle, and the Seahawks need a bounce back game after their disappointing MNF loss. I like the Seahawks to win and cover their 6.5-point spread in this game.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Odds and Best Bets

Sunday Night Football will feature two of the most popular teams in the NFL as the Cowboys take on the Steelers in Pittsburgh. Dallas is a 2.5-point road underdog in the latest 2024 NFL odds for Week 5 at secure betting sites.

Pittsburgh’s defense struggled in the team’s loss to the Colts last week. They face another tough test this week against Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. Pittsburgh’s offensive line is also beat up, but so is Dallas’s defensive line.

When in doubt, side with the team with the better quarterback. I think the Cowboys will win this game, largely thanks to Lamb’s outstanding performance in prime time.

New Orleans Saints vs. Kansas City Chiefs Odds and Best Bets

Closing out the NFL odds for Week 5, 2024, is a Monday Night Football matchup between the Saints and the Chiefs. Kansas City is a 5.0-point favorite at home against a Saints team that has lost back-to-back games.

New Orleans dominated the first two weeks of the season but has looked like a shell of itself since then. This game could quickly become a blowout if the wrong Saints team shows up in Kansas City. On the other hand, the Chiefs will be without RB Isiah Pacheco and WR Rashee Rice, who are both injured.

This feels like a trap game for the Chiefs, and I think the best move is to bet on the Saints to get the upset win. Given the Chiefs’ lack of weapons, a big game from Alvin Kamara could be enough for New Orleans to upset the defending champions.
