North Carolina is approaching a critical phase for legal mobile sports betting. On Thursday, June 1, the second phase of voting will take place on House Bill 347 .
With House Bill 347 expected to pass without much pushback, mobile sports betting is one step closer to becoming a reality. On Tuesday, two Senate committees passed the legislation to set the stage for a vote in the Senate on Wednesday and Thursday.
On March 29, House Bill 347 passed in the House by a vote of 64-45. In the third reading, 29 Democrats and 35 Republicans voted in favor of the mobile sports betting bill1.
After having success in the House, the Senate began voting on the North Carolina sports betting bill on Wednesday. There was more good news for sports bettors in North Carolina.
In the second reading in the Senate, the bill passed 38-112. What should we expect following a third reading? More good news if you want North Carolina sports gambling online.
There aren’t any concerns with the mobile sports betting bill moving forward. However, gamblers will have to be patient. The bill may not go into effect until next year.
“Sports wagering shall not be authorized in the State until a date identified by the Commission, which shall occur as soon as practicable and may be no later than twelve months after the date this act becomes law”, according to the legislation3.
That being said, there is a large light at the end of the tunnel. Unless there is an unforeseen event that prevents this North Carolina sports betting bill from advancing, there will be legal mobile sports wagering in the Tar Heel State.
How Does House Bill 347 Impact Sports Bettors In North Carolina?
In short, House Bill 347 will allow sports bettors in North Carolina to bet with mobile sports betting operators on their electronic devices.

So this gives us a better opportunity to capitalize on the amount of money that these people are going to make.4”
North Carolina would not be the first state to allow wagering at sporting events. Currently, there are several stadiums that offer sports betting. State Farm Stadium, United Center, Wrigley Field, and FedEx Stadium, among others, accept sports bets5.
