Team USA – Will The USA Make It Look Easy?

According to Team USA’s Olympic medal count odds, they should cruise to the most gold and total medals. Historically, the United States has run through the Summer Olympics.

Team USA leads the all-time Summer Olympics medal count with 2,655 medals since Athens 1896. That number includes 1,070 gold, 841 silver, and 744 bronze. The Soviet Union, which had a heated rivalry with the US, is second with 1,010 medals.

The Americans won at Tokyo 2020, but still had what many would consider a mediocre campaign. They captured 113 medals to finish well ahead of China’s 89. However, 39 gold medals was only one better than China’s 38!

It was a close call, but the U.S. prevailed for their eighth straight Summer Olympics with the most medals won. The Unified (the team of the dissolved Soviet Union) team in 1992 was the last country to win more total medals than the U.S.

Team USA’s dominance was also shaken at Beijing 2008, where they grabbed only 36 golds to China’s 36. Let’s see what the country will offer in Paris to figure out whether a surprise is possible.

Team USA Top Sports At Paris 2024

The United States should continue to exert its dominance in track and field. Noah Lyles is expected to shine for the men’s track team. Grant Holloway is one to watch in the hurdles, while the relay team is projected to perform well.

100m World Champion Sha’Carri Richardson’s redemption tour is expected to go through Paris. She will be a central athlete of Team USA at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

On the gymnastics team, Simone Biles will be another closely watched female athlete, as she looks to enter retirement with a gold. The women’s gymnastics team isn’t the powerhouse it used to be, but they’ll be competitive in the team event.

The United States will find gold in the pool, as well. Canada’s Summer McIntosh is expected to put a dent in Katie Ledecky’s reign, but the Americans should easily take the most golds and medals overall in swimming.

Also, as a heavy favorite to win gold in men’s and women’s basketball, those are two strong opportunities for Team USA. I expect a total of roughly 120 medals, with 40+ of them gold.

Team China – Can The Chinese Rise Above Recent Doping Scandal?

Only two months ahead of Paris 2024, the Chinese swim team is embroiled in a drug scandal involving multiple athletes from the Tokyo 2020 squad. 23 members of the Chinese swim team tested positive for trimetazidine (TMZ).

Roughly half of China’s swim team won medals, including three golds. China has confirmed the reports, though the small amount of TMZ in their system didn’t warrant any punishment. In 2022, three-time Olympic champion weightlifter, Lu Xiaojun tested positive for banned drugs.

Nonetheless, China’s success in the Summer Olympics can’t go unnoticed. Over the last two decades, the United States and China have consistently finished at the top of the medal table.

Overall, the Asian powerhouse has won 900 medals, including 384 golds in Olympic history. At Tokyo 2020, China improved with 38 golds, 12 more than the 26 won in Rio.

Team China Top Sports At Paris 2024

The Chinese diving team will find great success. As usual, the country brings a talented group of divers, who strive for perfection and nothing less. The diving team won a whopping 12 medals, including five golds at Tokyo 2020.

Although China is in the midst of a doping scandal, the swim team is a threat, too. Additionally, I expect the table tennis team to continue to rack up the medals. It won’t be Ma Long, though, as the 35-year-old table tennis legend was left off the roster after winning gold in Tokyo.

Weightlifting is another event to watch the Chinese athletes in after the nation has developed into a weightlifting factory. This year shouldn’t be any different. Where China struggles in the Olympics is in track and field, which includes a large number of events.

I expect a respectable 90 medals or thereabouts for my Olympic 2024 medal predictions for China. However, they should fall well short my Team USA’s estimation for 110 medals.

2024 Olympics Medal Table Predictions and Best Bets

The United States and China will finish No. 1 and No. 2 at Paris 2024. The Summer Olympics 2024 medal table odds appear correct. I expect France to perform well on home soil, but Team USA and Team China are well-equipped with the most talented athletes.

Based on the sheer volume of potential medal winners, the U.S. and China are on a different planet. The American team is expected to feature over 500 athletes, while China will send roughly 400 contestants to Paris 2024.

China’s success at Paris 2024 is fairly predictable, in that they’ll win the events they have a lopsided advantage. Other nations are fighting for the silver and bronze medals in most diving events. Weightlifting, table tennis, gymnastics, and badminton should favor them as well.

However, track and field and swimming should significantly swing in favor of Team USA. The athletics program includes 48 events alone, while swimming will feature 35 events at Paris 2024. That accounts for a quarter of the 2024 Summer Olympic competitions.

Backing the US would generate a modest return, but it’s hard to justify a different bet. The Americans should comfortably clear China in gold and total medals. Even when they didn’t have their best effort at Tokyo 2020, they finished first, so I expect more in Paris.

The Olympic medal count odds for the total honors are too low, but the price for Team US winning the most gold medals still works.
