This Olympic men’s tennis tournament will be played on clay for the first time since Barcelona 1992. This is huge for players like Alcaraz, Sinner, and Nadal, who excel on red courts.
They will challenge the defending champion is Germany’s Alexander Zverev, who will try to join Andy Murray of the United Kingdom as the only back-to-back men’s gold medalists.
This tournament is a single-elimination event, consisting of 64 players. All matches will be played as a best-of-three, with a tiebreak (first to seven points), including the final set. This makes the Olympic tournament more like a Masters event, unlike Grand Slams that are played in five sets.

The problem is that the same applies to other players, but the odds for the Spaniard are way too low.
Novak Djokovic, Serbia (+200)
Djokovic, who will be 37 in May, owns the record for the most men’s Grand Slam wins with 24. Three of those came in 2023, as Djokovic lost to Alcaraz in a five-set final thriller at Wimbledon. At the Olympics, the Serbian great only has a bronze medal from Beijing 2008 on his resume. He lost to Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta in the bronze-medal match at Tokyo 2020.
Djokovic tops the ATP rankings, despite not reaching a final in 2024 yet. He lost to Italy’s Jannik Sinner in the semifinals of the Australian Open, putting an end to his 10-win streak there.
However, the World #1 has also won two of the last three French Opens at Roland Garros, and three overall. Djokovic is excellent on clay and will have extra motivation to win one of the few major trophies that have eluded him.
Jannik Sinner, Italy (+300)
Sinner claimed his first Grand Slam at the 2024 Australian Open, defeating Medvedev in a five-set final. The world’s second-ranked player also won the 2024 Miami Open on a hard surface, beating Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets. The 22-year-old has been on a quick rise as he prepares to make his first Olympic appearance.

However, Sinner has yet to make it past the fourth round at the French Open on clay and lost in the second round in 2023.The best sports betting sites offer only +300 or so for Sinner, which is way too low.
Rafael Nadal, Spain (+500)
Nadal won the gold medal at Beijing 2008 and lost in the semifinals of Rio 2016, missing the 2012 and 2020 Olympic games due to injury. The Spaniard turns 38 in June, so his condition is a massive concern.
Various ailments to his knee and hip have sidelined the all-time great, who is planning to retire at the end of this season. Will he even be healthy enough to compete in Paris? After losing in the third round of the Italian Open, he might skip the French Open.
The big question here is whether Nadal can be even remotely close to his best. The “King of Clay” has won a mind-boggling 14 times in the French Open, so a healthy Rafa is the man to beat on red courts.

You can’t exclude surprises in the men’s Olympic tennis tournament, especially since the format of each match is best-of-three. Here are the underdogs most likely to upset the odds in Paris 2024.

The defending gold medalist is ranked fourth in the world and has a good track record at Roland Garros. Zverev, 27, has reached the semifinals of the last three French Opens. He also has a 3-2 record in finals on clay.

The 25-year-old Tsitsipas has a good record on clay, reaching the French Open final in 2021 before losing to Djokovic. He is 2-2 in clay-court finals in Masters events, and recently won the Monte-Carlo Masters in April.

Ruud, also 25, lost to Tsitsipas in that final in Monte Carlo. However, the Norwegian has reached the last two finals in the French Open, losing to Nadal in 2022, and Djokovic in 2023. My pick is Djokovic, who will be eager to add a gold medal to a glittering career. The Serbian is great on any surface, and the shorter format works in his favor, allowing him to stay fresh for the later rounds.
I also like the odds for Ruud, so I’m combining a pick for a favorite with my favorite sleepers.
