UFC Fight Night Predictions
UFC Fight Night: Hermansson vs. Pyfer could have huge implications for the Top 15 rankings in multiple divisions. The following UFC Fight Night predictions are for this weekend’s main card. You can find the predictions for the preliminary card at the end of this article.
Rodolfo Vieira (-125) vs. Armen Petrosyan (-105)
The main card for this weekend’s fight night event starts with a middleweight fight between Rodolfo Vieira (9-2) and Armen Petrosyan (8-2). BetUS has Vieira (-125) as a slight favorite in this opening bout.
Both of Vieira’s career losses have come in his last four fights. A win this weekend could help him get back on track for a spot in the top 15. Eight of his nine career wins have come via submission, so expect him to rely heavily on his grappling on Saturday.
Petrisyan could not be more different than his opponent this weekend, earning five of his eight wins via KO. He will be at a reach disadvantage, though, which could hinder his striking ability. I think Vieira can use his reach advantage to gain the edge, force the fight to the ground, and earn another submission win.
Darrius Flowers (-110) vs. Michael Johnson (-120)
The next fight on the main card is a battle between veteran fighters coming off a loss. Michael Johnson (21-19) is a slight favorite at -120 for his fight this Saturday against Darrius Flowers (12-6-1). Despite the odds, I think that Flowers (-110) is the better bet for this lightweight fight.
Johnson is just 13-15 in his UFC career, including a 2-6 record since the start of 2019. Flowers, on the other hand, had won four straight fights before losing in his UFC debut last July. After debuting at welterweight, Flowers will move down to 155 for this bout.
Both Johnson and Flowers are strikers, with nine and eight KO wins, respectively. Also, these fights struggled against grapplers. Johnson and Flowers have combined for just three submission wins and 14 submission losses. I think this could be a striking exhibition, with Flowers getting the win via decision.
Johnson is the taller and longer fighter, but I believe Flowers can overcome that disadvantage. In fights that go to a decision, Johnson is 10-7, and Flowers is 3-0. If he can avoid getting knocked out, Flowers should be able to out-point Johnson to get the win.
Gregory Rodrigues (-230) vs. Brad Tavares (+190)
Up next is a middleweight pitting Brad Tavares (20-8) vs. Gregory Rodrigues (14-5). Sports betting sites have Rodrigues (-230) as the favorite heading into this fight.
Both fighters are just 3-2 in their last five fights. However, Tavares has lost two of his last three, and he will be at a height and reach disadvantage on Saturday. He earned a decision win in his last outing, but it was against 39-year-old Chris Weidman.
Tavares has struggled to finish his opponents in the pros, earning just seven finishes in his 20 career wins. Rodrigues has 12 finishes as a pro, including eight KOs and four submissions. He has earned KO wins in three of his last four fights.
I believe Rodrigues will earn another decisive victory this weekend against Tavares. So far, Tavares has four KO losses in his career, and I think his fifth will come Saturday night.
Ihor Potieria (+160) vs. Robert Bryczek (-190)
Another intriguing fight scheduled for this weekend is Ihor Potieria (20-5) vs. Robert Bryczek (17-5) at middleweight. Potieria has lost three of his last four fights heading into this matchup. Bryczek has won five straight and is the -190 favorite for this bout.
Potieria’s recent record does not inspire a lot of confidence. However, he will have a size advantage over Bryczek in this matchup. Potieria is also moving down from 205 to 185 for this fight, which could give him another advantage if his power survives the weight cut.
Prior to his recent slide, Potieria had won 15 straight fights. I think he can get back to his winning ways this weekend after moving down to middleweight.
Bryczek is making his UFC debut and was supposed to face Albert Duraev, but Duraev withdrew. It is hard to project how well Bryczek’s striking skills will translate against the tougher competition in the UFC. With that in mind, I would stick with the relatively seasoned UFC veteran and more well-rounded fighter in Potieria.
Dan Ige (-170) vs. Andre Fili (+140)
The co-main event has the chance to shake up the top 15 in the featherweight division. Dan Ige (17-7) is currently ranked 13th in the division and is scheduled to take on Andre Fili (23-10). These veterans have combined for 36 UFC fights in their careers, and Ige (-170) is the favorite for this fight.
Recent appearances have not been kind to either fighter, though. Five of Ige’s six UFC losses have come in his last eight fights. Likewise, Fili is just 3-4, 1 NC in his last eight appearances in the Octagon.
A loss could knock Ige from the top 15, and it could also put his UFC career in jeopardy. On the bright side, he has never been stopped in his career, with all seven of his career losses coming by decision. I think Ige will do enough to beat Fili this weekend and get his career back on track.
Joe Pyfer (-240) vs. Jack Hermansson (+200)
The main event for this Fight Night card is a middleweight bout between Jack Hermansson (23-8) and Joe Pyfer (12-2). BetUS has Pyfer (-240) as the favorite heading into this fight. Hermansson may be the underdog, but he is also the 10th naked middleweight in the UFC.
With a win on Saturday in Las Vegas, Pyfer, currently 3-0 in the UFC, could break into the top 15. Beating Hermansson will be easier said than done, though. Hermansson has 17 finishes in his pro career, including 10 KOs and seven submission wins.
Pyfer has 11 finishes, including eight KOs and three submission victories. In addition to the experience disadvantage, Pyfer will also be at a reach disadvantage. Hermansson has a 77.5-inch reach, while Pyfer has just a 75-inch reach.
The good news for Pyfer is that Hermansson has been slumping lately, losing four of his last seven fights. Also, two of these losses came by knockout. I believe Pyfer can have similar success with his striking, and get the win this weekend against the more experienced Hermansson.
UFC Fight Night Best Bets
One of the reasons BetUS is so popular with MMA bettors is that it offers great prop wagers for fights. Here are two additional UFC Fight Night predictions based on the latest prop odds.
Michael Johnson vs. Darius Flowers Is Over 1.5 Rounds (-120)
Michael Johnson and Darius Flowers are squaring off at lightweight this weekend. These fighters are both strikers by nature, with a combined 17 KOs in their careers. Ideally, this could be a striking exhibition between two talented veterans.
However, striking matchups have a history of not living up to the hype. If these fighters are too concerned about being knocked out themselves, then this fight could drag on. Johnson specifically is no stranger to judges’ decisions, and has a 10-7 record in fights that go the distance.
BetUS has the over/under for total rounds set at 1.5 rounds for this fight. I would take the over, which is available at -120 payout odds.
Jack Hermansson vs. Joe Pyfer Is Under 2.5 Rounds (-140)
The main event is also a matchup between two talented strikers. Jack Hermansson has 10 KO wins in his career, and Joe Pyfer has eight. Hermansson also has seven submission wins in his career and Pyfer has three.
For better or worse, Pyfer has only gone the distance once in his career. That was back in 2018 in his second professional fight. The over/under for total rounds in this fight is currently listed at 2.5 rounds.
I would take the under on this totals wager. Hermansson has been finished five times in his career, and all those losses came in the first two rounds. Both of Pyfer’s career losses also occurred inside of two rounds.
