You can feel the electricity in the air as we gear up for another showdown between our beloved New York Mets and those pesky Philadelphia Phillies this Sunday at Citizens Bank Park. Now, I don’t want to sound biased here (who am I kidding, of course, I will!), but there’s no love lost between these two teams. Familiarity breeds contempt, and these guys know each other all too well.

The Mets are rolling into this matchup with Luis Severino on the mound. This guy has put together a solid season with an 11-7 record and a 4.1 ERA – not too shabby! With nearly 9 strikeouts per game under his belt, you can bet he’s going to come out swinging (pun intended). But let’s be real; while he’s shown flashes of brilliance, he can be hit-or-miss on any given day.

On the flip side, Cristopher Sanchez takes the hill for the Phillies. His stats show an 11-9 record with a tidy 3.9 ERA and just over 8 strikeouts per game – not bad at all! The lefty is crafty on the mound and if he gets in a groove early on, it could spell trouble for our boys in blue and orange.

Now when you look at both lineups, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. The Mets average around 4.7 runs per game with a batting average hovering just below .240. Meanwhile, those Phillies have been putting up about 4.8 runs per game with slightly better numbers across the board offensively—hitting .251 as a team.

Historically speaking though? You have to take recent games into account! The Mets recently handed the Phillies a solid beating with a 6-2 win in their last outing against them – so maybe we hold onto that lucky jersey for good luck today? On top of that, let’s not forget that New York is riding high having gone 5-2 straight up in their last seven games!

But here’s where things get spicy: oddsmakers have set Philadelphia as favorites (-155) and opened this contest’s total at just 7.5 runs – seems like they’re expecting some close action here! Given how both teams have seen several overs lately (the last matchup ended with an OVER), I’m tempted to agree that we could see some fireworks offensively but honestly? I think today might favor an UNDER scenario especially considering Severino needs to step up against Philly’s lineup while Sanchez likely keeps us guessing.

So what do I predict? Well folks, I’m taking my favorite team for the win today—Mets all day—but don’t count out those pesky Phillies from giving us quite a show! Let’s hope for great pitching performances along with some clutch hitting as my eyes stay glued to every pitch from my living room decked out in navy blue and orange! Go Mets!!
